Metropolitan Lumber And Harware

Very convenient with a surprisingly good stock for a neighborhood hardware store. I pop in here for any quick apartment fix materials. It’s so convenient to the subway! Very friendly customer service– totally refreshing when compared to big box hardware stores. Also, they give awesome receipts– you’ll see what I mean :)

$ 36.00 for a 50lb bag of salt melt. I’m pretty sure that’s called price gouging. They only get 2 stars since they actually had salt. Both Home Depots were out.

Going back to my roots when I was doign construction. if you are tired os the lack of service at the Big Box stores and you ar ein need of construction material or other hardware, Metropolitan Lumber is the pance for you.

I, too, am surprised by the reviews. Although it’s not as big as the Home Depot on Northern Blvd, I find Metropolitan to be a good go-​to hardware store. I’ve come in for key copies, plungers, painter’s tape, light bulbs, etc.
I’ve found the customer service to be very very helpful and sweet. Even though they might not carry exactly everything I need, they try very hard to find what I do need and help me out. They don’t just point. They escort me to it and answer my questions.
It’s a little old school. Their receipts are like a mile long and there is a funny receipt-​to-​cashier system.
It may not be as convenient as one of those commercial stops, but they are still a good go-​to hardware store.

I have been a customer here for many years, and I am truly surprised by the negative reviews. In my experience, the folks at this Met Lumber location know their stuff and will spend time with you to review what you need to know to make an informed purchase. They are not going to fawn over you, but if you seek out assistance, you will get it. I have also searched their online catalog, called to confirm that they have what I need in stock, and even had someone call me back as an employee went to check the warehouse. I have spent time reviewing options for flooring, stains and electrical wiring options with staff here, and always leave knowing a little more than when I arrived.

I must say I am surprised that people said the service was so bad. I went in here to pick up some sheet metal screws. Someone immediately came and asked me if I needed help, and we went through all the different kinds, sizes, etc. I only needed six screws but the ones I needed came in a box of 50. The guy ended up going in the back and getting me just six and didn’t charge me. I ended up buying some other things to make sure they got a fair deal. I will go back.

Lots of people working here, but that doesn’t mean you’ll get any help. Also, tried to find out via phone whether they carry a product I need, and was put on hold for a v e r y long time. I really want to like this place, but I’m not sure management has any clue what a challenge they make it. On the upside they often have stuff I need so if I wander around long enough I can usually find it.

Horrible service no one offers any help and the store was empty not going back.

needed plywood for a project in my house. tried the manhattan location (see my negative review) and then tried this LIC location. THIS LOCATION IS DECENT, 11TH AVE MANHATTAN LOCATION ARE F*CKING A**HOLES. they must be under different management because workers here were not friendly but at least helpful and gave me advice and helped me decide what my husband and i needed. there was a short wait for the guys to cut my wood down to the size i need.

I sent an email via their webpage [contact us} I never heard back. That speaks volumes.
