My husband and I had dinner here and thoroughly enjoyed it. Everything was hot and fresh. Service was friendly and prompt, even though it was a very busy Saturday night. Only thing that could have been better was the egg flower soup, seemed a little bland. All in all great meal for a great price.

Alright; you snobbish little self titled Chinese food experts from Seottle mon, seem to think you have the last word on Asian dining. We-ull ya don’t. I lived in and around Seattle for more years than I care to remember and I ate in the International District Asian restaurants(as well as the ones in other districts) many a time. Believe me, having a Seattle address does not guarantee a mark of excellence. As one reviewer already pointed out, Chen’s is a traditional Americanized Chinese cuisine restaurant. This food is what the people who go out for Chinese food expect and Chen’s delivers in spades. I don’t know if the prices are too high or not. The world economy has us thinking it’s OK to pay $ 45,000.00 for a tiny little car that saves us a few pennies on gasoline so 10 bux for a big bowl of fried rice doesn’t seem so out of line to me. I have never come away from Chen’s feeling hungry, cheated or as if I may have eaten someone else’s leftovers(I mean, gimme a fricken break lady). Always a good experience at both Chen’s restaurants. Oh yes, there is also a Chen’s in South Bend. As it turns out, the one in South Bend makes some of the best American breakfasts I’ve eaten. Don’t listen to the little snoblettes; treat yourself to some really good Chinese food. I likes em!!! Isa goin back!!! (past life 3,8,6,)

Most of the food was flavorless. We ordered sesame chicken, sweet and sour chicken, and almond chicken chow mein. The almond chicken comes without any sauce. Might be good for small children. The sweet and sour chicken sauce was very bland. Almost no flavor. The chow mein was the best of what we ordered but it was mostly celery. The egg drop soup has lots of veggies in it. Peas and carrots. The egg rolls are battered. I may have to learn how to make my own since we won’t be going back.

On most occasions, the waitress proves to be inhospitable, unfriendly, and unapproachable — even snippy! She acts like she is doing you a favor to take your order and bring your check! Forget coming back to see if you need anything else. If you get the male server, good for you, as it will be a better experience. The food is ok but nothing special. The soup is good but everything else is double coated with batter and if you find some protein inside, it is very small. I recommend the stir fry type dishes so you can see what you are eating. I ordered the beef and broccoli once but the beef was all slimy and tasteless so I never ordered that again. We prefer going to Astoria for good chinese food at the Hong Kong. Not to plug this restaurant but the food is flavorful and delicious.

Chen’s has been in Long Beach for years, and I just now got to try it. I have to say this is one of the best Chinese restaurants I’ve ever been to. For around $ 10 you can get 4 items of your choice(Each portion being huge). The quality of the food is great, everything is fresh and is just plain good.

We’ve driven by Chen’s many times when visiting Long Beach and finally decided to give it a try, based upon a recommendation from somebody recently. Now we are kicking ourselves for waiting so long! Our waiter was a very nice young man with a good sense of humor, the restaurant was very clean, and the service was fast. Our food was excellent. I had my standard fried rice and it was good as any I’ve had anywhere. My wife ordered shrimp special noodle chow mein and said it as the best Chinese food she had in a long, long time. And that’s saying a lot, because we eat at Chinese restaurants at least two or three times a month! We will definitely be going back again!

Even though the parking lot was full, we were seated quickly and our order was taken. Our food was delivered quickly and awesome. Lots of staff on duty and very friendly.

We ate here and enjoyed it very much … the Staff was very friendly & accommodating. food was fresh and very good. The Shrimp was too die for. Yummy! ! We stayed in the motel right next to chens. Nice rooms gotta get there early or you won’t get a room. Thank You Chen’s we’ll be back for sure.

Wasn’t expecting the best Chinese food in a coastal town but this was worse than expected. Sweet n sour sauce tasted a bit like soap. Fried wontons were plain with no flavor and egg flower soup tasted more like water downed chicken broth.

