Yummy Thai desserts! Love their crepes(yellow one is better in my opinion because it is sweet vs orange one has a distinct smell which I do not like). Pangchi(coconut, taro, and corn treat) is my favorite because it is not overly sweet. Definitely stop by this place after eating at one of the restaurants in the plaza. Don’t forget to check in for 1 free crêpe!

Always love Bhan Kanom Thai. We went in after dinner@ Ruen Pae. We bought crispy crêpe, Pineapple pie, crispy yam and few more. We love everything… We shall return every time we are in LA! We were hoping that the pie was fresher. My mom said they didn’t make them there, more like boxed from Thailand. Oh well! Still enjoy my Thai snacks at Bhan Kanom Thai.

such a fun, authentic thai dessert shop! in a busy shopping plaza so best to find nearby street parking. it’s clean and they have lots of packaged goods(mainly from thailand, a few from japan) but the must-check-outs are their fresh desserts. when you walk in on the right wall there’s a list of the top desserts and towards the back there are photos with the names of items. we got the thai tacos(free one with check-in, loved the sweet more than the salty), pang chi(chewy taro and corn cakes), and kanom krok(chewy banan cake). we also grabbed some pandan candy, durian and sticky rice, and seaweed lays chips as well as mango slushy with boba(fresh bobas, nice flavor but kinda small portion). friendly and helpful young staff, fun little adventure that’s a must-stop if you’re in thai town

Brace yourself for a very long review. My aunt mentioned that this place was very famous and popular on tv? Which I have never seen. I have heard of this place, via Unilocal. But, didn’t think much of it a few months ago. Since she was in town, she said she HAD to try it. She LOVES taro and coconut, which a lot of their selections contain it. We bought quite a lot of things. But, they are all reasonably priced. The entire store is filled with a bunch of goodies to choose from, imagine a giant candy store with a lot of unique things. –Pangchi: Taro, coconut, corn rice cake type thing –Thai tea custard: The thai tea flavor is there, but more of a caramel flavoring –Kanom Kok: coconut rice cake –rice cake with coconut: Look for a green ball in a coconut cup –Crispy crepes: There’s two different flavors. –kao torm mut: Sweet rice with either taro or banana wrapped in a banana leaf –Pandan custard roll: pandan custard wrapped in a crêpe roll –sticky rice(without the mango) –orange cake like thing with coconut shavings –Taro custard– giant square box, looks like a crème brûlée topping. Overall, I would say that the first thing i tried was the Pandan custard roll and it was made fresh! It was probably my favorite dessert! if i do decide to come back, i think i would stick with this and maybe try something else. If you’re a HUGE fan of coconut, taro, or pandan. THISISTHEPLACE.

My sweet heaven on earth! They have exactly what I need when I crave for Thai sweets. I wish I lived closer otherwise I would go everyday. I’m not quite sure what the desserts are called but everything tastes so delicious. Must try everything!

If Thai desserts are your thing, this is the place for you in Los Angeles! It has everything you can think of when it comes to Thai desserts… Mangoes, bananas and coconuts. My favorites are none of those… I love their hot dog buns, spicy dried squids and Thai iced tea with boba. I know weird, right? The price is reasonable and staff are friendly. The kanom Tokyo is simply divine here! Just like home(home #2 that is). And, they have it everyday. They also make roti sai mai on site here. The amount that they give is minuscule compared to back home. But, it tastes good. And it’s totally worth it. It’s a darn good thing I don’t live close to this place. Otherwise, my waistline would get bigger.

Disclaimer — this is my first time trying Thai desserts. I think this place is awesome! I get the ice, where you get to pick the gelatinous goodies that go in — up to five. Then they pour some flavoring over it. After a lunch at Ruen Pair I can only eat half at most, it is such a large serving. There are so many goodies there it is hard to choose and so far all has been yummy! They have this lightly sweetened rice cracker that is perfect for afternoon coffee or tea.

Bhan Kanom Thai(house of Thai desserts) is located in a small plaza that seriously has only 5 spots and the rest is valet, what in the world.(Well at least it’s only $ 2 to valet your own car). The employees greet you in Thai when you walk through the door and your eyes immediately start bouncing around to see what they have. This store has a lot of desserts that stem back to my childhood when I was in Thailand. I wish their Kanom kok are made to order(the traditional) way but it is still soft and warm the way they have them. Their coconut pudding is also served in a flower shape tin which makes it somewhat hard to eat but still delicious. The prices are a bit steep compared to Thailand, obviously. Still a great place to come check out and try new things. Wish it was closer to me!

It’s a small store selling Thai desserts and some imported chips. I love Thai food and I’ve only had mango and sticky rice for dessert, so I was excited to try some new items. I ordered the pang chi, the Thai crispy crepes and a sticky rice with taro. I was most excited for the crepes but the pangchi turned out to be the best! It was soo addicting good! It’s a small taro and coconut cake with corn. It was slightly crispy and similar to sticky rice consistency. The sticky rice with taro was the best sticky rice I’ve ever had. It was sweet and soft and the taro mixture was delicious. The Thai crepes were okay, crunchy and sweet. The prices were affordable and they open late! If you’re in Thai town, come by and get some pangchi! Thank me later.

