On New Year’s Eve I placed a large order of Chinese food to take out. I requested that no green peppers be included in any of the dishes because I am allergic to them. Upon opening the containers any dish that had vegetables had green peppers in them. I do believe in giving places another chance. On Super Bowl Sunday I ordered 4 or 5 dishes. One was for Sczhewan pork which is a spicy very flavorful dish. Upon getting home I could not find the pork dish. In it’s place was a very bland chicken and vegetable dish. I called the restaurant and the fellow who had taken my order on the phone said he was sorry and I should come in to get the dish I really wanted and would not be charged for it. I was unable to get to the restaurant until the Friday of that week. I called to make sure that they were going to provide the correct dish for me at no charge. The manager got on the phone after I spoke a few minutes with someone else. He said he could not give me the correct dish without a charge. He would give me a luncheon portion instead of the dinner portion I had paid for. I find the kitchen appears unable to provide what a customer wants and pays for. And the manager was not willing to make good on it. Therefore I will never go back to China 88 and just be prepared for errors in ordering and the management not taking responsibility for it.

A New Yorker’s search for decent Chinese food in Longmont continues… Moved to Longmont 8 months ago and have tried a variety of Chinese food restaurants in town: Spicy House, Royal Wok, China Gourmet, Fan’s, etc. and all were mediocre at best(Fan’s probably being the best choice though). We passed China 88 last weekend and decided to give it a shot — called in the following order for pick-up: edamame, crab cheese wontons, chicken and broccoli dinner and moo shu chicken dinner. Pick up time was quick, as Chinese food typically tends to be, but as soon as we got home and opened the bag we realized they forgot the edamame(but they didn’t forget to charge us for it). I’m generally a pretty forgiving person, but this shit irritates me — given the fact that several other reviewers mention forgotten items with their delivery/pick-up orders, it’s clearly a typical practice. In defense to the guy who happened to be working the register that night, he was the only one in there, other than the guy cooking in the back. On a Friday night, with phones ringing off the hook for orders, having only one employee working front-of-house is setting yourself up for failure. To continue, the crab cheese wontons were really good(saving grace for this review) — perfectly fried to a crisp, delicious filling. just wish they could get some legit duck sauce out here; whatever that hot pink slime is at all the Chinese restaurants here is beyond me. The chicken and broccoli was just okay, a few questionable pieces of chicken, but okay I guess. Moo shu chicken was bland, flavorless and just generally unappealing, not to mention the pancakes were stale and hard. They couldn’t even be rolled, just cracked instantly. Two bites, and into the trash. And lastly, the rice. HOWDOYOUCALLYOURSELF A CHINESEESTABLISHMENTWHENYOUCANTEVENSERVEDECENTPLAINWHITERICE? It tasted like undercooked Uncle Bens rice that’s been sitting out on the counter for 3 days. Soy sauce beaded off of it, wouldn’t absorb at all. To say the least, a complete and utter disappointment to a starch queen such as myself. Might try this place once more out of pure desperation… but probably not.

Unfortunately we won’t be back. We ordered fairly simple fair: combo fried rice and orange chicken. The rice tasted burnt, like the grill was dirty. There was very little meat and what was there was stringy. The orange chicken was very hard and over cooked. We wanted to find a place near our neighborhood we could support; unfortunately this isn’t it.

The food arrived promptly but that was the only positive about this delivery Chinese. They didn’t give us one of our orders and the rest of the food was very sub par. Not worth your money

My husband brought me here tonight after he’d tried the food a couple of times. I was assured of very fresh ingredients and wide menu selection, and he was right. He got the peanut curry, which he loved. I got a massive plate of moo shu pork, half of which came home. We dined in, which seems to be not the norm, but that was okay. Service was great. Looking forward to coming back, too.

It’s unfortunate that the previous owners sold this restaurant. Our delivery order was terrible. Seriously how do you screw up fried rice? Don’t recommend.

