Matza Ball soup and #1 sandwich. Corned Beef. Zucchini bread. Been going to this restaurant since open, before to the original in Cerritos, South Street Deli. One of my #1 places to eat. Used the catering for years, probably over 40 years. Bakery is excellent. You get what you pay for.

We have big party on the 20th and this place helped us so much. Helping with the design, the lay out, everything! So amazing! I love this place. Didn’t have to do much. Just gave an idea and they have a plan for you. I recommend coming back here. They also have a good breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the family and friends.

Food: corned beef and cabbage dinner Special pastrami(Swiss and Coke slaw) Fried zucchini Strawberry slice cake My mom orders the corned beef dinner every time. The amazing thing is that she finishes ALL of it most of the time. Pastrami is on point. They offer yellow or Dijon mustard. House made pickles are always offered at the start. So good. Fried zucchini is also a favorite and consistent. It comes with a creamy cucumber dip but we also opt for ranch and mix both together. Strawberry slice cake is perfect. Moist and soft with perfect amount of sweetness along with real strawberry pieces.

This is THEBESTBAKERY in the WORLD!!! I have my Ventura friends hooked on it. We all love the Garlic Parmesan bagel slices. They are scrumptious and addicting. The large container costs $ 9.50. The other flavor is cinnamon sugar. One friend says they taste like churros. My Mom loves all varieties of their cheese cake. I love the Crème Brulee($ 2.25) & the amazing Pecan Rolls($ 3.99). Think cinnamon roll with toasted pecans on top. Definitely heat it up in the microwave for 11 seconds. They have a massive selection. Don’t forget to pull a number. It is worth the short wait. I visit my Mom every month. I always stop here on my way home. Mmmm Mmmm good.(That saying is not just for Campbell’s Soup.) ;-D __________________________________________________________________________ I have been to the restaurant as well. It was very good and very busy.

Had a craving for a pastrami sandwich today as I was out running errands. Found this place on Unilocal and decided to stop and pick up some Katella Deli for hubby and I. I called my order in: The Original Pastrami Sandwich, Reuben, and a bowl of Matzo Ball soup. The girl who picked up the phone and took my order was super sweet and had tons of pep. Her name was Christine. She made sure she got all of my special requests down correctly, which was nice because usually when you have special requests at restaurants you can hear the whining in the persons voice. lol. When I picked up the food, Christine again verified that my order was correct. Talk about great service! The Pastrami was on point for both sandwiches. Only complaint I would have is that there was just a little too much sauerkraut on the Rueben. But I just took out the extra and it was yummy. Loved the flavor of the Matzo ball soup and the texture of the matzo ball was pretty good. Definitely coming back again. Hopefully we get Christine to take our order again!

Cute local upscale breakfast restaurant! Came here with my sister and kids, food was amazing and we really enjoyed the menu options. They have a variety of selections for fresh deli, and a really cool bakery with cakes on display. There was one cake that looked like my dog(Maltese) and my niece went crazy for it!!! I love the bakery section… I could get lost in there. Love the staff as well too

My food was good, not delicious but it was enough to have me return and order something different off the menu. The service can be better. My waitress was sort of «robotic». She had no personality at all. The only item that I did love, was a slice of German chocolate cake that I ordered to-go. Now that was delicious!

My boyfriend and I were trying to find the nearest Jewish Deli to us because we were craving white fish, chopped liver, etc. Katella’s was the closest to us with a decent review(compared to others) and… well… They’re really not all that great. I forget the name of my sandwich but it had pastrami and roast beef in it. It honestly didn’t taste like much. I enjoyed their side dish of coleslaw WAY more than I enjoyed that sandwich. I originally wanted white fish salad but it was only at their deli. I don’t know… Compared to San Diego’s DZ Akins, this place was«meh». And I saw people were stoked on the ONE complimentary pickle? Really?! DZ Akins has a bunch of pickles for you to snack on at your table while you wait.

What do you do when you can’t get into Café Orleans or don’t want to go to Disneyland to get your Monte Cristo sandwich fix? Well, head on over to Katella Deli, of course! Service is first rate. Their parking lot is packed and so is the restaurant/deli. We decided to take it To Go so I headed over to a special window just for that. My mom has a sensitive stomach and wasn’t sure she could handle the spices found in their pastrami sandwich. I mentioned this and the lovely Jessica was kind enough to provide a warmed sample. My mom ended getting a corned beef sandwich instead. Thanks J! All of their sandwiches are delicious! The Monte Cristo, though not as sweet as that found at Café Orleans, was first rate. The flavors were there and nicely balanced. The battered crust was just right. The strawberry preserves reminded me of that made by Smuckers which was fine. I do recommend asking for raspberry preserves if they have it, though. The corned beef on wheat and turkey on rye bread were hearty and delicious as well. My mom really liked their potato salad as it was not sour at all. Bravo to Katella Deli and Restaurant. We’ll be back to sample more of your delicious food and desserts the next time we’re in town.

