Wow! We went yesterday and had a wonderful breakfast. All gluten free. All spectacular. We had muffins and the monte christo. Drank mint water and delicious coffee. Then brought home Marie’s cookies. So tasty! I wish it were open today… Thank you Sweet Marie!!!

Lihue doesn’t have many good breakfast places(tho I did find another one up the road in Kapaa that I reviewed separately). A friend recommended Sweet Marie’s to me and I’m so glad he did. She’s only open Sat/Sun currently because she co-shares the location with another business open M-F but she’s looking for another locale in order to be open additional days(and I hope she does!). Don’t expect fancy — it’s a smallish seating area with 4 covered tables as well as a few more that aren’t covered but I found it perfectly charming. The menu changes constantly and, as she described it, «I go in my kitchen and cook — I never know what I’m going to make until I plan out the menu but I promise it’ll be good» and, my God, it sure was! Everything is gluten free, btw, as Marie has worked for years perfecting celiac-friendly fare since finding out many years back she is affected as well. The muffins(I had blueberry) were to die for — very moist, flavorful and loaded with fruit. Not the typical doorstops you find in a lot of gluten-free or vegan bakeries. I also had the breakfast sandwich with eggs and bacon but she can also make these without meat. There were other vegan-approved menu items so you should find sims thing you like. Note: if you’re a fussy eater, expect a line cook operation or aren’t comfortable«winging it» with a limited menu that changes daily, this may not be for you. You might be better served eating at your hotel but, if that’s you, why are you traveling if not to experience the local sights/eats/people?!? Beyond the food, I love Marie. She sits down with you, chit chats, goes in the kitchen and mutters while she cooks and at the same time carries in a full conversation with you. It was like being in my Mom’s kitchen and that was a welcome treat considering I was so far from home. Keep up the awesome work, Marie — love, love, love this place!!!

Was looking for a café and stumbled upon this place. Came here for coffee and was disappointed because they sold out by 3 pm. However, the cookies and muffins are delicious. Also, owner was sweet and friendly as well.

Read and heard nothing but rave reviews about this place. Tried to go on Sunday: closed. Tried Monday, closed. Looked them up on Tuesday thinking«THIS is the day I am finally going to have something GF and yummy» and because they were right next door to our Back country tubing experience. Couldn’t find anything at the stated address. Finally called and were told they were closed indefinitely. WOW! Ok take down your marketing! Very frustrated and disappointed.

Sweet Marie herself is amazing, her food is amazing, thus everything that comes from her kitchen is amazing! She takes the time in each of her dishes to make them oustanding. Her muffins, pizza, and other menu items are any celiac’s dream. No chance of cross contamination here! She is a celiac herself and only uses GF ingredients.

I was really looking forward to trying this place as I eat gluten free. However, I was sadly disappointed. I called to find out what their hours were for the day and when the woman answered on the phone she said,” who’s this?” I thought that was extremely unprofessional as I was just calling to check the hours. Besides the weird customer service their store front is beyond unappealing. It is dark with random muffins, cookies, and different meals written on a chalkboard. Nonetheless, the muffin we did get was really good. This business just needs a lot of help in the other areas.

Best gluten free place in Kauai!!! I stumbled across Sweet Marie’s on a visit 3 yrs ago and have been continually impressed with the food and delightful, generous, and down-to-earth personality of Sweet Marie each time I visit. Fear no cross contamination here. Everything is 100% gluten free with many dairy and soy free options as well… not to mention the decadent, melt in your mouth pastries! Kauai, you truly posses an island gem here! :)

New location, but same great products! Best muffins and cookies on the island in my opinion and they’re gluten free. Dairy free also available.

We have bought bakery items from Marie’s shop for years in three locations. Her food is terrific, we have never been disappointed and I recommend this bakery highly. My husband is Gluten intolerant and her cooking suits him very well as well as the rest of us who are not. We shared some with family last night and they could not believe it was Gluten Free because it tasted so good.
