Ashlee is great with hair! I’m so happy to have found her. My cut and color turn out great each time.

MJ is fabulous! Not only does she care about your hair, but she cares about you as well! She goes above and beyond to make sure all my needs are met and make sure I’m happy. She is so sweet and truly makes me enjoy getting my hair done! She is also extremely talented and gives me many tips and ideas to try with my curly hair. She is obviously very educated and makes me feel like my hair is in the BEST hands possible. Thank you, MJ!

I have to give a Shout Out to my stylist, Ashlee. I originally found her because I needed someone to fix my patchy ombré color which was starting to look terrible because my last lady rushed the color process. If you have thick Asian hair like me, you know this is a BAD IDEA!
Ashlee was able to fix my color for a reasonable price and made me feel like a pretty pretty princess!!! Recently, I waited a little too long between cuts and needed a trim off my split ends and something to lighten the weight so I could have more flirty curls. This is how she did! (See photos)
I cannot recommend Ashlee enough. She charged $ 50 for a dry cut and style. Please note that prices are subject to change. (And don’t forget to tip people!)
One con (really pulling at straws here): block parking is limited. So bring wear shoes you don’t mind walking a block or 2 in.

Love this place. I have been going to Karell for 11+ years now and have never left unhappy. I highly recommend Chantilly Lace.

I like this place! I went in this morning and MJ squeezed me in for a trim. Everyone who works here is nice and friendly and do a great job. It’s right downtown, and they offer you coffee as a bonus! Very warm inviting place.

This has taken me a little while to write this review because I was waiting to see if I got a phone call from this place to receive an apology which I never got. So here goes. I decided I’d try this place out based solely on Unilocal reviews. This place sounded awesome so I figured I’d give it a try. I called and left a voicemail on a Monday and within a couple of hours MJ called me back and made me an appt with her for that Thursday, the day before I had a HUGE interview. I hadn’t had my hair cut in over 7 months and I needed it bad! I told her I had to be to work in San Jose by 11 so she said she’d even come in at 9, an hour earlier than normal, just so she could fit me in in time. So I get there at 9. 9:15 rolls around and no one has even bothered to ask me if I need help. My hair isn’t washed or anything since I planned on getting it done. So finally I go up to one of the other workers and ask where MJ was and says she doesn’t work until 10. So I tell her what’s going on and she calls MJ to see where she is. She gets off the phone and said that MJ thought it was next Thursday and can’t get a ride into work. Wtf!!! I was so pissed off. I had no time to run home to take a shower and do my hair. And the worst part is, I never even got a call from MJ to apologize for the miscommunication. If I had gotten a call from her I would’ve been fine and I this review would’ve been 4 stars higher. Common courtesy isn’t a concern with her.

I recently got my hair highlighted and cut by Mary Jane Newman and i love it! I got stopped by a stranger at the grocery store and she asked me who did my hair. Then a few days later the women at my Dr’s office said my haircut was the cutest one they’ve seen on me in the 5 years I’ve been going there and I’ve had some cute ones! Mary Jane is very personable, fast and knows what she’s doing! She’s amazing!

I called and made an appointment with Brittany as I was attending a wedding in Livermore. First time customer, I got there and explained what I wanted… down and curly as you see in some of the other pics. I said my hair doesn’t hold a curl that well and we decided to go with tighter curls. I was turned to look out the window and was pretty much chatting away, then Brittany turned me to face the mirror and started teasing my hair. When the teasing was done she went right back to the curling iron to perfect her work. When she was done and handed me the mirror to check out my do, I gasped because MY HAIR NEVER LOOKED SO GOOD!!! I felt so beautiful and done up and am so upset I didn’t take pictures as I was in such a rush. My hair style lasted the ENTIRE evening and even woke up with my hair still looking fab!!! I didn’t even want to wash it and felt ready for another party!
Brittany was super nice and professional and I will be booking with her from now on for ALL of my events! This is saying a lot because I live in Walnut Creek and the salon is in Livermore.

— I was assigned to MJ. She was a very sweet woman who took time to ask a lot of questions. I enjoyed the conversation as well. She seems to have a kind soul, very comforting. I think someone wrote, she’s like an aunt, sister, mother, etc. I completely agree.
— She washed, cut, applied products, blow dried and somewhat styled for I think $ 55.
— I had to knock a star for the price and lack of communication as I had called in and asked pricing and details prior to booking. Still completely reasonable but I was told less and I specifically went in without washing and said I did not want a wash prior to cutting because I was looking for a hair cut with a razor (which my usual stylist does on day old hair simply misting the ends to better avoid the split ends that come with the razor technique). I now know the Stylists are independent. I did not speak to MJ when I booked so I didn’t hold it against her. I didn’t tell her about the razor preference as I wanted her to use the tool she preferred and she seemed to know what she was doing. I have plenty of hair to play with and it grows fast — no biggie. I’d rate her, a five and I will come back in for small jobs.

