Good food, great casual atmosphere and maybe I just always go in at the right times but it’s never packed or too loud– I haven’t found anywhere else like this in Lewiston or auburn

Great place for lunch! The food is prepared after you order so be sure to give enough time. The chicken salad was awesome and I recommend the multigrain bread. Out of the way but definitely worth finding!

Yum! Delicious gluten free chicken walnut salad sandwich with real sized bread, not the typical tiny gf bread, and really yummy! Also had the super food salad, not quite as flavorful but cool mashed sweet potatoes instead of diced. And awesome friendly staff! I can imagine this would be a fun place to catch some live music — great vibe. Wish this place existed where I live!

Fiesta bowl was a great find, add the chicken for a little extra kick. Burrito was def well done but lacked flavor, salt and pepper no where to be found. The house red wine was pretty bad, stick to the local beers…

I think there burritos, quesadillas, and desserts are absolutely fabulous. The pulled pork burrito is by far the best, and although you have to wait a long time and pay for guacamole and jalapeños(hence the 4 stars) its still the place I bring my friends and family to. Plus, they support local artists!

Ate here for lunch. The food was pretty bland all around. Everyone in my group made the same comment. I’ll check out somewhere else before I return. Friendly staff, clean, casual atmosphere.

It is times like this that I am wishing Unilocal offered a negative star. Call me old fashioned, but I am really put off by crappy service or is the case in so many new restaurants, no service. Who ever decided it was a good idea to eliminate waiters and have the diners stand in line to order at a counter should be taken out and shot. OK, maybe this behaviour is acceptable to stand in line for a burger and fries, but a place like this I would hope to offer more. Setting my bias aside, there was a pervasive lack of care throughout the whole enterprise which extended from the dismal over priced food to the counter help who seemed to be afraid of expending any extra calories in the exercise of their duties. I had some form of sandwich which was billed as a grilled Panini with chicken, roasted pepper, tomato, swiss and secret chipotle sauce. After having stood in line to order, my sandwich arrived and was placed in front of me. The presentation looked like something from an inner city school lunch program struggling to maintain their budget. The sandwich was plopped on the plate with low budget potato chips(not home made, or interesting in any way) and a pickle. The pickle was actually the best part of the meal. The sandwich was first and foremost, undercooked. The all important grill marks on the bread were near invisible. Inside, there was as the listed items, but the roasted pepper was barely sauteed, served with the skin on, and the pleasing crisp crunch of a fresh pepper when you bit into it — not roasted at all, not even close, sorry, terrible. The«chicken» was a Buddig like product, of which, 3 paper thin slices had somehow been squeezed in under the cheese. Maybe I could forgive all of the above and write it off to the dismal palate that afflicts so much of the great white north, but the secret chipotle sauce was a disaster. I have no idea what they thought they were creating but as near as I can tell it was ketchup mixed with way too much chipotle. The flavor was reminiscent of ketchup but more alarming, was so hot as to make the whole sandwich nearly inedible. I am not a pussy about hot foods either. I lived in California for twenty years and cut my teeth on some very hot Thai and Mexican, this was beyond those without any of the culinary flair. I really want to send a copy of this to Arlo and suggest he file suit against them for slander, producing anything this bad and using his name to market it all. Anyway, this one will not get a second visit. ,

Fresh food. Nice people. I’d come back again! Try the Grieves burrito or the pineapple chili… Really good!!!

I love the people that work there, but its a bit pricey for what the food was for me. They do have Gluten Free.

I like the idea of Guthries, but the reality is disappointing. Everything I’ve tried on the menu is bland and boring. The salsa is like tomato sauce. They are going for a hipster chic atmosphere, but it too falls flat. It isn’t a bad place for a small– venue performance, the beverage options are decent.

Eclectic, Delicious, Hidden away all come to mind after a first visit here with a Bates resident. Great menu full of burritos, quesadillas, and paninis! We tried a BBQ chicken quesadilla and a turkey/avocado/provolone/pesto panini. Both slowed down conversation as we were enjoying our food. If you love Coffee by Design, you can get it here. Cool ambiance. An area with large leather stuffed seating, a group of picnic benches to hold a large crowd, and smaller 4 tops and 2 tops. No waitress service, but it really wasn’t missed.

Okay, maybe we came on an off night last time. Tried again this summer on another Friday. There was a band. advertised and they performed as scheduled. Food was still just okay but there was a marked improvement in service which always seems to improve the value of any meal. The only thing I did not appreciate was that during our meal we were directly solicited to make a donation for the band by a young man going table to table with a jar. Something about having to reach into my pocket while I’m eating just seemed wrong. I would have gladly dropped a few dollars in the jar after eating had they just made an announcement. Anyway, the band, Backwoods Road, was great and will probably warrant a return visit.

Ate here while on business in the area, had good review so I thought I’d give it a shot. Turns out it is an amateur run restaurant catering to hipsters. The food was sub-par with the burritos and salsa having no noticeable taste or characteristics. I asked about their beer selection, and the waitress said she doesn’t drink it and knows nothing about the beers they carry. I understand if someone doesn’t eat/drink certain items, but if you’re selling a product you should at least know something about it!

