Tropical Jerk

if i could have given them no stars that would be what they actually deserve. placed an order thru grub hub at 3:08 said delivery would be around 4:10. called them at 4:15 said the food was on its way but it would be an extra 20 mins ok didn’t like it but whatever. 4:45 comes i’m calling and calling no answer. i call grub hub says they said the food was on its way driver was stuck in traffic. one there is no traffic from there to here. no my coworker calls tropical jerk while i’m talking to grub hub they tell her the order was cancelled because they couldn’t make the delivery time. is this the same order that was supposedly sent out already and that was stuck in traffic i’m confused. so after 2 hours i have no food but a bunch of free grub. this is definitely the last tine ordering from here this place is the worse. unless you can go pickup your food then you will never see it.

Ok ok not all the time but this place is legit! The location may be off the beaten path for some since its located across from the Queensbridge projects so come but be cautious. I use to frequent this place solely for their rice and peas and oxtail.
Food review:
The oxtail rice and peas with steam veggies was always delicious. The oxtail is tender, seasoned well and falls right off the bone. The gravy is just right — not running or too thick. The rice and peas wasn’t dry or over cooked with just the right amount of flavor. And you can’t go wrong with steam veggies.
The jerk chicken I’ve had a couple time but it’s not my favorite. The chicken has flavor but I find Breast meat to be dry.
The fry chicken good as well but not my favorite. I’m not familiar with how this should taste but I like my fried chicken crispy and juicy. Their chicken had flavor, well seasoned and the sauces definitely added a kick to it
Lastly, if you want some authentic, «the real deal» hot sauce please try theirs. I guarantee you will be dry heaving. I love it!

Even after reading the bad reviews. I went to try them out. Horrible customer service! Wish I had the chance to at least taste the food. I placed a order then made a quick run to the atm because unfortunately they only have one payment method which is cash only. As i returned I asked the gentlemen to confirm my order he then told me he forgot. He proceeded to open the order to check. Of course it was the wrong order. The gentlemen was really nasty about the fact that he messed up my order and tossed it in the trash. I then thought to myself maybe that’s where the food belonged from the start!!! May I repeat horrible service.

The best-​selling Jamaican food since I’ve tried tropical jerk. I was told about this place and I finally gave it a try and trust me when I say it’s really quality over everything else. Highly recommended to all and they have reasonable prices which are 3 thumps up!

Food is great. Delivery sucks beyond human comprehension. They didn’t send some of the food I ordered and good luck trying to get in touch with them through that bullshit fax machine contact number.

Their service is terrible! I live in the area and have come here on a number of occasions and stood at the counter for well over 10 minutes before someone even looked in my direction. I have seen more than one employee walk by me without so much as greeting me or telling me they’ll be with me in a few minutes. The menu is well over-​priced, which is particularly painful because I can find way better Jamaican food in Brooklyn or the Bronx for a fraction of the cost with much better service. To top all that off, they are constantly running out of food. So after waiting 15 minutes for someone to take my takeout order, I get told that none of the 2 or 3 things I’d be interested in ordering are available. I am more than fed up with this place. If you drive, take yourself right on over to Melting Pot on Vernon Blvd. Prices are similar but the restaurant is much nicer to eat in and the staff are so much more welcoming and generous with portions. The only decent thing about this place is that they happen to stay open later than most of the other places in the area. Not that that is much solace considering they’ll have already run out of food before they close. Rant over.

This place can’t seem to get it right! I’ve tried this place a few times since I work in Long Island City and everytime we order at work someones order is messed up. My coworker doesn’t eat beef! She ordered a medium jerk chicken and rice white meat only. Not only was she sent strictly dark meat with chopped up bones but they drenched her rice in oxtail gravy that was full of meat! On this same day I ordered a large jerk chicken white meat only with rice and veggie. I also was sent only dark meat. So when we called back in regards to these incorrect orders we got someone named Shane who states he is the head cook and will fix us up properly a complimentary order on Monday since it was closing time on a Friday evening. So we try them again on monday. We get Shane who already has our order ready. They send the delivery guy who now states only one order is to by way of courtesy. We called to complain but we didn’t ask them to send us free food but this Shane guy in an attempt to make things right offered it as a courtesy and we accepted. So I refused the food because again the order still wasn’t right. This is the last time I ordered from this place last week but this is the third and final time they screwed our orders up. If we are ordering something and you don’t have it your supposed to tell us so we have the option of ordering elsewhere if we choose to you don’t just send us anything. Then you don’t attempt to make it right and completely and unapologetically screw things up even more. You guys won’t be in business long doing this type of nonsense when people order from you. if you in the Long Island City area and want Jamaican food your best bet is ordering from The Melting Pot they are alot more honest and if they don’t have something they tell you.

Beside the fact they do take an day or two to deliver, their lunch portion for small size (compare to price) is very very small, which cause the symptoms of cheated, saddness, Un-​happy stomach, etc…
we been order here twice, first time we order the delivery took almost an hr and the half, we think it might be due to recent opening, so we order the second time few days later, which the restaurant clearly try to break it first record, come in 2hrs later…
Here is what I am assuming,
1. They are late because they are waiting for the food to be cooked, so foods can all come at once.
2. They are putting in the magic jerk chicken sauce.
3. Maybe it took bit longer since we order large portion s.
But I guess I was wrong…
1. Only half the order comes after two hrs, the delivery boy didn’t even mention half the order is missing, apparently tips is more important than courtesy. So grab our tip and run, run!!!
2. My sweet, sweet, and hot sauces are missing… Thought that larger portion will come with two, but there is none…
3… If you missing half the order, no sauces, why are you still taking more then 2hrs?
FYI, called the store they don’t know what happen…