So disappointed that the quality of the haircut wasn’t up to par. I was looking forward to having the same excellent cut that I got the first time from the same stylist but didn’t get it.
When I made the appointment, I specifically asked for the price of a plain cut… no styling, shampoo or whatnot. I plan to go home and wash my hair right away so I figured I could save a bit if I opt out of the styling extra. I confirmed the same thing before the haircut. Even before she even held a blowdryer to style my hair, I already said I don’t need it and she said it’s just so she can see the cut better. I was surprised when I got charged the full amount. She said that blowdrying was extra.
Anyway, I’ll look for another salon. I don’t like inconsistency with both the pricing and styling.

When I first moved to Livermore I called several salons. I had to leave a voicemail message at most places and they didn’t even call back!
I happened to call Chantilly Lace and they answered and to my surprise they took walk-​ins.
I showed up and Brittany helped me out. She did a great job and cut my hair exactly how I asked.
The next time I showed up, it was a NYE emergency. MJ took me last minute and was so patient and thoughtful, my hair turned out great.
I went again earlier this month and decided I wanted a shorter haircut and without much more direction MJ gave me the cutest haircut I’ve ever had.
Every experience I’ve had at Chantilly Lace has been stellar, from the easy parking to the cute décor, this place is awesome. Everyone is so nice and the stylists are true artist.

I was so impressed with Ashlee and my visit to this salon. She did an amazing job with only a description of what I wanted. She also gave me the LocalGruv price she was offering to new clients. I left the salon feeling awesome about my new cut. Thank you!

Second hand boyfriend review. My girlfriend’s hair looked amazing and she was happy happy happy. She looked like a movie star and was beaming walking out. This is all I can hope for.

My schedule is always unpredictable, so booking in advance is almost impossible for me. When my usual stylist at another salon was unavailable for a haircut, I came to Chantilly Lace as a last minute decision. I live down the road and I’ve seen it in passing. The Unilocal reviews seemed unanimously positive, so I thought it was worth a shot.
I called up and spoke with Karell, the owner, who was free to take me the next afternoon for a haircut. Even when I was a little late coming in due to a previous Dr. appointment, she was very sweet and understanding about it, still taking me when I arrived 10 – 15 minutes after I was scheduled (much appreciated). My request wasn’t very extreme. Just wanted to get a good 2″ or so off my ends and add layers. Even though it was «simple», Karell did a great job! I’ve gotten a bunch of compliments on my cut in the last few days. It was a little expensive to me… but since it turned out well, I suppose it was worth it.
The salon is very cute and it feels comfortable and airy. I would recommend giving this salon a try if you’re in the market.

I had the same hairstylist for the last 5 years, then I moved to California. Few people can do red like my ABQ Markie so I held out a whole year thinking I was going to go fly 800miles to get my hair done and that never happened. What I had was hair down to my waist with about 6 inches of natural color faded into brassy red tones. Hideous… I know.
I decided to take a chance on Chantilly Lace because that place is so cute! That and I couldn’t walk out with worse hair than what I came in with. So I called asking for someone who could give me «grown out of my own head red» not fashion red, not Rihanna red, not crazy little old lady red. I booked with Heather and I couldn’t be happier with my color. I am also relieved that I book with her in the future based on how my hair cut and color turned out.
Another thing I liked is her station. My hair takes a while because its long and thick. I love myself but sitting in front of a mirror for hours with noting else to look at but my own face is boring! Her station is by the window and I got to look out and see lively downtown Livermore.

I get my hair done there regularly and M.J. is my stylist. Let it be known now, she is the only one there to go see. Whatever I am looking for, she finds it, whatever problem I have, she fixes it. She is the bomb and dont let anyone else tell you different.

Thanks to my original review I see that my last hair cut was all the way back in September. Scraggly hair once again, I returned to Chantilly Lace.
This time I sat in the chair of the absolutely adorable Ashlee DeOcampo. She snipped like a pro, was lots of fun to chat with and even blew my hair out for free.
I highly recommend!
