First of all my two favorite things are a good hamburger and something sweet! And oh my goodness when you walk in and the smell hits you it’s heaven… You will NOT find that smell anywhere else. The goodies are a incentive to get my son to eat. He knows no red velvet if he doesn’t eat. The burgers are just as a burger should be nice and juicy with what ever toppings you choose! This is my special treat place! The bread and buns are like no other!

Great option for dessert cravings — especially their red velvet. We got a birthday cake from here as well which was a hit! They don’t use royal icing for their cakes and commit to their cream cheese frosting so that’s much appreciated. Other good desserts we tried — Kalhua cake, German chocolate, Lemon Dream Cake, Chocolate Fudge, Coconut cake, Chocolate cupcake, Reese’s peanut butter cake, and the Black Forest! I have heard great things about their burgers as well, but I shall leave that for a savory craving day.

I didn’t find anything special about The Butcher Shop but I probably made a mistake by trying to order something that was relatively healthy. I ordered the deli turkey sandwich, which has a fairly small amount of turkey on a fairly large bun. The turkey tasted pretty good but was overwhelmed by the bun. I also got a salad. The salad bar had a decent selection and the ingredients were fine but the dressings were nondescript. Everyone else in our party, as well as most of the other patrons in the restaurant, ordered the fried chicken sandwich with fries. They all seemed to think it was really good. I just didn’t want something that heavy for lunch. Nor did I partake of what looked to be quite delicious desserts. I don’t live in Longview so probably will never have the opportunity to eat at the Butcher Shop again. If I do, it’s fried chicken sandwich and dessert for me!

It was great food but a very rude staff member. As I was getting cheese from the hamburger fixings area I dropped a small single piece of cheese and an African American woman used explicit language towards me saying she just cleaned that spot. Besides that bad encounter it was a great burger.

This place is Longview’s standing great place for hamburgers, chopped steak, and meat. They have an adequate salad bar but the fixings bar for your meat is great. They have everything you could want on your burgers including chili, grilled onions, cheese, all the condiments, pickles, relish, tomatoes, lettuce, everything! We just live the bakery. There are a million desserts to splurge on after you eat or take home in about. We orderKing Cakes there every Mardi Gras season!

Growing up with the Butcher Shop– I have never found a burger joint that begins to compare! When you walk in, the sights & smells can be a bit overwhelming. They sell meat: raw & deliciously cooked. They have a bakery. They have a salad bar & a fixin’s bar. You can watch them cook your food… Side note– they are one of the few restaurants that sell a foot long hot dog. There’s a lot going on in this little place. Every meal here begins with either a bowl of beans, or a bowl of chili. Either way, you can’t go wrong! It’s the best place to have fountain drinks because they have no allegiance and carry both Pepsi & Coke products– so everyone will be happy. Then– your number is called out and you get your food & fix it whatever way that makes you happy. Growing up– I always liked the patio with windows overlooking a big creek/drainage ditch. Now– I kind of like to be in the craziness of the main restaurant. Before you leave– be sure and try something from the bakery. Although everything I’ve had has been good– I have a strong connection with the red velvet cake. Mmmmmm…

We have been here many times over the years with our families. JG score of 5⁄10 when all is good.(+2 for food, +1 for atmosphere, 0 for price, +1 for Diet Dr Pepper, 0 for service and +1 for we seem to always return) Killer«B’s»…When we think of the Butcher Shop we think of the Bakery, the Burgers, the Breakfasts and all the Beans you want. Entrees can vary in quality at times with the burgers and hot dogs and chicken fried steaks coming out from terrific to just okay at times. We like the condiment bar where you can add as much as you want. Breakfast is very good here with all the grease. The bakery and its creations are probably the best known thing here and people seem to drool when this bakery is mentioned. The cookies are large and very good as well as the pies and anything we have tried. The atmosphere is nice to look at with all the old sports references and TV’s but it can get quite crowded and loud at times. I wonder how many people have tripped over those steps in the middle. The bill can be pricey but a good meal here is worth it. They do have fountain Diet Dr Pepper and many other drinks. The service is okay most of the times but they do need help cleaning a lot of those tables faster. Overall, it is usually a good visit.

