As many others who work out here, I have done a fair amount of crossfit in the past. I have had to stop crossfitting twice due to injury and didn’t think I would find a way to build strength and endurance while also avoiding injury. Since starting to attend the Annex, I’ve found that not only have I avoided injury, minor aches and mains have almost disappeared! I love that the programing is designed to deliver a powerful workout while helping me avoid injury so I can keep at it. I feel great since I’ve been coming to the Annex and I always look forward to my next workout. The coaches all do a wonderful job and also are very mindful of my bad knees and make great suggestions on how I can make minor changes in certain movements so that I can remain comfortable during the workout.

Think of the Annex as a gym that you walk into, your workout is programmed for you, your coaches are there to guide you through the movements and you get in and out within an hour or less. Boom, give the program a few weeks and you’ll living on that endorphin cloud feeling better than ever. –The style of training that The Annex offers has been more beneficial to me than anything else I’ve ever tried(CrossFit, running/jogging, cycling, Etc). It’s just the perfect balance of strength, metcon(cardio), and mobility/flexibility. The Annex has actually made me stronger and faster for everything else I used to do(above) to stay fit. I love you CrossFit, but you’re just a ticking time bomb for injury and I’ve already had 2 knee surgeries from being a competitive athlete in my past life.(What the Annex is doing is what CrossFitters should be doing to supplement their CrossFitting.) –The workouts are intelligent, goal oriented and most importantly ALREADYPLANNEDOUT. They can be scaled for an elite athlete to your grandma, so no worries if you’ve been out of the game for a while. –The coaches are hands down some of the most qualified experts in Long Beach. Joey(owner) creates one of the most welcoming atmospheres that I’ve ever experienced in a gym setting. –The community is just real fun. All good vibes all of the time. –Parking is ample(2 lots & street). –The facility is beautiful. –Equipment is all brand new. –Free week trial.

I am a new member of 4th St. Annex and I have enjoyed the training very much. The coaches are all friendly and awesome and they are all very knowledgeable. I love it! They also have Bootcamp and it’s a kick a**class. Two thumbs up for this gym.

This place will help you retune your body *AND* make you look healthy. If you are looking to get insanely shredded by doing Olympic lifts, this may not be the place for you. If you are looking to get lean, reduce injury in life, feel better and work out with normal folks looking to do the same then you should come here for a free week trial. No joke. I’ve done the traditional CrossFit stuff too. However, this one is more inline with my lifestyle as a human looking to wear smaller sized clothing, gain confidence again in my body structure and a desire to reduce injury due to weak hips and muscles. The coaches are personable. The workouts are challenging. The workouts are fun because they are never the same. The workouts always seem to expose the weakest areas of my body upon which I need to focus for better total health. The classes are a mix of 30 something professionals, straight people, gay people, parents bringing their teenage kids, crossfit practitioners, hipsters, older folks, etc. It’s Long Beach all in one room. NOTE: Don’t make the mistake of misinterpretting the workouts here. If you are brand new and super out of shape, you won’t feel embarrassed b/c you slow the class down. Trust me. I was(and maybe still am :) that guy. Nobody ever(coaches or members) made me feel dumb because I had never done movement X or b/c my fitness level was WAY lower than everybody else in a class. The cool thing is that everybody gets their own/good workout every time. Nobody ever drags anybody down. I like that. It allows me to focus on kicking ass and not on how much I suck. Haahahahahaha.
