I go here all the time! whatever you get here is so good! they have the best rice around! the portions are good for decent prices! the staff is always so friendly! you have to try the fried ice cream when you go because it is out of this world! its a small place so it gets packed fast but its worth the wait!

I love old Mexico. Not a fancy place, and it is usually busy. It is a very reasonable priced Mexican food place. Big portions, and very cheesy. I would call it filling food. Just a small place on the eastern end of Livonia. Sometimes quite crowded. I love the Chimichanga’s

I tried this place out because it had a three star rating… Livonia you do not know what Mexican food is. Went for lunch got seated right away. The one star rating goes to the nice girl who waited on me awesome job. I got the chicken combo which was a chicken enchilada, chicken tostada and a chicken taco. The food must have came out literally 5 minutes after I ordered so I knew it wasn’t gonna be that good. The chicken was dry and crusty, beans were out of a can it tasted like… I couldn’t finish it, it was that bad. I doused a ton of Bottled hot sauce on everything. Chips and salsa were just as bad, burnt with no flavor. Sorry won’t be back

I was so excited that I got to go to Old Mexico, today. I used to live two blocks away years ago from this restaurant and always enjoyed this place in the past. My visit today however was not up to par. I don’t know if my palate has changed or if they’ve changed owners or chefs, but it was not good sadly. I ordered chicken enchilada suizas and it was not good. The chicken tasted very sweet. The beans hard with yucky cheese, the rice hard, way over seasoned. The chips homemade but too thick and the salsa flat and uninspiring. My family however enjoyed their meal, both ordered ground beef meals. I tried a bite of my sons burrito it was decent, however not something I would order out unless going through a drive thru. I am perplexed I always had enjoyed this restaurant in the past, today was a shock my meal was basically unedible. Maybe an off day? I don’t know but I would not return.

What happened? This was my ‘go to’ restaurant whenever I came home to visit. Greasy chips. Runny yuck guacamole made with a mix? What in the world? Hubby ordered chicken quesidillas and got plain cheese. He was told that that is what he ordered. No apologies… «that’s what you ordered, you know now for next time.» WON’T BE A NEXTTIME! When I take the carryout to our five kids, their spouses, and girlfriends, I doubt they will return either. SMH. I guess you really can’t go home

Actually does not warrant one star. The staff is very rude and the food is not good. Have had better Mexican food from Del Taco. Needless to say, they won’t be getting any more of our hard earned money.

First time i was here, sat down and waited for 15 minutes, no one came to our table, brought us water, or chips/salsa, and we left. Got carryout a few months later and wasn’t too impressed. It was ok food, just less portions and more expensive than many of the other more authentic places around. The employees seemed understaffed and overworked… pay them more or hire another person if its an issue please.

Was pretty impressed with this place. Very small seating area. Wait staff was nice and very quick with orders and chips/salsa. Portions are decent size. I was surprised when I wasnt given a whole plate of rice and beans with my tostadas, since most places do. But this is a good thing to me as I usually can’t eat all if it after getting through all the other food ive ordered. I loved my tostadas with all the toppings and the guacamole was fresh(homemade?). I like the tacos better at Nibble Nook, but i would return here again to try some other things(like maybe a margarita).

I must have been to Old Mexico on an off night. I have seen this place for years and often said we should try it. So we did. On a Wednesday night, we walked in and the tiny place was packed. So far, so good. Order our go to Margarita and fajitas. We are ready to enjoy a really good small, local diner. Then come the chips and salsa. Greasy, glistening chips and so, so salsa. Ok, let’s try the best part… Margarita! NOT… the mix they use is not good, but again that is a taste preference… let wait until the food arrives. Sadness with the fajitas… no sizzle and a pool of grease instead of the nice crispy bits of meat… a couple of pieces of onion and peppers. The only reason I gave a 3 star instead of the 2 it truly deserves, was that the staff was wonderful. I know this will anger the loyalists, but hey, it’s an opinion. Rock on El Patio, El Coyote Locco and Las Palapas!

Old Mexico, I love you so much. Huge portions, great food. My Mexican go to. Only thing that sucks is the size of the restaurant… My house is bigger. Good thing they have takeout :)

I live right down the street from Old Mexico and I’ve been eating here since I could remember. Very good Mexican food and great nachos and salsa dips.

Drove past for a couple of years thought it was time to try out something so close to home. Don’t often eat what passes for Mexican as it is usually fried and too cheesy. Will confess I am a fan of Taco Bell’s Taco Salad(now called Fiesta Taco Salad and smaller every year); what can I say, it’ a nice combo of salad and fixings. But the old Mexico combo here will not be a new favorite. All very bland. The taco was the best because the shell is fried, always makes stuff tasty, but that’s not really saying much. I had the carryout so might that be a reason I couldn’t identify the thing under the paper? Maybe an enchilda? Very soggy and I think cheesy. Dog liked it. They use queso cheese instead of cheddar, which is very mild. Had to keep putting taco sauce on stuff to get some taste. Guess they serve what most people here want to eat, but hardly«Mexican Cuisine’. No fish tacos here, bit hard to find anyway. Need to go to Mexican town probably.