Choemein was all bean sprouts, not my favorite. Lemon chicken sauce was okay however chicken overcooked. Egg roll was over breaded and disproportionately stuffed with bean sprouts. Crab puffs were very good.

On several occasions, the waitress proves to be inhospitable, unfriendly, and unapproachable. However, the food at Chens is the best Chinese I have ever had. I would recommend the Chefs Special and the Orange Chicken(real oranges!)

While in Long Beach this last time, some friends of ours that we were visiting insisted that we try Chen’s because it was the«Best Chinese Food» they had ever had. I am always skeptical when people preface a place like that. Prior to going, I checked out their reviews here on Unilocal and having been to Long Beach before, thought the chamber might not like Asian’s or something because the rating was lower than most. Yes, I believe that Long Beach has a conspiracy, most establishments have 70 to 80 reviews and are all four and five stars but if you actually visit these places, they are mediocre to terrible. SO, because our friends wanted to go here, I thought why not. Well, the service was good, the restaurant was clean, but that’s about where the positives stop. The food was just«Meh», in fact I think I have had better from Panda Express, and well that’s just terribly, white washed, Chinese crap. We ordered one of the family dinners, the portions were more than enough, we had a to-go box for each of the entrees they brought us. Of all of them that we had, the General’s chicken was the best. None of the dishes were even remotely spicy, including one of my all-time favorites, «Kung-Pao Chicken» which didn’t even have a pepper in site. It was a let down really. We did order the Supreme Sampler to start, which was decent. I liked the egg rolls and the shrimp, their sweet and sour sauce they bring is different but the mustard, barely mild in spice level. Well, there you have it, the only Chinese place on the peninsula, but who goes to Long Beach for anything other than seafood?

I usually go out of my way to find decent Asian cuisine. The staff seemed friendly enough. The food is mediocre at best. I thought since we came during the off season(which was quite busy) and didn’t see many cars it would be an opportunity to test out the food. The three of us didn’t finish our meal(we had take out). I ordered the Mongolian beef and thought it was a disaster. The BBQ pork was bad, crab cheese wontons without the crab, and the egg roll is a horrible rendition of a burrito. I do hope they can improve. It would be nice to actually enjoy the food and the staff seems nice enough. Shame on them, however.

The kung pao chicken was spicy and tasty. The tomato beef chow yuk was fairly sweet but not bad. Somehow we ended up with 3 huge boxes of rice. The salad was good. The eggrolls were just ok. Still it was nice takeout dinner we could eat back at the hotel with our dogs. I would eat there again. It’s not the best Chinese food but is fairly good for the area.

I am only giving this place 2 stars because I feel you have to be more lenient to restaurants in this area. Dude… Mr. Chen… Get outta here! You know your cutting corners. I left this place feeling the only thing I may have gained from this meal is a double chen…

Dreadfully mediocre Chinese food establishment on the Long Beach Peninsula. The pork foo yung had the life sucked out of it long before it even met my table. It looked like it was made on a George Foreman grill. The sauce tasted like a just-add-water powder mix, and the egg roll had about as much integrity as Ted McGinley’s latest Google search. This place came highly recommended to me by a dude I used to work with, although he ended up quitting due to a drug addiction, so there’s always that. I also had to ask for a knife on two occasions and I’m still waiting for it. What a trainwreck!

Poor service, watered down(literally, water) drinks and sauces. The ONE saving grace was that the General Taos was adequate, and actually chicken breast meat.

Chen’s restaurant is one of those places that you must go to if you are in Long beach and you like chineese food. We decided to do take out and the food was great. For all of you vegetarians – they have a nice selection of foods available. This is a really good restaraunt in Long beach

My hubby and I go to Long Beach many many times during the year and have been for a number of years. We have our favorite places we visit EVERY time — it’s tradition, however, we’d never eaten at Chen’s and boy have we been missing out! Their food is soooo good! Prices are great, portions are big(we had lots of left overs) and the staff is super nice. Now we understand why their parking lot is always full! Chen’s will definitely be worked into our routine when we’re in Long Beach :-)
