*** The best exhibit @MOCA that I have ever seen. *** Arshile Gorky is an amazing Armenian-American artist. Much of the work shown in this exhibit reminds me of the stylings of Joan Miró also mixed with a lil Pablo Picasso. Gorky was an artist of that magical era … the early 1900s. A friend once jokingly told me «my people are tragedarians», when she referred to Armenian culture. This exhibit definitely tries to shed some light on that perspective. The narrative of Gorky’s life does read like a tragic tale in its beginning and in the end, but he seemed to find some levity in the middle. I am particularly fond of his colorful abstract works where he seamlessly blends multiple shades of oils in way that virtually resemble watercolor, then paints whimsical outlines over top. His black ink drawings are also quite amazing and detailed. *** The Arshile Gorky exhibit is undoubtedly a must see. ***
