Long Beach Gas Utility

This is absolutely the worst company I've ever had to deal with in my entire life. Their customer service is absolutely awful. They don't try to help you at all and they don't even try to act like they care about your situation. They know they have you by the balls because they're the only ones in town. The city needs to completely overhaul this department it's absolutely the worst

Oh God, so they cut our gas off last night after 4pm and then have the nerve to tell us they will not turn our gas on until the freaking Monday after Christmas.
There was absolutely no effort made to help us, even after verifying that WE DID pay our bill.
The girl who clearly had an attitude provided us the absolute worst service I’ve had since the first time we had to dedeal with their horrid company.
These people are disgusting and they treat their customers horribly.
And I will keep calling until my EFFing gas is on.
I’m literally moving out if the city of Long Beach once my lease is up just to avoid this company.

I want to say that my service was turned on by a very efficient serviceman, Kevin Fees. He was professional and pleasant. The company even called me when he arrived. I am very pleased. Thank you

Absolutely outrageous! I took off work this morning because the appointment time they gave me was from between 7am-​12pm. How many businesses can say they may show anywhere in a 5 hour span? Yeah only one because it’s a resource and they can do whatever the hell they want. Anyway I take work off wait in my living room until about 10am. I walked to my front door and open it and there’s a missed appointment card on the door. The guy did not knock and apparently they don’t call. So I waited a week for gas and now I have to wait another 5 days. Long Beach pull your head out of your ass and find a company to do this for you. This is such an injustice.

There’s not much I can say that hasn’t been said by others. This company is absolutely terrible. The worst company I have ever dealt with anyplace I have ever lived. That’s with such gems as India, Mexico, and South Africa on my list.
I really love having a gas stove-​top but am considering switching my whole house to electric just to avoid dealing with these people. Yes, it is THAT BAD.
I wish I could give negative stars or that there was anything to really do. Alas, they are counting on having a captive market to prey on whose only recourse is to bitch on social media.

I had to change the account to my name at a new apt. and I was charged 70US in deposit and 30US for ‘installation’. No one had to come. Service was already running. When I didn’t received a bill for the 1^st month I called and called. Nothing. I wrote an email and finally got a response: they send my bill to a different address they had on file. (Why? not sure).
It has taken me more than three days to get mu account number so I can pay online. It does not work. I put the info and doesn’t recognize the name or account number. The bill they send me online says 120US due of which 10 is for actual gas.
Phone service waiting is unacceptable, bogus charges: unacceptable. Who is running this City service now and why is so terrible?
I wonder with these many bad reviews and experiences what is the real next step to launch a formal request for professional service at Long Beach Gas Company. This can’t continue at this level of disrespect for customers. Gas is an essential service and Gas leaks a big danger. It is unsafe for the City to keep this management in place.

Being new to Long Beach and having to set-​up service with the cable, gas, and electric utilities should be easy. The electric and cable folks make that possible with their online applications. Not so with Long Beach Gas Utility! You have to endure their automated phone tree service and a very long wait time. While you’re on hold, you’ll have to endure to an endless parade about how great Long Beach is and how they were given high marks for using technology.
News flash: A phone tree is not high technology! If I can set-​up service with Edison and Charter — on-​line — I should be able to do it with the gas service, too. Right?
I see from other reviews that customers were charged a «missed appointment» fee. The same thing happened to me. I waited well beyond the 4 hour window and when I called, I was told the service rep was at my building and left a voice mail. I never received a call nor was there a voice mail. In fact, I went to my phone providers website and checked to see if there were any calls made to my number in that 4 hour window and none were made.
The City of Long Beach is desperately trying to put a new face on this city. Rather than the fancy garbage cans and landscaping, they outta start with the themselves.

If I could give less stars I would. Literally just downloaded the Unilocal app so I could leave this review. There is a gas leak currently in my area of Belmont shore which we know is a fact through several social media apps. However we can’t get through to actually speak to a gas company rep. It’s been 46 minutes on hold at this point.

Absolutely terrible. Why is the city running gas anyway? First of all they tried to charge me $ 20 for a «missed appointment» (never heard of that charge from a gas ‘company’…) when I never even received a phone call that said the guys were there. And the lady on the phone made it seem like she was doing me a *favor* by removing the bogus fee.
Then I rescheduled for them to come over again the next day, they show up and all. The guy said there was a leak, which he was supposed to fix as well as turning on our gas stove. Then the next day the stove isn’t working and it reeks of gas. I call the phone number and finally get someone on the phone to report the smell. The guy initially wasn’t going to send anyone over until the NEXT day until I demanded that someone come asap, because idk it smells like gas??? And then I still had to wait two hours until the guys came, didn’t come in but just turned my gas off from the outside.
I truly hate this «company» and I can’t believe there’s no other option. Going to be a loooong year.

