Foodies beware! Lunch was underwhelming! The service was incredibly slow. My Cobb salad was supposed to come with avocado, but they forgot to put it on. It wasn’t worth complaining. And the balsamic vinegar cork was falling apart in my hands. Our garlic fries were underdone. And the limited menu was mainly sandwiches and salads, with no nod toward modern dining tastes which lean toward having gluten-free options. It was actually very casual and not too snobby — some people show up in t-shirts. Most are in golf clothing. And there was no background music! The place seriously needs redecorating. It’s got a tasteful midcentury modern design with vaulted ceilings and what used to be brown wood beams, which have since been painted. I think they ought to go with that midcentury style to give the place proper ambiance. The man said it was«surprisingly shabby.» Some of the acoustical tiles in the women’s locker room were sagging. They’ve made some poor design choices. The chandeliers appear to have been updated in the 1990s, mismatched, and have mismatched fluorescent bulbs. I can’t think of anything tackier. And the impressive fireplace was sponge painted(let’s hear it for the 90s!) They ought to go with the whole midcentury look to reswankify it. There is a nice view from the large windows, though they ought to have had someone out there cleaning up all of the balls that speckled the landscape. I’ve heard the food is supposed to be good for dinner, but I’m not sure I would go back since lunch was so disappointing and the atmosphere & service left so much to be desired. You only have one chance to make a first impression.

After reading my review, the owner, Kristie took the time to contact me and invite us back, on the house. we returned, unannounced. I have to say, the second time around was a much nicer experience. the trout was prepared excellently, very fresh. I just adore the pear walnut salad. Service was much better, just don’t be in a rush. My husband was also pleased with his prosciutto goat cheese flat bread. crème brûlée to die for… thank you for the gift, Kristie. We will be back.

Sage Restaurant and Bar provided a nice little reception for my family and I after my grandfathers funeral recently. It was the perfect set up and we had the restaurant to ourselves to enjoy each others company and share memories. The food was exceptional and tasted so fresh. We had the bruschetta(a little heavy on the garlic, but I love garlic so it didn’t phase me), meatballs with peach BBQ sauce, and the spring rolls. All of it was phenomenal! We also had FRESH fruit that was the perfect fit with our little appetizers. The lemon bars and brownies were tasty too! The staff, I can’t remember their names, were very cordial and always knew when to check back in with us. It was a wonderful experience and we all enjoyed being back at the Village Country Club to celebrate the life of my grandfather. Thank you again Sage for providing a welcoming and heartwarming atmosphere! If I ever return to Lompoc, I will be sure to visit here again.

Horrible service! We were considering joining the country club itself but after the horribly rude woman we spoke with today that isn’t going to happen. We called yesterday and asked about Easter brunch. .times, cost, etc. Never once did they say reservations were required. We called this morning to reserve a table and we’re told there was nothing available. When I mentioned it would have been nice to know that when we called yesterday, she rudely said«you should have made reservations weeks ago so I don’t know what to tell you.» If you’re sold out, fine, but be nice to your potential customers. In my 15 years in hotel management I’ve never come across such rude service. We’ll be spending our money elsewhere.

Place is a real pleasure to visit. I must say I don’t care for the open seating in the main dining area. Too much like a convention hall or cafeteria. There is beautiful views of the golf course all around you, but they just need to break it up into sections for slightly more private dining. Now the BAR area is absolutely fabulous. It’s where we always sit. Same beautiful views but with a Rocky fireplace and we usually sit at the bar then move to one of the pub tables. Drinks are stiff, great local beers on tap, and the food… the food is exceptional. Anything on the menu from veggie appetizers to(my favorite) the pork belly entrée, fish and steak specials, and great fancy deserts. A gem.

If you know the history of the Country Club’s restaurant you’ll know Kristi, the owner is a blessing compared to Sissy who treated her employees & customers like dirt. Kristi has a sincere smile, is genuinely happy to see locals and newcomers and works to accommodate private luncheons/dinners. Sooo, drive a whole six minutes out of town to spend your hard earned money on a fabulous dinner!

