This Credit Union has been really easy to work with for the past year of my auto loan and now that I think about it, must be because I haven’t had to deal with anyone there. The mobile app is a complete joke. Not only is it super slow, but you can’t do half of the things you need to do online using the app. You have to get on an actual computer because their site isn’t optimized for a mobile platform then enter your username and password; I don’t remember those anymore, my apps remember it for me. I had set up direct deposit to make my car payment trough my bank every month and that has been fine for 11 months now. This month I changed banks and needed to change that direct deposit. I called the credit union for help and the girl was very helpful it seemed. She gave me all the answers that I wanted to hear, unfortunately, she was WRONG. She didn’t tell me all the steps up front so I didn’t have everything I needed to get the new direct deposit set up. That was fine. I decided to just make a one time payment online, and set things up later in the month since the payment was due that weekend. I ask the girl to stop the payment on my old bank account because the money wouldn’t be there to pay. She said she would and then confirmed that they would not debit that account. As I said I would, I made the payment online but later got a letter in the mail from my old bank that I was overdraft. They had Charged the car payment after assuring me they would not. AFCU got paid twice. By the time I was alerted by mail of the overdraft, there was already an extra fee of $ 25 for being overdraft for a full week. The fees totaled $ 61 and that was all because AFCU pulled money when the assured me they wouldn’t. I call my bank as soon as I find that because AFCU isn’t open on the weekends and is only open 8 – 5 central. I am in pacific time and have a job myself, so those hours don’t work for me. I had to call on my lunch break to get this fixed. After not receiving a return call the message I left with the girl that had told me wrong originally, I decided I needed a new rep. That’s when I met Alex. He was very knowledgeable and let me know the real deal. It made sense to me that they don’t process the stop payments for a few days, but that is information the first girl should have known. He agreed and did what he could to fix things. He even called the next day to let me know things were taken care of. Since I am tech savvy myself, I was a step ahead of him anyway. So to give him another chance, I decided to ask him about this«Skip a Payment» offer. It allows me to push my December payment to the end of my loan period. Cool right?! Alex would not accept my paperwork via email and insisted that I put a stamp on the thing and use the USPS. I HATETHEUSPS. Because he insisted on me using snail mail, my paperwork was going to arrive a day after the deadline. He was unaware that there was a deadline and once I read him the piece of paper that he had sent me, he again assured me verbally everything would be fine. This time you can imagine, I took that with a grain of salt. He assured me once more I didn’t need a second opinion, and he would mark me on his calendar to give me a call when he got my paperwork. Believe it or not, I forgot about it until today, four days after Alex promised he’d call. He knew me when I got him on the phone and was very respectful. He let me know he got my paperwork. He let me know he had tried calling me but it went straight to voice mail… Very strange Alex since I NEVER turn off my phone! I know the tricks people use when the make phone calls everyday and I know that one well. Alex forgot to call me and lied about it. If you had really gotten my voice mail, then why didn’t you leave me a voice mail? You left me a voice mail last time I didn’t answer, but coincidentally this time, my phone mysteriously went strait to voice mail and he for whatever reason didn’t want to leave a message… Very suspect. I got an awesome rate on my car payment and that’s why I went with two stars instead of one but I can say confidently, I would not recommend AFCU to anyone that I know either on the West Coast or in Arkansas. They are very friendly, but being friendly doesn’t get things done and this whole thing was a huge headache.