It’s a no go for me. The French fries were terrible. The burgers were mediocre at best. Nothing says class like preparing your own burger. Thumbs down

I wanted to give 3.5 stars. I have been to the Butcher Shop maybe two dozen times, for the bakery and for the cooked food cariously. The bakery is very, very good. Everything is fresh and tasty. The restaurant part is consistent and I think they use good ingredients. Basic hamburgers, buffalo burgers, and chicken/hot dogs. There is a huge bar of «fixins» The salad bar is just okay. It is for the oddballs(like me) who are with people who eat big burgers. My quibble is that the restaurant is often a little dirty. I don’t think this is the staff’s fault – there are just so many people. Also, even though I have been there so many times, the driveway to the Butcher Shop is right next to another driveway at a bad location on McCann Rd. The bakery is GOOD.

We heard about The Butcher Shop and we thought about getting our Wedding cake here so we went to a cake tasting with Tonya and her cakes were amazing! It was hard to just chose 1 so we chose two Strawberry and vanilla! We had no idea on design and she took the wheel and had some great ideas and we trusted her! She told us what she was going to do but when the cake arrived it was even more WONDERFUL!!! We loved it and tasted even better!!! Without her we would of been lost and with no cake! AND her prices are vary cheap! I thought I’d have to spend 800.00 but it was 350.00! GOSEETONYA!!!

It’s an East Texas tradition, and consistently good every single time, for decades. Tasty burgers, ample fries, and a good fixin’s bar. There’s chili and country gravy, either of which can take their fries to the next level. The Butcher Shop. Been here forever, and worth it every single time.

Had Easter lunch here and was not disappointed. They always do a great job of handling a large crowd. Definitely one f the best burgers in town. I discovered their buffalo burger a few years ago, and have stayed faithful to it. After ordering, your order number to paged over the intercom. The burger comes dry with just the meat and bun, but you can dress it any way you like it at the ‘Fixins Bar.’ Overall, one of The best local joints in town. Try them out, you won’t be disappointed.

Lunch– Definitely the best burger in Longview or the area. Ok, that was the punch line. Buffalo burger every time I come in. Pure. Cooked to perfection. Fresh buns baked there in the store. The fixins’ bar has what you want. Nothing fancy but enough for what a true burger is. Grab a small bowl of beans or chile. Ready. Set. Dig in. Saw a guy in front of me at the bar. He had a tray of fries. He topped it with the chili, some onions and shredded cheese. Why didn’t I think of that? … A. Next trip. The atmosphere isn’t really set up for a bottle of brew but you can get it if you want it. Make this stop a priority.

Definitely a top notch place still. I make it an effort to stop by the Butcher Shop each and every time I am back in Longview Tx. Great value and even better food! The Chicken Fried Steak is phenomenal and the Burgers are always delicious. I am not much of a sweets guy but yes the Butcher Shop is really a true bakery. I definitely recommend this place.

Butcher Shop… beer trough and buffalo burgers. The restaurant has pretty plain offerings. Burgers, chili, baked potatoes, etc. My personal favorites are the chicken fried steak and chicken breast sandwich. The fixins bar lets you pile on as many pickles and onions as you want. They have a pretty great salad bar too, really fresh ingredients, but usually pretty messy. Butcher Shop… a weird name for a bakery In East Texas, Butcher Shop cakes are kinda famous. They’re the best around. Recently, they remodeled the bakery so it’s bigger and cleaner!(I used to work in the bakery many years ago, and it was pretty old and dingy back there. Very happy to see they were able to freshen the place up a bit with the remodel) They have chocolate cupcakes that are to die for, and their red velvet cake can’t be beat. What this place lacks in variety over at the restaurant, they make up for in sweets! Not sure how many people know this, but if you’re having a grillin get together, call The Butcher Shop, and they will wrap up as many burger patties as you want in old fashion butcher paper. Don’t forget to order buns fresh from the bakery and your fixins.

Let me preface this review by stating that I am not much of a beef eater so I did not sample the thick, juicy hamburgers that The Butcher Shop is known for(they did look really good though). I had a turkey burger which was EXCELLENT! Not dry and lacking in taste(as a lot of restaurant turkey burgers are), these turkey patties were fresh and perfectly cooked. I almost forgot that I was eating poultry! Oh, and the fries are fresh as well, but not droopy and soggy like my fries turn out when I try to make them from scratch. These were nice with just the right amount of «bite». The place is set up kind of like Fuddruckers so after you pick up your naked burger, you head to the«fixins bar» to dress your burger up. They also have beans on the bar? I didn’t really understand why they were there but… whatever. The reason that I’m giving them 3 stars is for the chaotic bakery counter. There’s no line, just an amorphous grouping of people near the counter. And there were only like 3 girls working at the front during peak lunch hours. When I was finally forced to ask«how do i get service here», I was met with a blank stare from the staff. And the cookies were not even that good. Way to sweet for me. Just get a burger and keep it moving!