Efficiently run bakery. Take a number. They’ll call you when they can get to you. Grab some items off the help your self shelves, especially those cinnamon sugar bagel chips. They have some nice rolls and breads on that shelf, too, as well as some pre-selected cookie assortments. In the meantime, you can peruse the refrigerated case of all kinds of goodies to throw your diet and sugar levels off. They have lots of varieties of cake slices, rugulach, cookies, cupcakes and the likes. They even have bagels and challah bread behind the counter. Parking can be a bear. If you’re only going into the bakery, snag a 15 minute parking spot in the front.

Katella Deli is one of those popular neighborhood restaurants that locals frequent. I usually come here for their matzo ball soup. Their bakery is also very good, tons of yummy baked goods. They also have a to-go counter if you don’t feel like dining in.

Delicious! Yummy! Authentic tasting matzoh ball soup! Pricey, but worth it. I loved my Reuben sandwich, and the potato salad was delish. Our food took awhile to be served, but it was well worth the wait. My date loved his pastrami sandwich, he said it was very lean. I noticed they have a lunch special on weekdays. It includes a half sandwich and a bowl of soup. I plan on going back for that deal!

Happy New Year!!! I had to provide this update on my latest visit, because quite frankly the service was absolutely terrible. I love the food, and the soup is my favorite, hands down. So it pains me to say that it took about 40 minutes to get served soup on New Year’s Day. We came here for brunch on Friday, and found a seat right away in the bar area. I had to steal flatware from the table next to me, and grab menus from the bar. Finally a server(with glasses) came to take our drink order. Diet coke, please. She came back with 2 small diet cokes, and I pointed to the«lunch special» on the table: a bowl of matzo soup plus a ½ corned beef or pastrami for $ 11.95. She said«only weekdays». Uhhh today is Friday. But its a holiday, she said. OH. Be right back… she disappears for about 15 minutes, comes back and stares at me. OH! The lunch special. Yes. Oh. She disappears for 10 more minutes and said«sure, we can do it». I kid you not, I think half an hour passed and we finally got our half sandwich and soup. The sandwich wasn’t «piled’ high» as I remembered, and the pastrami was quite fatty and thin strips. The soup wasn’t even piping hot, but I was so hungry I ate it anyway. We had to flag her down for a refill and for the check. I still love the food, but the service? Not so lucky for my New Year kick off.

Breakfast is great and the pastries are even better. The only thing is that the coffee is on the weaker side. I’m use to having darker coffee

Quite an operation! This deli has been around for a long time and the management runs it like a well tuned machine. I have eaten here several times and the food is always very good. The bakery goods are wonderful too. During this visit, we decided to sit at the counter rather than wait for a table. Our server was delighful. Standard fare for us. I had matzo ball soup and half a corned beef sandwich. My wife had bagels and lox. Very good though I have to say the bagels here are as good as you can get in CA. Katella is only 30 – 45 minutes away from where I live with no traffic. We have to make the trip more often.

Went here for breakfast this morning. Excellent service and food was awesome. Ate here 10 plus years ago and they haven’t changed, I’m glad! I had the smoked salmon with hollandaise sauce on toast with baby spinach. I was in heaven!

Salt. You’re gonna need salt in half the dishes. In the other half, you’re gonna have to ask them to go easy on the salt. The ambience here is beautiful. That’s outdoor seating, a patio that’s really nice on a sunny day and the inside is dim lighting which is romantic. It’s well decorated with plants everywhere. Ambience wise, this is a really nice date place Customer service was good. I didn’t appreciate how they charge extra for everything like onions. How do you charge extra for onions??? The lady who served us was very nice. She asked the kitchen if they could substitute toast for the potatoes but it couldn’t be done. You could only substitute it for fruit which I also did not understand as to why that was not possible. There’s no room to mix and match at all. What you get on the menu is what you get. Nothing more. They had dishes with eggs and sausages. Very plain dish for $ 10AND it was $ 1.95 to add onions or bell pepper. WHOCHARGESFORVEGETABLES?! Those are things you opt out of. Not pay extra for. I had eggs Benedict with O’Brien potatoes which was basically potatoes with bell pepper and onions. The bread for the Benedict was soggy. When I order eggs Benedict it’s always toasted and crunchy. There was not enough salt to save the taste of it. It was so bland! In addition, I thought it was ridiculous how I could not substitute my potatoes for some bread. I also ordered a side of sausages and man were they plain! There’s was absolutely no taste to it. Again, no amount of salt could save it. With two drinks, corn hash, eggs Benedict and two sad looking sausages, my bill came out to $ 30. I may come back for their dinner but for breakfast? Never again will I pay that amount for such little taste. The one star is there just because I like the ambience.

