Walked in, I think near closing hour, and was greeted by the friendliest people. They set me up with a delish Italian soda with cream and iced caffeine for the road. Definitely worth the few minutes it took to find them. Prices were very reasonable. They also had gluten free cookies available. Unfortunately I didn’t have time to look around at the art on display.

Highly below mediocre. Have tried to have burger there on no less than 6 occasions apparently the chef closes grill whenever he wants. Super small menu. Of the many times been there it’s like what do you have? usually first 4 choices not available, mind you they have less than 12 sandwiches. There are better choices in Lil LA

Great lunch date with my mom. Delicious sandwiches and great tea selection. The peanut butter sandwich cookies were amazing. Waiters were very attentive and friendly.

Great breakfast, $ 9.00 for a breakfast burrito is kind of pricey though. Good omelets!

Great place for lunch. Had excellent grilled chicken, blue cheese and bacon sandwich special. Topped with a PB cookie(one of a multitude of delicious baked goods avail). Never been to Los Alamos before. Will definitly swing by again next time I’m passing thru. You can also check the adjoining art galleries while your food is prepared.

Terrific spot for breakfast. The chorizo burrito was very tasty. Their hashbrowns are some of the best I’ve ever had.

My wife and I really enjoy this restaurant! The staff is friendly, the food is delicious and they serve the best coffee around! Jesper, the chef, is a master at creating yummy dishes! I love the egg salad sandwich and my wife loves the burger with blue cheese and bacon. The specials are always great and Jesper makes wonderful soups. The café is only open breakfast and lunch, Tuesday through Sunday, so plan your visit. The dining room shares the space with an art gallery, which makes it even more fun!

Nice breakfast place. We had the spinach omelette, vegetable frittata, and pancakes. I loved the omelette as it had goat cheese. Wifey enjoyed the frittata and son offed his pancakes and sausage which is a good indicator that he liked it. The service was good. Our waitress was friendly and they kept me well caffeinated. I would definitely come here again.

I was driving up to San Simeon this past summer and decided to stop at Café Quackenbush for breakfast. I had one of the greatest morning meals of my life here. They have art gallery seating, which is really unique and the windows train out to the main street. It’s really pleasant with the natural light shining softly through. We found the staff very kind, they treated us like locals. I am aiming to drive back up this way in a month and I will specifically take the route I did before just that I might stop here again.

Excellent lunch! We were just passing through this cute little town and had no idea where to eat… So glad we stopped here! I had the pulled pork sandwich with a vinegar coleslaw on top and my words cannot do justice to how amazing this tasted! Highly recommend this sandwich! My husband had the BLT and he was just as impressed with his lunch as I was. We had intended to each have half of each other’s but neither of us wanted to share once we got started! :) Our server was friendly and the service was quick and efficient. We will most definitely be returning on our next trip up the coast.

If you are in Los Alamos, this is pretty much a must-stop. The breakfast burrito is great — had it both mornings we stayed in town. Go with the bacon. Latte was average — too much milk. Store was fun. Art was average, but some of the stories were fun to digest.

This little café is a bit off the beaten path but well worth stopping by if you’re in the vicinity. My wife and I were on our way to Morro Bay coming from LA, when we got a bit hungry and decided to look for a restaurant to have breakfast before continuing. We were looking for a Denny’s off a freeway exit but found none, so we got off an exit that seemed promising for having a restaurant nearby. We then saw Café Quackenbush and decided to give it a try. We got lucky. It was just great! I got the bacon and eggs I was craving and it was incredibly fresh and tasty. My wife’s experience was the same. Excellent. To my wife’s delight, the café is also host to the crafts of various artists. A mini museum/art gallery of sorts. After our meal we strolled around admiring the paintings and crafts on exhibition. Highly recommended on all accounts!

My family and I were in town for a wedding and decided to have breakfast at this cute little restaurant before checking out from our motel on Sunday morning. We were excited because our dining experiences in the area were fairly positive. Sadly, this was a bit of a disappointment. While the atmosphere is charming, the food is only decent. You can get better omelets at places in Solvang and Buellton. The service is also lacking. My family of four was one of the first groups to arrive for the day, and I attempted to ask someone who appeared to be the manager a question about the menu when he came in from the kitchen. He cut me off with a curt«She(the waitress) will help you in a moment.» Oh, okay. Subsequent service from the other staff was only alright, not attentive and warm enough to make up for the nice welcome. I wouldn’t recommend this place, unless you have no better options for a meal at the moment.

Favorite breakfast place. Great coffee, baked goods, & my favorite breakfast is their Bagel & Lox plate. Very casual, friendly, welcoming, attentive, helpful service. Quiet, serene atmosphere perfect for reading the morning paper while sipping fresh coffee or visting with friends.

Horrible service. HORRIBLE We stayed at the Union Inn Saturday night, had dinner at Full of Life, and a few drinks at Babi’s. Everyone in Los Alamos was so helpful, accommodating, and welcoming until we arrived at Café Quackenbush. Please keep in mind that the restaurant was NOTBUSY during our visit. Half full at best. No one seemed to be in an rush. We walked in and waiting in the main entrance and were passes by two different services three times before I had interrupt as she walked past with without eye contact. I asked if it was self seating and the response was an «ummm yeah» over her shoulder as she just walked away. We got our own menus and sat at a table. In the next 15 mins(I checked the time on my phone as we waited) the servers who worked that section walked in and out at least 4 times. We were never greeted, never offered water. We were completely ignored. Finally we got up and left. I have no idea if their food is good or not. I will defn return to Los Alamos, but will never patron this restaurant. The staff simply could not care less that we were there.

Our favorite detour off of Highway 101. I enjoy eating on the patio on a nice day with a view of the historic buildings, or among the artwork inside when on cooler days. I keep coming back for their roasted pepper salad served with tapenade and their flavorful homemade balsamic. Ask for toasted bread on their roast beef sandwich. They had just run out of their salmon salad, but the people at the next table raved over it. We knew how good it was from our previous visit. Maybe next time. The servers are friendly, wine and beer choices are good, and they have awesome fresh brewed iced tea. Don’t miss their bakery selections. And don’t miss John Wayne in the bathroom!
