I have always been pleased with the food at Viceroy.

I coordinated a dinner here for about 9. There were a few with dietary restrictions and they were able to accommodate us. I had 4 – 5 of the dishes and they were all good. I specifically remember enjoying the veggie platter, eggplant bharta, veggie bhojan, and tandoori mixed grill. They do charge for steamed rice so it worked out to be something like $ 25 a person with some drinks mixed in. Pretty reasonable and everyone enjoyed their meal and the dining experience.

My husband and I eat here several times per year and love it. The best Indian food in the area by far, and the waiters are so nice. We usually done in for dinner with a groupon or another deal since authentic Indian food is a bit pricey for a non-occasion. Love the Viceroy!

Excellent lunch buffet. I go for Mango ice cream and stay for the Buffett. Some items are better than others on the lunch Buffett. Go early when the Buffett starts so Tandoori chicken is less dry. Overall I highly recommend this place. Absolutely save room for the Mango ice cream… simply the best!

The liquor being served in the banquet hall is not what it appears to be They refill premium bottles such as Grey Goose, Bombay Bacardi with cheap Barton’s liquor The bottles have been used so many times over and over the labels are coming off This practice has been ongoing to my knowledge for the last 5 years

We came for the lunch buffet on Saturday. It’s $ 12 and all you can eat! The food was delicious and all had different spices which made for an excellent experience! I loved the butter chicken or chicken makhani the best! If you never had Indian food, then the buffet is a good way to try it. Your bound to find something you like! I loved it and will be back! The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is because I like Sara’s eastern cuisine buffet the best. They are in Naperville off route 59 and is the best Indian food I ever had in my life!

Whenever I’m craving Indian food in the West burbs, I go to Viceroy of India. Contrary to some other reviews, I’ve always received kind service, generous portions, and a satisfied stomach. Plus, it’s always nice to get a discount through the Unilocal or Groupon deals they always have going on. Great food and good service at Viceroy of India!

3.5 I had take out from this place couple times and was mildly surprised when I found out they had a buffet. The contents of the buffet was nothing fancy but I loved the variety of curry and masala. The highlight of this place is the chicken masala and the mango dessert(I forget the proper name). The naan is also unlimited refills so you can go ham on the main dishes with it. Eventually I just stopped getting rice and started eating only with the naan. Would probably go again.

Our new favorite place for Indian! We found a Unilocal deal and were looking for a good Indian restaurant so we tried it. Must admit that without the Unilocal coupon in hand we would have probably just kept driving because it does not look too good from outside. But this was probably the BEST we’ve ever found from NY to LA. We will be back! Spices were fresh and perfect. Service was full of TLC. Thank you Viceroy for a great dinner.

It used to be a good place to eat Indian Buffet 2 years back. Visited today after a long– Its worst place to eat. Very less choices for buffet, apart from verities there was no food in plate or Serving vessel. — Old food — not at all warm — had to wait almost 20 mins to get any dish. — Got food positioning Would never recommend anyone to waste their money!

I have been here twice now, and I just don’t find myself being too impressed. My boyfriend and I went here on New Year’s Day(it was literally one of the only restaurants open that day) and we just were not satisfied. Their buffet is plentiful with various options, however, they did not label what was in the food and that can be tricky for people who have restrictive diets, such as vegetarian. They also had a wonderful soup, but did not place any soup bowls out. I was kind of confused. The service was cold and rude, but swift. It was just weird. I decided to come back again this past week and grab a quick bite to eat. I ordered the Navarataan Korma and it was bland when it was hot and I tried it the next day and it was still bland. However, after this time, I became so nauseous that I am not sure if I had food poisoning or something was not cooked. Overall, my experience with Vicerory has been okay, but not exceptional.

The food was good, the customer service was good. Our waitress checked up on us(literally), every 3 – 4 minutes. We couldn’t get in a long enough conversation because she kept asking us if our good was ok or if we needed a refill. We also had a Groupon and the waitress took my phone with her to ring up our tab, I wasn’t too comfortable with that… all in all, everything was ok. I’ve been to other India restaurants and they usually ask my how spicy I want my food; they didn’t at this one.

Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Cold Food My family and I made the mistake of coming here for Mother’s Day dinner because of the stellar reviews and a $ 25 off coupon. When we arrived around 6pm we were seated and patiently waited for someone to come give us menus. After about 10 min, we asked for a menu and were told that there is ONLY a buffet available for Mother’s Day. We were disappointed and I was surprised because I called them in the morning to make a reservation for dinner and there was no mention of a «buffet only dinner.» Since we already drove all the way up there, we reluctantly went to the buffet. Call me Sherlock Holmes but I cleverly deduced that the food was all leftovers from lunch. How you ask? It’s elementary my dear Watson. The food trays were half empty(even though there were only 3 other people in the restaurant) half the food was cold, the ice cream was melted, some tray burners weren’t even on. And actually, it wasn’t that clever of me since everyone that came in after us figured it out too. One of the mothers was so upset she demanded the staff feel how cold the food was and that new fresh food be put out. I didn’t even try to eat any of the food that wasn’t remotely warm and ended up eating the butter chicken. I’ll admit it was pretty tasty, but it is hard to make butter chicken taste bad. Overall, my appetite was shot; and I’m a pretty big eater. The cherry on top: As we finished our dinner, we saw a new family get seated… and they were given MENUS! This was the last straw. I asked to see the manager and complained about the food being cold and most likely left over from lunch, and especially how unfair it was that they were giving out menus now. I have to hand it to manager because he is legit a real smooth talker. He almost convincingly told us he had no idea why we were told it was buffet only and blamed it on the waiter, and also that the food was all fresh made an hour ago. But, you shouldn’t bullish*t a bullsh*tter. I’m pretty sure they decided to start giving out menus because EVERYONE was complaining about the buffet. The cherry on top? He gave us 35% off our bill of $ 80($ 19 per person for the buffet). So to sum up: Service: 3⁄5 because the wait staff was really nice and the manager did apologize to us and gave us a discount. Food: 2⁄5 because most of it was cold and butter chicken was decently delicious. Atmosphere: 3⁄5 We were all in a bad mood but it was nice and quiet and I was still getting to spend time with my mom. I don’t doubt the other reviews are accurate, I think they definitely have a chance at making delicious food. I think we just went on the wrong day when the restaurant was trying to cut corners. I hope everyone else has a great experience there but I don’t plan to go back.