High beamed dining room has a beautiful view on the golf course. To some it may seem like a banquet hall but I like the indoor/outdoor feel. Good choice of loal wine by the glass(or bottle) I had a meat and cheese appetizer plate along with a few glasses of wine. The dinners coming out of the kitchen looked great and there is a whole new crowd. Will be back

Love, love, love the FOOD here!!! I have eaten here at least five times!!! The shrimp cocktail was chilled to perfection and accompanied by freshly made cocktail sauce for dipping!!! So nice to not have bottled sauce!!! The local Halibut was grilled to perfection, plated with grilled asparagus and baby potatoes! Don’t even get me started on the mashed POTATOES!!! Yummy! There is a wonderful chicken breast that was so tender and juicy that I couldn’t wait to go back! The soup of the day has been so wonderful each time that I have ordered. Such a great variety. So, Kudos to the Executive Chef Chris… who is a visionary in the kitchen and a master of YUM! Thank you Christie, who owns this restaurant, for your kind words and attentiveness to good service and good food. I can’t wait for the weekend. if Chris cooking. we are eating!!!

Wonderful food and great wine selection. Service is always very good. I also appreciate that there is a full bar. Some of our favorite dishes are their flat bread pizzas, the sea bass, prime rib, and pastas. The only bummer is that the ambiance is a little outdated but the views are amazing!

So… It’s a bit out of town. But as travel to good restaurants from Lompoc goes, the trip is a short 5.5 miles(or less from where you are). Compared to Buellton, Santa Maria, or even Los Alamos, Sage(at the country club) is practically next door. The bar scene seemed a bit sedate. But that’s a good thing considering the bar is connected to the dining area. We went on a Thursday evening, and the place was ¼ full at 6:30PM. But I have heard that the crowd is still a little erratic from day to day. Sage has only been open since March, so a lot of Locals are still«finding» this place. The building is owned by the country club, so there will be no knocking down walls or total remodels for Sage. They have to work with the dining and bar space available. So enough about the minor challenges involved in conforming a very new and promising restaurant into an existing building space. On the good side, the dining room views are exceptional, and overlook the green and landscaped golf course. The dining area is also large with high vaulted ceilings. So the ambiance and feel of Sage is really very nice. Linen table clothes and napkins, nicely arranged tables and chairs, and a smartly dressed staff set the tone for our dining experience. Our server(Janie) was very cordial, attentive, and professional. Service was prompt. And I we got to enjoy our appetizers before the soups/salads arrived. AND we were not rushed to finish salads before our entrées arrived. You have to remember that Sage is shooting at offering«fine dining». Not a quickie in-and-out experience. So be prepared to take a little time to enjoy your meal with food coming as you are ready. If you’re in a hurry, you better let your server know. Otherwise, sit back and enjoy! My sister and I ordered the«special.» Ribeye steaks with green beans and excellent scalloped potatoes. My wife ordered the pork chops. The steaks and chops were excellent quality and prepared to order. Vegetables were perfect with just the right firmness and buttery flavor. We finished with dessert. Coconut cream pie and crème brûlée with coffee. Both desserts were very good. And the coffee was excellent. The prices? Appropriate for he quality of ingredients and care in preparation. Any room for improvement? Sure. Seems like Sage is just now finding their groove. The next few months will be critical for working out the kinks, and making a name for themselves. Oh, and the bread is just okay. I am a fan of really good crusty bread served warm with butter before my meal. It sets the initial tone of a meal for me. So I’d like to see some really killer bread at some point. So. For my first experience. I feel very comfortable giving a fat 4 stars. Mostly for the excellent food preparation and service. But also for going out on a limb by offering one of a very few fine dining options in Lompoc. Oh… And the owner Christie(sp), and husband Robert took the time to stop by our table and say hello. It takes so little time. But most restaurants just don’t bother to add those nice touches to a dining experience anymore. Bravo Sage. I’ll be coming back to see how you’re doing. And to sample more of your most excellent offerings.