One of my area favorites! Comfortable for a quiet lunch reading or working, great for client lunches or meeting friends. Guthrie’s bases it food on locally sourced ingredients, freshly cooked in a comfortable and friendly atmosphere. Sweet potato quesadilla and burritos are my comfort food! I have heard raves on the chicken salad and pulled pork from dining companions as well. Salads are large and filling as well. So far I haven’t found anything not to like! Some days the lunch hour can get busy, if you are in a hurry it is best to call ahead!

Not as flavorful as I hoped. Even though the burrito was hefty in size, I just didn’t feel like the flavor was anywhere to be found. I added tons of their homemade hot sauce(which was not that hot at all) to try to kick it up a notch. My fiancé said his pulled pork burrito was ok but nothing he would order again. Their salsa unfortunately tasted like watery tomatoes. Very sad since the colorful chips were pretty decent. I was really looking forward to this since I had been told to come here years ago. Maybe I missed the flavor train on this place.

Great lunch spot. The food is good and well priced, especially for the quantity. I’ve always ended up taking half my quesadilla home. It’s never been crowded while I’ve been there, but we went for late lunches. It takes a bit of time for the food to come out so not the best place if you’re in a hurry, but definitely a place to go if you want a quality lunch and perhaps a pint of local beer to go with it.

I have been to Guthries many times. It has always been very good, and as a vegan it is one of the few places in the Lewiston area where I feel comfortable eating. I love the atmosphere here. It just feels right for a break from an office type setting to step into for lunch and relax. Prices are very reasonable and the portions are ideal. The menu is fun and has many great options. Best of all, it’s healthy eating. If you’ve had enough of all the grease that permeates a lot of eateries in the area, definitely give Guthries a chance if you haven’t yet.

On our way to Quebec via 201, our bellies started growling and we knew it was about time to find a lunch spot. I pulled up my trusty Unilocal app, and immediately homed in on Guthrie’s. It was dead quiet when we wound our way through downtown Lewiston and similarly quiet when we entered the restaurant. There were two tables of patrons, which initially gave me pause, but I was wooed by the three very welcoming staff members and the decidedly Santa Cruz, CA/college town vibe of the place. Lots of dark wood, local beers, chalkboards advertising their«micro-cinema» Maine-related film series, and the Cure playing on the sound system. My husband ordered the oft-mentioned sweet potato burrito while I opted for the chicken salad sandwich. We split our plates so that we could sample both. His burrito was good, although it suffered from hasty burrito-making as indicated by the clumps of cheese in one bite followed by beans in another and sweet potato in the third bite. The salsa they paired with it was incredibly mild(we’re not in Texas anymore!) but bright and fresh-tasting. My chicken salad with cranberries was delicious. It was served on a local bakery’s multi-grain bread that was lightly toasted. Yum… I could go for another sammie right about now. If I ever find myself taking the looong way to Quebec City again, I would return to Guthrie’s for a healthy meal, fresh ingredients, a cozy, casual vibe, and friendly service. It certainly beats the fast food regret that can befall you on a road trip after a stop at DQ makes you question both your judgment and digestive abilities.

I have had pretty good experiences with a few of the items on the menu(repeater is good), but I have never felt more grossed out and ripped off by a to-go meal as I was recently when I ordered the«Fiesta Bowl“with BBQ chicken. For $ 10(actually a bit more including tip), I got a pallid, dry lump of shredded«BBQ» chicken that was cold to the touch, smelled like it had been sitting around for ages, and did not taste barbeque-y at all. The smell from the package was comparable to fish. I was taken aback. There was also a small pile of unremarkable black beans which didn’t have much(if any) flavor, a small pile of rice, a handful of uncooked baby spinach, and a small handful of coarsely chopped, poorly prepped(inconsistently sized) red and yellow peppers. I asked to substitute potato chips for the tortilla chips advertised on the menu, and was given a miniscule booby prize of an Utz’s bag. I am not at all a picky eater, and I had to throw away what was left after the first few bites. I had ordered later into the evening, and the joint had closed by the time that I got out of the gym, but I was so appalled by this item that I took it home to put it in the refrigerator in order to take back to the restaurant the next day. Sadly, someone in my household threw it out. It really was that bad. It’s a total shame because I’ve had relatively good experiences here, but as a restaurant that prides itself on being a bastion of good eating in a location that is sorely lacking, this seemed totally inexcusable to me. I ordered this dish ages ago, and I’m still grossed out enough that I have not been back having had many opportunities to do so.

They say never start a marketing premise with a negative, but in this case She Doesn’t Like Guthries catches your attention, as will the restaurant itself. It’s a funky kitschy 60s throwback with découpage-clad picnic tables, Woodstock-worthy wood paneling, a few folk albums and some music kitsch on the walls are all part of its charm. The food is excellent, a mix of mexican, sandwiches, vegetarian and vegan. The shredded pork burrito will go mano-a-mano with the sweet potato burrito. They also have great local brew sodas and beers, including a blueberry soda that was amazing. The service is super friendly, and parking is not too bad outside with street and big lots nearby. One of the Unilocal-worthy quirky fun eateries that you Unilocalers traveling here and there crave, and a cool place on Fridays I hear for locals, when they have live music. Oh? The story… The owners were trying to figure out the name. He liked Guthries. She didn’t. The rest is history…
