Amy is the best! When I first moved to LA I had a very hard time finding a hair stylist. I bounced around from salon to salon for months. My hair is full of cowlicks and crazy growth patterns, and nobody seemed able to figure it out. I finally found Amy on one of my random crapshoots. Flash forward a few years and I wouldn’t even think of going to someone else. Somehow she pulls off the miracle every time. She is an amazing stylist and a delightful person. Reliable, professional, kind, very experienced and knowledgeable about her craft, gifted as an artist. The new Silverlake location is great because there’s off street parking adjacent to the Valero gas station. Easy peasy. Salon is around the other side of the building.

Expensive, and quite honestly not that skilled. She was great at keeping my hair length because I specifically told her I just wanted some layers, and perhaps cut off a bit of split ends, so she preserved my length and was careful which I appreciated but for the price I paid… i expected something better (more styling, thinning, shaping). She literally cut straight ends on some parts of my hair. something I could’ve easily done myself at home. Wouldn’t recommend.

Just moved to the area and THANK holy shit balls I found Amy. Thank you Amy, I love my cut seriously! Found my new LA stylist!

Amy has been my hair stylist for +5 years now and she’s always given me the best cuts.
She’s great at angular, non-​symmetrical cuts that look punk but can be styled work appropriate.
Amy also gave me my pre-​wedding haircut which I appreciated so much. I was running around like crazy the week before and Amy made time to visit me at my house to give a timeless, classic cut perfect for the occasion.
I’m always recommending her to others especially the week after a fresh cut when everyone’s asking where I got it.

I love the cut I got from Amy Hu! I waited much longer then I should have to cut my hair because I REALLY wanted to grow it out and I was tired of my stylist cutting my hair way shorter then I asked for. But Amy told me she would make my hair look great and it would look like she hadn’t even touched my length. I didn’t really believe her at the time but I went for it knowing I’d at least have a better hair style by the time I was done.
I couldn’t believe the end result! She was right! My hair looked great! And it looked the same length as before! How is that even possible?! My husband (a long hair lover) was thrilled with the results as he too has experienced my multiple visits to the hair stylist that left me with way shorter hair then before. I will never use another stylist!
I then decided to have her cut my 5 year olds hair. He’s a boy and I always keep him nice and trim. It turned out so much better then ANY haircut he had ever received and I have tried several different salons including different children’s salons. Because of the price I went to a different salon a couple of times after his first hair cut with her. But those visits just made it clear to me that Amy offers quality work that last. So Amy now receives visits from my son and I on a regular occasion.
Thank you Amy! I know in your hands I will finally get my hair to the length I have been working so hard to reach! And you keep my son looking soooo handsome! I love your work!

I recently went to Amy Hu to have my hair highlighted and cut after a disastrous home job and she made me look beautiful again! Amy brought my hair back to a healthily beautiful golden blonde along with an adorable layered cut. I love her work and will go to no other.

I’ve been getting my hair cut here for the past 6 months or so. Before coming here, I just went to whatever else Unilocal said was good and it was ok. But it was only after coming here that I actually started getting compliments for my haircut which was kind of cool.
I’m usually the guy that goes in not really knowing what I want, but Amy was really good about asking what I do, what kind of product I use, if there’s an upcoming event I need to prepare for or something, what I’m trying to go for etc. So she basically made something out of nothing.
Plus there’s a free clean up cut within two weeks. That’s kinda awesome.

Amy is a favorite of both my wife and I! She does a great job with both my short hair, and my wife’s long hair. In fact, my wife wanted to donate her hair to cancer patients, and Amy had suggestions as to which ones were the best. We not only consider Amy our favorite to cut our hair, she is truly a friend indeed!

This is my second cut with Amy and I am nothing but extremely happy with my results. Not only did she give me an amazing pixie cut my first time with her, but also an awesome Bob now that I am growing my hair out. Love the advice and styling tips that come along with getting your cut. Nothing short of excellent. Thanks Amy :)

I have purchased the Unilocal deal so pricing wasn’t too bad. As parking wasn’t the most pleasant experience at Downtown LA, it is still manageable. Amy described herself as have «OCD in Hair-​styling» and you can see how focused she is, and enjoying at the same time. She would ask you what kind of style you want, to be «on the edge» or «conventional», and she would explain very clearly how the difference between those that she has in mind. I would trust her with my hair and will go back to her when I am back in the area.

I am sure Amy is a great stylist but I give her one star for her professionalism. I was very excited to get my hair done by her especially with all the great reviews and even cancelled my prior personal plans to meet her. I confirm my appointment with her that morning and showed up early to the salon. However, she never showed. She texted to say she will be late bc her car is blocked by her roommate and I waited for her for 45 minutes. I even let her know that I was leaving the salon, which she did not reply. I tried to reschedule with her the next day with condition that I can meet her after hour, and again she failed to reply. One good part about this experience was that I ended up getting my hair down by Christian King, who was professional and very skillful. I never post anything on Unilocal and this is my very first post with low rating. However I think the viewers should be aware that they are better off going to another talented hair stylist in this town with much better professionalism.