3 for the food food and dare I say prices and 4.5 for the bakery So I’ve been here a few years ago for breakfast and I recall enjoying that. In between these two sit down visits, it’s been years. In the meantime I would come in just to get chicken soup and pastries. Make sure when you order chicken soup to go, you tell them to add either noodles or rice. I learned the hard way by ordering to go and assuming it came with noodles or rice and when I got all the way home all that was in the soup was broth and chicken WTF! I never heard of chicken soup without a carb o_O. So make sure you ask for either or!
On my second sit down visit, it wasn’t a stellar meal unfortunately. We just picked up my mother from the airport and she was staaaaaaaarving. Both my mother and sister were killing me not letting me know what they wanted to eat right then and there. I knew we always wanted a sit down here so why not. Everyone knows this place is quite old school so I don’t need to give you details on the ambiance. The service that day was ok. I hate sharing servers, it never flows and extra things for your meal always seem delayed because one of the two won’t know that you needed that item. For a place with a million things to choose from I didn’t find anything crave worthy for some reason or what I wanted was stupid expensive. I’m no cheap bastard but certain dishes I choose not to get because the price doesn’t fit the type of restaurant I’m in LOL. I just can’t see myself spending almost 20 bucks in a damn deli eatery. No ma’am Pam! I ordered bagels and lox with a side of pasta salad. My mom ordered the cheese blintzes that comes with a side of fruit, sour cream and jelly. Also ordered a side of bacon. My sister ordered chicken noodle soup. The bagels and lox were decent. Fresh bagel and all the accoutrements that come with a lox bagel. But something was lacking and I wasn’t getting mouthgasms off it. My moms cheese blintzes were more than decent but very heavy. She couldn’t even eat a whole one because it was too heavy for her. My sister loved her soup. That’s one thing that’s always solid and über consistent since I was a kid. I wasn’t to impressed with the bill for such an average meal UGH. Afterwards we went to the bakery and got a shit ton of cookies and treats and for cheap. That’s what boggles my mind. Expensive food menu but way too reasonable treats in the bakery UGH. I will always come back for the bakery, insanely crack zucchini bread and the soup with noodles or rice LOL!!! Expensive meals, ehhhh leave that to next morning dates hahahahahaaha ;)

I’ve tasted so many cakes, cookies and other desserts from Katella Deli when someone would bring the goodies to the office. So, I knew their desserts were delish but how is the deli part? So, a group of us went to have lunch at Katella and when we arrived it was PACKED. It was quite a wait but we were finally seated. The restaurant portion is known for their matzah ball soup and their pastrami/corned beef sandwiches. We ordered: (1) Matzah Ball Soup The texture is like a tamale but has the flavor of chicken since it is sitting in the broth. I really liked the matzah ball… yummy! (2) Reuben Melt My sandwich was grilled to perfection and I really liked my corned beef. However there was too much sauerkraut. The proportion of kraut to the beef was totally off which made my sandwich just«OK». However, I think my onion rings were the best I’ve ever tasted… yummylicious. (3) Pastrami on Rye Hubby’s sandwich was huge and full of meat. He really liked it and the coleslaw. (4) Cheeseburger Sliders Sonny boy liked his entrée which was also served with those great onion rings. (5) Chicken, Bacon, & Avocado Melt My friend’s sandwich was on a brioche bun and served with onion rings. She said she would order it again but ask them to add tomatoes. (6) Bacon, Avocado Cheeseburger My other friend’s burger was also served on a brioche bun and he really enjoyed his lunch. (7) Pickles Pickles taste the best when you’re at a deli… why is that? Well, they were crunchy and tasty. Katella offers yummy sandwiches and great onion rings and their bakery is heavenly. I’m fan … 4 Stars!