I had a great experience here! Check this out… Quick intro: I started a «Lunch Around the World Club» at work where a bunch of random foodies get together once a month to enjoy a different cuisine(non-commercialized chains) in good company. February, 2015 was Mexican cuisine and we chose Old Mexico. I knew this place was relatively small, so I called ahead the night before to let the restaurant know we would have 10 people coming. They readily confirmed they would be ready… then I learned the morning of our adventure that we would have 14 people. I called ahead and, again, they readily confirmed they would be ready. When we arrived, the restaurant was set up with the perfect amount of tables and chairs grouped together. Menus, ice water, chips and salsa and extra water pitchers were on the table. They were ready! Nearly all of us ordered the lunch specials and one ordered a Mexican sandwich. Everything came out looking fresh and tasty and the waitresses were ONTOPOFIT! [Tip: Their standard salsa is good with a yummy garlic taste. If you want a spicy salsa, you’ll have to special request it. They gladly accommodated our requests.] I had the #7 combo and it was a good amount of food(with plenty of chicken) for the money. T-A-S-T-Y! They knew we were on a lunch break, so they efficiently handed each person our individual tabs as we wrapped up our meals. No pressure to leave(although the other diners probably enjoyed the quiet after we left) and the waitresses continued to make sure our empty plates were promptly removed and beverages were topped off when desired. That said, I’m not sure we could have even asked for better food or service here. The prices were very reasonable and ALL14 people were happy. Do what?! Yep, that’s what I said, all 14. I’ll be back… with or without my peeps.

I love the lunch specials here. Good prices($ 4-$ 7) for great food and outstanding service. They are great with substitutes, just incase the picky eaters are worried, and have a variety of everything. Salsa and chips are served for free and pair good with their drinks ;]

Stopped in last night for margaritas, gauc and conversation. Small place. Small menu but good options. Full bar with a good selection of margaritas. The gauc was fresh and very good. Two salsa were brought out — one spicy, one mild. Neither had much flavor, other than the heat. Had to have the spicy replaced after my companion found a hair in it. Chips were thick, fried in house, it looks like. They were ok. The gauc, on a chip, dipped in the hot salsa proved to be a nice combination. Location is just east of Middlebelt on 5 mile rd. Don’t wait for your server to cash you out. Walk up to the register or you will be there forever.

We went here on a Tuesday night because the reviews looked decent and the location was ideal. Plus we were craving Mexican. So we pulled up to the tiny little building and parked in the small parking lot then proceeded to enter the nonexistent lobby area to be seated. The dining area was cramped, even for a Tuesday. Menu was pretty satisfying and had plenty to choose from. We decided to follow one recommendation and get the Guacamole Nachos, and we also ordered a wet burrito and enchilada(verde sauce) HOLYMOTHEROFMEXICO! The food was utterly fantastic. We had to switch tables because the plates and serving sizes were so large but we were completely fine with that! I would definitely, without a doubt, be back again. They really need to get a bigger place though!

Eh, I’m just not impressed. I came by myself for lunch on a Tuesday and the place was SLAMMED with only two people running the whole store! From the time I sat down to when I got my food it was 45 minutes — and I merely ordered a small beef & cheese nachos. Service was friendly but very slow. Nachos were bland and I find the thick chips to be a chore to eat when your whole meal consists of them. Everything else I saw looked good so I’ll maybe get carryout tacos or something.

A very typical, local Mexican restaurant. The bean soup was surprising — and good! Tortilla chips are thicker than cantina– style, but very good all the same. Served warm. Excellent cantina salsa.

Sooooooo dirty!!! This is the second time we’ve attempted to eat here and have found it to be dirty! At first glance our table looked clean, but when we sat down we saw sticky areas, a wet smear of what looked like sour cream… Our waitress briskly brought over silverware and sat them down before we could tell her about the mess… She wasn’t going to take the silverware back and get us fresh… We had to ask and she actually seemed bothered by this. All I could think is if the dining area is dirty… What does the cooking/washing area in the back, look like. We ordered soft shell beef tacos. You get two tacos, loaded with meat mixture, lettuce and cheese. Huge portion… Price appropriate. Unfortunately not our favorite beef mix … Sweet, chunks of tomato and onion, very very wet. We had to eat them with forks. I love the beans with melted cheese… But meh on the dry– clumpy rice. Good chips and salsa a little thicker and milder than I like. I’ve gotten other items off of the menu for carry out and have been pleased, but this wasn’t a good experience. From service, to cleanliness
