Lars H Hertzog, MD FACS

I have been coming to Dr Hertzog for over 15 years. He is the doctor for my whole family. Javier the technician is also very warm and efficient. My insurance doesn’t even cover him now but I will pay cash for his exceptional care.

Dr Hertzogs spent quite a while with my husband during initial diagnosis. We had been added to his schedule for an immediate need.
Several tests Later he referred us to an excellent retina specialist. After this problem was handled he has since done cataract surgery on both eyes.
We have received exceptionally good care by a all the staff and feel blessed to have found an excellent physician

This has nothing to do with Dr. Lars Hertzog. He is just an awesome doctor and we love him.
Unfortunately we have to find a new eye doctor. After he joined with a large medical group things just changed drastically.
We walked out on our appointment at his new location after we cam early for the appointment, but were tossed for 40 minutes from one room to another. They told us they do not have files on my husband and we have to start all over again and fill out new paperwork. The front office is over staffed with way too many people, busy with their own chit chatting. The old location was very friendly and hospitable. We feel bad for Dr. Hertzog because he is and awesome doctor. My husband had a cataract surgery and had to have his annual check up. How can you not have files on him?
Sadly, we are forced to find a new eye doctor.

Ok, this really isn’t about Lars. I’ve seen him before and was very happy. This is about the new group he has associated with, Eye Physicians of Long Beach. I went there on time and 40 minutes later I’m still dealing with the receptionist. She was/​is incompetent. She couldn’t find my insurance and I just finally walked out. I’m sorry to lose Dr Hertzog as a doctor but I’ll never set foot in that office again.

Outstanding surgery on cataracts. He was recommended by another eye doctor with high praise which proved well deserved.

This is my first time seeing Dr Lars Herztog at his new office. But if follow him wherever he goes. Super kind gentle man who probably has never said a negative word in his life! He knows that I am squeamish about my eyes bring poked and is super gentle. I also need special tests for a blood clot in my brain and other medical conditions and he takes great care of me! USE THIS EYE DOCTOR!!!

At 7 AM today Dr. Hertzog did a spectacular job of removing the other cataract from my left eye without a hitch! Also, in less time as in the right eye in December of last year.
Guess what?
No more glasses except to read very fine print. Now I can bat my pretty blue flirters without any reflection except from your smile.

As an insurance-​less girl, it’s not always easy for me to get last minute appointments. Dr. Hertzog’s receptionist was really helpful and managed to squeeze me in within an hour of my call. She also offered me a really reasonable cash quote. I don’t know about my fellow Unilocalers but I’ve found the best doctors often have the worst receptionists. This is not the case with Dr. Hertzog.
Dr. Hertzog is awesome! He’s very personable and he makes you feel at ease. He asked me a lot of questions and was really thorough with the eye exam.
And as an added bonus, I discovered he’s a runner, too. A Boston qualifying runner! How cool is that?