Technician from city of LB Gas Company walked by my neighborhood and detected a gas leak at my house! They turned off my gas, locked my meter and saved a lot of lives! Craig came out yesterday to explain the situation and came back today to Final my contractors gas pipeline repairs! I couldn’t be happier with my favorite city and the people who keep us safe!

They wouldn’t come turn on my gas until I verified tenancy at my new residence, being pregnant, I was out of a shower and food for 3 days. My first payment was sent and cashed in on time to them, I just received a bill including a late fee, the first bills charge, and a new charge. But they cashed my check? They asked for my bank statement, then after proceeded to ask me for a copy of the front and back of the check. Spoke to my bank, yep, it was City of Long Beach who cashed it. So now we shall wait on the final results. The woman I spoke with was very pleasant though. (Silver lining?)
My first time establishing credit and they are fucking my score over already.

Just seeing all the reviews on here for the crappy customer service just reiterates the point, Long Beach needs a NEW GAS COMPANY PROVIDER!!! Where is Southern California Gas when you need them?! Please someone take over!

Amazingly poor service. My bank says payment cleared 5÷19÷15. Service shut off 5÷26÷15. Automatic system didn’t recognize account number. Now on hold for the fifth time in two days so far for 45 minutes. My call is important to them apparently.

Been on hold for 43 minutes now… Who knows how much longer

It is seriously insane that these people can offer you a 5 hour window of when they might drop by. They offer morning 7 – 12 or afternoon 12 – 4. So no matter what you have to take a day off work to sit at home and deal with these people. Even Charter (the worlds worst television provider) offers a more reasonable 2 hour window.
Telephone wait times are ridiculous and your can’t accomplish anything on their god awful website.
Long Beach please reform this broken company.

This place is beyond anything I have ever seen before. I can not believe the total lack of any semblance of brains or ability to think critically.
I was scheduled for an appointment between 7 – 12 am which I went out of the way to make myself available for. I took half a day off of work. I slept on the floor of a new place that I have not yet moved into and was awake at 6:30 ready to sit in an empty house and wait out the 5hour appointment window. Come 10:24am I get a call that does not connect so I immediately run down from the 3^rd floor to the front door of the building (20 – 30 seconds max) I see the gas truck and employee sitting across the street I wave my arms in the air and the guy sees me and then proceeds to start his truck and drive away. I immediately call the gas co to tell them what had just occurred for it all to fall on deaf ears. To be fair the first lady that answered was fine she said she understood how frustrating and unacceptable the situation was and she would transfer me to a supervisor to resolve it. When the supervisor answered everything changed. I was instantly told I was not available for the appointment and that the technician had left me a voicemail (which he did not) and that his GPS showed that he was there until 10:31am which is curious since I was on the phone with them, angry, at 10:27. (I must have been calling from the future.) When I asked the supervisor what she would do in this situation her answer was «I’d answer my phone and be available; that’s what I’d do.» Apparently it was also impossible for them to contact the tech to come back since he was only 15mins away by that point because he has other appointments with a 5 hour window he can’t be late for even after my 30 timeslot was passed up by him.
I am angry and furious and and livid and every other non explative I can manage for Unilocal…
This is unacceptable, even from a government agency.
This is especially infuriating because gas is such a non issue of a utility. Its basically a tech reading numbers on a meeter and writing down or entering them into a computer. For this I’m going to spend a total of 10 hours waiting, an equivalent of an entire days work, to connect a service that will cost a total of $ 5 a month to use.
And now I have to do this all over again in a few days…
The city of Long Beach should be embarrassed… You have fail your citizens and wasted their tax dollars on a convoluted mess of utility system.

I read all the reviews here and was dreading having to get my utilities here, but I gotta say, my experience has been totally fine. Ok, so their website is not helpful, like at all, and it is annoying that you have to pay all these deposits when you start service, and it’s annoying they give you a FIVE HOUR window and you have to be there to get service turned on and there’s no weekend service… BUT! When I called to set up service, the woman was really nice and accommodating. I called on a Monday and got service on Wednesday morning, which is what I asked for.
The service window was 7 – 12 and the guy showed up around 8:30. He was super nice and friendly, gave me some tips on things i may want to update, showed me how to turn off the gas, and then even climbed up into my attic to check the furnace because my inspection had mentioned something about it. He didn’t rush through anything and he welcomed me to Long Beach, told me some hot spots, and all in all, he was really an excellent technician.
So, I haven’t paid any bills or anything yet, so I can’t comment on that, but so far, I think the complaints here may be louder than the praise, which may not be entirely fair.

Perfect example of the attitude a company takes when it has a monopoly. They give the least amount of time to pay, so if you don’t get your checkbook out the moment you receive the bill, you’ll likely miss the deadline, because in order to avoid their various «convenience fees» you will have to use snail mail. $ 3.75 to pay a bill online is just obnoxious, a similar fee to pay in person.