First time trying out Indian food and wasn’t disappointed. I admit to having low expectations due to several 1&2 star Unilocal reviews. It’s not the Cheesecake Factor when it comes to décor and does have several noticeable cosmetic issues but so what!(If it was a hole in the wall then I could understand but I get the impression they do try fix and patch up things.) I came for the lunch buffet @ 1pm. Walking up to the door I could see the food which I thought was a little odd. Was seated given water and walked up to the buffet. Tried a little bit of everything and was only disappointed by one item(9 out of 10 good items is a A to me.) Service overall was okay. and can see how easy it would be to give this place 3 or 4 star review if I had came for dinner vs lunch buffet. I think if your reading the reviews before you come here you might slightly already be on edge looking for it to be bad. Which is unfair but it is what is. I didn’t feel overall that welcome. I wasn’t expecting them to ask me how was your trip to Morocco but just got a bland service. Not sure if they even serve drinks during lunch as I was never asked if I wanted anything as my water glass just kept being refilled. «Is this your first time?» «My fav dish is» «How’s the food?» «Do you need anything?» «Come Back Soon» The cashier did greet me with hello and walked me to my seat. but that was basically it. Although one of the host seem to have a blank/cold impression on his face whenever he took my plate or filled my glass of water, I got more enjoyably response from the waitress/bus lady that seemed to NEVER let me go 20 sec with a empty glass of water.:) Kudos to you and only reason why I left a tip) I think it was a manger that came by who was literally in the process of walking pass me and seemed to only stop to acknowledge my presents is only because I made eye contact with him with smile.(I wanted to talk to someone about how awesome my food was but no one seemed to want to talk)(I think the people behind me had a complaint and he was checking with them.) Despite this the food is GOOD! probably try the buffet a few times before I test to see if I’ll bring anyone to dinner here. Lunch buffet was $ 13 after taxes

the service merits 1 star; disinterested(the waiter was checking out his face in the mirror while taking our order, no one visited our table for 25 minutes after the appetizer was served). please save your hard earned money or donate it to the ASPCA; just don’t spend it on the bhel puri. the palak paneer and fish tikka were both very good. my wife grew up in south India, eating anything that swam, and she gave it 5 stars– that’s saying something! Sadly this wasn’t our lasting impression of the place. When you serve us this badly, you are disrespecting our time and our trust that you will provide us a decent meal the next time. In this way they failed at a very basic level.

Unilocal 20% off coupon didn’t work. :( Unilocal app said I already checked in but the restaurant doesn’t know how to react to it since Unilocal didn’t spit out a code. Food wise it’s okay. Nothing spectacular. Service is good. Edit: Unilocal spit out the code after I posted. But now the waiter said it’s a new card machine and he doesn’t know how to run my card again. Lame…

I love that this place is in an old banquet hall. There was a party going on in one of the rooms, so that was cool. My family and I were interested in eating a lot of Indian food and Viceroy did not disappoint. The appetizer platters — meant to introduce you to a variety of their apps — were just ok. It was literally one of each appetizers, so for the vegetarian platter it was all fried stuff. Not super appealing. I would just order whatever you want. The veggie samosas were pretty great. We ordered the chicken masala, the lamb josh rogan, palak paneer, the special biryani, and the bread basket. It was a lot of food for six people but made great leftovers. I don’t like lamb so I can’t comment on the josh rogan. The chicken masala was creamy and good, the palak paneer looked like a swamp but a delicious swamp, and the biryani was full of stuff! It was like fried rice with meat bit surprises. Portions were generous and the spice level was decent. We ordered medium with feeling like our tongues were dying. Service is stiff yet attentive. They always made sure our water glasses were filled.

We’ve been coming here for 27 years and it only keeps getting better! My mom literally checked herself out of the hospital right after she gave birth to me and left me there to come here, which sounds bad but the food is really just that worth it. :).

I came to try out their buffet on a Saturday afternoon. They open at 11:30 a.m., and yes, we were the first ones there! It’s a little place right off Roosevelt with it’s own parking lot and is a stand-alone. It kind of looks run down from the outside and the ambiance could use an update, but the food definitely surpassed my expectations based on the appearance. They had a wonderful spread for the lunch buffet — a few more dishes to choose from than most Indian buffets. I loved the Chicken Tikka and their Mango Ice Cream was one of the best I’ve had! The service was spot on and very courteous. The one thing I didn’t like is that the food was set up right when you walked in the front door. I wish their was a better place to set it up that didn’t have people walking in and out of the building. I will definitely be back here soon to get my Indian fix!

The staff is tuned in to your needs, I’m pretty sure I walked out thinking, «man, that host seemed genuinely happy to have us dine there even if it was 9:45pm and they close at 10pm.» The food, delightful. The nann is less doughy and more on the crispyish side, tasty nonetheless. Make sure you ask the waiter to make your food spicy, otherwise they serve it with no spice. The place looks awesome, food is on point, and the staff is great. Go here, don’t think twice!