We just ordered delivery for lunch. It’s not the best Chinese food I’ve had(in Longmont I’d say our favorite is spicy house), but it’s better than most. I hate sweet food, and it’s very rare to find anything on most Chinese menus that isn’t in some sort of sweetened sauce, but the stuff we ordered off their traditional Chinese menu is not sweet at all, so that’s a huge point in their favor. If it wasn’t for that I’d have went with 2 stars. We got shrimp drunken noodles, shredded pork with salty cabbage and green peas, pork fried rice, plain lo-mein, crab cheese and egg rolls. The drunken noodles were a big disappointment, a bit sweet, not at all spicy, not even remotely so, and not very flavorful at all, though, with added sriracha and Chinese mustard my daughter ended up liking them a lot. I didn’t try the lo-mein, but our kids loved it. The fried rice was good, just, not as good as spicy house. The pork with salted cabbage is great, except that the cabbage(which I’m pretty sure is bokchoy) is way overcooked, and smells like overcooked spinach and the peas are really edamame, not peas, but, despite those issues, it tastes amazing, very flavorful, no sweet sauces, and it is completely different from any other Chinese food I have ever had. The crab cheese was considerably better than spicy house crab cheese, but I kinda hate spicy houses crab cheese, the egg rolls were also good, run of the mill takeout egg rolls, but, I happen to like run of the mill egg rolls.

We had gotten one of their menus in our mail and decided to try them out. I’m thinking that they took over China Express. We were really hoping for some great food but our delivery was pretty late which isn’t really what irked us. We understand that stuff happens with timing however the food we received wasn’t appetizing at all. We got 2 pu pu platters but everything was way too over done. Everything that was fried was way over done and the teriyaki beef sticks were way too chewy… like underdone jerky. I got the egg foo young which was greasy and bland even with the dipping sauce and my husband got the black pepper beef was bland. We were also supposed to get a free order of dumplings with our 55.00 order but there were none. I was really disappointed. Won’t be there again which is too bad because we always order a lot of food when we order out.

Do you like having your credit card info stolen? Do you like terrible Chinese food? If so, this is the place for you. I would give them zero stars if possible. After ordering food from them two weeks ago, I am getting phone calls at least once a day asking for the expiration date of my credit card so they can process the charge. The charge cleared the day after I ordered the food. It would be awesome if there was a Chinese restaurant in this town that didn’t try to steal your credit cards. I guess cash only is the way to go with all of them anymore. But this one isn’t even good enough to eat again, so why bother?

A REAL Chinese restaurant in Longmont — with traditional chinese dishes(pork with salty cabbage, ma po tofu with pork, and even one dish without an English translation!) and american Chinese food. We did dine-in and the service, in the late afternoon, was quick and the server checked back on us a few times. The food was precise and flavorful & you could really taste the ingredients — from the fresh ginger in the ma po to the green onions garnishing the dish. The Pork with salty cabbage was heavenly and well seasoned. Can’t find that anywhere else in town! The kids’ had chicken lo mein and pepper chicken lunch specials — both met their picky expectations, too! Generous servings… we had leftovers. We will definitely be back.

The food was so flavorful and fresh! The Owner took our order, was very patient with us and made amazing suggestions based on what we told her we liked. Our large party tried mostly all unique dishes — things we’ve never had off their signature menu, and every dish was so «roll your eyes good,» we ordered extra to take home. My only complaint is they use styrofoam for soup to go containers.

We ordered take out tonight and I have to say our food was delicious. I only wish we had gotten all of and what we ordered. I called and they answered right away. I ordered a pu pu platter, egg drop soup, kung pao chicken, and tofu with black bean sauce. Picked it up and got it home and realized that we didn’t have the teriyaki beef sticks that were supposed to be on the pu pu platter. Then after opening everything else we realized that we had cashew chicken and not kung pao. We did call and let them know that we did not receive some items and the guy on the phone was very apologetic and said that next time we order that they would give us orders of what we were missing tonight. He was really very awesome about it. Honestly after tasting everything we could not complain to much. It was all really good. We will be ordering from here again.

Upon arrival I don’t believe the staff heard me come in. I walked up to the counter and the young man greeted me. I asked if I should just sit anywhere. He asked, «dine in?» They must have a large carryout clientele. I confirmed yes. He arrived at my table with a cup of water just after I sat down. I knew exactly what I wanted despite their thorough and accommodating menu. Only a couple minutes later, he returned with my soup. Very fast. It was not long after he returned with my meal. My food was hot and tasty. It is not a fancy place but is perfect for informal meals with friends and family. Bathroom was clean and staff friendly. I’ll be back with my family next time.