I recently got a fantastic cut by Amy, she was able to give my long hair great layers and body while keeping the length. I have been to many a hairstylist and this is no easy task to accomplish. She also cut bangs for me that are manageable and super cute, my fiancé said this is his favorite haircut on me. Can’t say enough good things about Amy, I will definitely be coming back!

Amy Hu is THE BEST hair stylist I have ever been to! She is not only very attentive to details, she also takes the time to clarify and make sure the client and she are on the same page. She also provides great recommendations on how to improve hairstyles. Her sense of humor is icing on the cake. She works wonders with color, can recover any hack-​job done by other hair stylists into a marvelous success, and she really shows her passion for working with hair. She is wonderful to chat with, and is also comfortable with silence if you’d rather sit and think/​read/​whatever.
I recently came to her with a terrible haircut and a dye job that went wry. She worked with me and completely recovered my damaged ends, gave a flattering hair cut, compensated for bangs cut too short, and created a stunning highlight and ombré look for me. Amy knows her stuff regarding the chemistry behind the scenes, so trust her with your hair – you won’t regret it!

Amy has been cutting my hair for more than 2 years. With her recent move to Industry, it seemed high time I finally left a review!
Amy is a confident stylist who I came to trust very quickly after meeting her. She listens carefully and often makes suggestions that reveal that she understands what I’m talking about better than I do. My hair is thick and badly behaved – full of cowlicks. The first time Amy looked at my head, she joked, «I bet you’ve had a lot of bad haircuts…» Not only has Amy tamed this mess, she also knows how to cut it so that the hair continues to look good as it grows in.
One thing I really appreciate about Amy’s style is that she always asks me what I have going on in the next month and suggests changes appropriate to various social engagements or presentations for work. Now when I have something important on the horizon, I am sure to schedule an appointment with Amy to get my hair situation sorted first.
Side note for fellow Echo Parkers reading this review: Amy’s new home at Industry is very easy to access by public transit. Both the 2 and 4 buses that you see on Sunset Blvd. every 10 minutes will drop you off on 8^th St. right near the salon. I’m a bus rider but there are also plenty of parking spots and a number of cheap lots right nearby. (Plus, it’s a good excuse to make the easy alley-​oop afterward from Industry to Spring for Coffee.)

Amy is a genius with men’s hair. She always makes me look good.
Nobody has done as good a job with my hair as Amy.
Her new place downtown has a cool, modern vibe and the space is huge.
On top of it all, she’s a doll!
I’m a fan for life.

I’ve been going to Amy for about two years now and have always walked away feeling great about her work. Her new home at Industry is rad! As a guy, I highly suggest you let her work her magic on you.

Amy has been cutting my hair for some time now and i have never walked away with a bad haircut. I would follow her anywhere.

I’ve been with Amy for a year now, and I am SO glad!
I grew up going to a Korean salon in Koreatown and once they mangled my hair (never ask a Korean for an «ombré» dye), I up and left. For a couple months I floated around to a couple other stylists until I reached Amy. I never looked back.
I have short, Asian hair and I’m very particular. She does an amazing job of listening and running with your ideas, or thinking of ideas herself after understanding your personality. Very fluid and fun to chat with, I have absolutely no problem giving her five stars. I leave that salon happy and excited every time.
Oh, and the new location? Awesome. Very easy-​going aura as well as a very metallic, structured interior. Very DTLA and worth the drive.

I am SO glad that Amy found a new home at Industry. The space is unbelievably gorgeous! It’s very spacious and luxurious. The design is very, well, just like the name says, industrial. It’s all reclaimed wood and steel and cool lighting.
Actually, Amy told me that the lighting was specially designed for cutting and coloring hair, and I can believe it. I have been going to Amy for a few years now, and that girl can cut some hair, but seriously, this most recent haircut is the best I have ever had!
I have problem hair (frizzy on top, straight on bottom, never takes color or cuts the way they say it’s supposed to in the book) and she not only has a sixth sense for what to do with it, she also always goes the extra mile to make sure that it is perfect.
She also really stays on top of the trends and makes sure that I’m ahead of the curve. For example, a couple of years ago, she not only gave me a feather extension but also told me when it was time to for that feather extension to go.
On top of all that, Amy is a really awesome person. Sweet, funny, chill… She really knows how to walk the line between making conversation during a cut and being comfortable and not awkward with just focusing on her work while you relax.
I almost never leave Echo Park if I can avoid it, but I am definitely willing to follow Amy to Industry. It’s worth it.
