The food is good. I go regularly for myself and coworkers too! We spend quite a few $ there. Effective Jan 2012, they now start charging for refills for coke 40c small and similar for sauce(like Ranch or honey mustard). That was never done before. Instead of charging nickle and dime, they should consider just raising combo cost by 25 to 50c and include this. The girl says«cost of coke has gone up, so we charge for refills». One extra coke glass isn’t 40c in addition to the $ 1.50 already on the small coke charged!!! I won’t patronize this restaurant any more. Their service level dropped.

I’m not sure I noticed an owner change, but I don’t go here all that much. I like their Greek salads, but a little pricey. They have good fries, and chicken souvlaki is decent. They have a nice deck patio. I remember when this place was Woody’s by the way! It’s a toss up between Zelly’s and Steve’s Gyro for me.

Molly and I made it to Chicagoland alive. We still had a little traveling into the city left. After relaxing a little we decided we better get, in Jacki’s words, a «solid meal» before going out. I have been wanting to try Pita House forever and I thought this was going to be my day. Upon walking in the door Molly and Jacki freaked out. Meal not«solid» enough for Jacki. So we decided to go to Zelly’s? Definitely a step down and no hummus, but a gyro none the less. It was the standard Kronos gyro shaved meat. Always delicious with some of the greek sauce(I’m not going to try to spell it) and if I remember this one didn’t have lettuce, which I appreciate. It did have onions and tomato. The fries were standard and the chocolate shake was lacking in some way, but actually really good.? Jacki and Molly both said it was good, so I am going to go with it was good. Jacki had the Italian beef which she was raving about and she got the onion rings with her combo which were some of the best I have ever had. Molly had the chicken gyro which she enjoyed and let me finish! The lady at the counter was very friendly and patient since we were the only ones in line. We wanted to sit outside, but the wind was blowing just a little too hard. Zelly’s was definitely a place I knew I would enjoy, but didn’t imagine us going here anytime soon. May be back for more onion rings though!

Update!!! Last night we went to Zelly’s and were surprised to see different people behind the counter. Apparently two and a half weeks ago they changed owners! I was surprised how thrown I was with this– we got so used to seeing the familiar friendly people behind the counter. We didn’t even get to say goodbye. :( But the new owner seems very nice and she said the menu is going to stay the same, with some new items added. She also said they will eventually do a little remodeling. They are now open on Sundays, which is great! And the best news for us is that the cook is the same.

This3 star review is a shout out to my bro… here is the star breakdown 1 star – for the name, not many places start with a Z. Actually I cant think of any so they are a one of a kind right there. 2 stars – for my bro Joe he talks about Zellys like its his first born child. He refers to it daily and forces me to drive from my dads work in VP on North ave. all the way to Roosevelt. Those of you who are locals understand my pain, the train tracks, the lame Westmore 30mph speed limit its a miserable drive. This is all in search of his fav. the Chicken Gyro! Apparently its pretty amazing and other family members agree too. I personally think the food blows I’m a veggie and they only really have a grilled cheese which is $.99, the price matches the taste. Besides the cheap grilled cheese I think the prices are a little much for the quality of food.

I am a huge fan of Zelly’s! I eat here for lunch on almost a weekly basis! They have the best gyro you can ask for outside of greektown! Plus the price is right! I haven’t had anything here other than the gyro, because it is too good to pass up, but I am sure everything else is just as good! Nice family owned business! My mouth waters thinking about it!

As a restaurant manager that use to run a hot dog joint as one of his many outlets, I am very critical. Zelly’s is most definitely the best in the area. I agree that it can be a little pricey, but I’m willing to pay for a little cleanliness and quality. I would suggest that they develop a frequent customer program to drive more sales and get a following. Competition is tough in the area and although I live close by, I will drive out of my way to pick up something from Zelly’s.

I’m simply just not a fan. I ate here once… threw up their food, then went to the emergency room to have my appendix removed. I know that my appendix and the food were unrelated but it doesn’t change the fact that the food just isn’t good. Freezer burnt garbage at best. If I had to say anything nice, the breaded mushrooms were okay but you could tell they were freezer burnt and they were so tiny… like breaded peas or something. I would much rather walk 25 feet to Steve’s Gyros to get something worthy of penetrating my mouth.

As another reviewer pointed out, pretty much all gyro places use the same meat, but you can’t always count on them having chicken gyros. With that said, I keep coming back to this place for the Chicken Gyro. The people behind the counter, who may be the owners, as the same people are there every time I come in, are always friendly and helpful. The food’s ready fast, and there is a TV to keep you company if your lunch buddy’s bail on you.

Small little place where Woody’s used to sit. They have moved from down the street and the Kitschy Route 66 décor moved with them. The people are nice and friendly, it’s clean and food prepped on the spot. I love gyros. I am now beginning to realize that it’s either Vienna or Kronos meat that everyone uses. With that in mind, their gyros taste just like everyone else. I’m not saying that’s bad, but nothing out of the ordinary. The fries remind me of Ore Ida frozen fries. Decent size menu with burgers, chicken, subs, filling salads and hot dog specials. The place is priced moderately. However, I am starting to get annoyed with having to pay 50 cents for soda refills. I’d rather go to lunch somewhere else where they don’t charge 50 cents for refills. Yeah, I know… I’m a cheap bastard but, «Time’s is tough, man… time’s is tough…»
