Rumored as the new place that carried on the tradition of the previous owners«Famous» meatball sub, I finally went in to check out what it was all about this weekend. When we first walked in I was immediately impressed with how clean and neat and organized everything was. Almost like a restaurant display showroom for chips, condiments and beverage options. The décor was a bit of a mish mosh of styles, but definitely friendly and inviting. The man working the counter was also very friendly and being that we were the only customers in the joint when we arrived they made us feel very welcome. We then ordered the subs and waited at our table. My dining companion had to run down the street, so I was alone for about 5 minutes and the guy working there came over twice to make sure I was all set and taken care of. I thought that was sweet. Then the food arrived and it was time to try this sammich. It didn’t really look like much to type home about, but the bread was very soft and that’s a good thing in my eyes when you are merging sauce with cheese and meat and bread. I took a bite and it was good. Personally I thought the balls of meat were a tad on the bland side, but I will also throw in that when I make any type of Italian fare I like my sauce a very specific and super spiced up way, SO most restaurant middle of the road sauces fall a bit short on my opinionated palate. So take this review with a grain of salt and a pinch of oregano. The one thing I thought a bit odd was the pairing of tortilla chips with a meatball sub. I’m all for fusion, but tortilla chips? Hmm. Overall, it was a good sammich and I would actually go back again and try it when the cook from the old place is working. Apparently he stayed on when they sold the place, so I will revise after I try his version, but for now, know that it is a totally decent place to grab a bite and there are 3 spaces in the back so check there before you circle the block aimlessly as parking can be a real female dog in that area :)