This review is strictly for the ice cream which was absolutely fantastic! After getting some Thai food we were delighted to find out that right across was a place filled with desserts, baked goods and ice cream! They seem to have a lot of Asian desserts although I was not familiar with a lot of them. My partner and I walked over to the ice cream case right away. There is a parking lot but because the plaza is full of Thai restaurants and related stores, it can be pretty crammed to park. There are surrounding neighborhoods that are close by enough. You can street park and then take a small stroll. They had flavors such as green tea, red bean, lychee, taro, coconut, mango, and strawberry. Although taro was very enticing, I was interested in the lychee. I have never had lychee ice cream before but I love the fruit so I thought it would be fun to try. There are three sizes here. You can get a small with one flavor, a small that comes with two flavors, or a large of two flavors. My partner got just red bean, while I got green tea and lychee. The portion size of the two were similar so I am happy that they give just as much when you get just one flavor. The ice cream was so creamy and not overly sweet. Green tea was perfection as always. The lychee was really something though. It tasted just like the fruit and it had pieces of lychee jelly(like the topping in milk tea) all throughout! The red bean was also not overly sweet and had little pieces of red bean throughout it. The ice cream was the perfect way to end lunch. For our ice cream it was $ 6.50. The girl working there was very friendly and sweet to us. If I’m ever in the area again, I know that I’ll be going back for some more ice cream!

Hallelujah for this place. Parking is confusing to me. It looks like it’s valet, which it sort of is, but it’s free? Why don’t they just self park? I don’t get LA. I cheated and parked in a back lot next to the world’s smelliest dumpster and the valet guy said don’t do that next time because they’re supposed to park for me. ANYWAY. The store is jam packed with Thai goodies. They have your beloved kao niao ma muang(my janky way of trying to say mango sticky rice), kanom krog(those coconut soft pillowy things), chips and any snack you can want, those gelatin things that I love and forgot the name of… the list goes on, but I don’t remember any of the names. I would recommend this place for anyone who wants to try something different than you may have had before, something you miss from Thailand, or if you just love eating darn good sweets. The people here are nice and friendly and secretly reminded me that somehow my Thai got worse, which I already thought it was rock bottom, but they couldn’t understand my terrible accent so I switched to english with much sadness. Highly recommend! Ask questions and try everything, share with friends, and be happy.

I was rather disappointed when I went there last week. My 3 kids(ages 9, 4 and 3 months) and I were visiting from out of town from Virginia. I was super excited to go to this place but soon to discovered that from the way this place look on the pictures that people posted on Unilocal and the actual store are so different and the people that works there were rather rude to us. They have many variety of snacks and desserts some of which my children haven’t seen before, my 4 years old daughter grabbed one of the containers which contained desserts was told not to touch it. They do not have baskets, so if you are buying more than 2 snacks/desserts, you’ll be stacking it on top of each other. Another major down fall is that they only accepts cash. Parking is nearly non existed. I think I will just stick to ordering online. I don’t know if I would go to this place again.

This is a great Thai dessert shop located in a Thai Plaza with lots of other Thai restaurants like Ruen Pair. Parking should be easy during the daytime at night its valet for this plaza or street parking. This is a MUST stop if in Thai town, especially if you have a sweet tooth for some authentic Thai dessert snacks. Credit/debit cards accepted with a minimum of $ 5.00 purchase. They have so many selections to choose from but it can get a bit overwhelming if you are not familiar with Thai desserts. I would love more guidance on deciphering what to order because everything is so unfamiliar a picture menu with descriptions of ingredients sure would help. There is so much more I have yet to try here, most everything is pretty reasonably priced which allows you to venture out and try something new every time. My favorites so far: *Grilled Banana Leaf wrapped Sticky Rice with Taro 5 stars $ 1.50 each This is probably my favorite dessert here that I have tried. If you love the flavor of Coconut milk, sweet sticky rice, and taro you will love these. When you unwrap the grilled banana leaf wrapped dessert held together at the top and bottom with toothpicks, it takes a bit of care as the outer leaf can break a part a bit due to it getting dried out in the grilling process(I recommend not doing this in a moving vehicle, especially if you are driving). Once unwrapped you will find a dessert gem of an approximately 4 inch long by 2 inches in diameter compacted somewhat dense but soft held together mass of sweet sticky coconut milk flavored sticky rice filled with taro paste. The taro filled«rice log» is held together, soft, sticky to the touch, sweet and absolutely delectable. I always get a few extra to eat the next day or so, these are served warm and are a real treat. They also sell a steamed version which is a bit softer and has some type of black bean added to the taro paste, it is still good but I prefer the grilled version myself. *Ice Cream 5 stars $ 32 scoops Taro, Coconut, Lychee, and several other flavors, stellar creamy ice cream and unique tropical flavors, we always get at least one to share, they allow you to choose 2 different scoop flavors per cup. *Kanom Krok 5 stars $ 3 for a box of 6 This is what lead me to the dessert shop after learning about this light and airy golden hued Thai dessert filled with sweet coconut milk about 1 ½ inches round. There were so many late nights I came in looking for this and they were always sold out. I later found out that they make this between 12 pm and 4 pm and they sell out by late night, but if you call ahead they will put some on hold for you. Sweet, rich and light. Panchi 4 stars one Free with Unilocal Check in 6 for $ 3 Taro and shredded coconut patties, purple in color studded with corn, sweet grilled patties. Will be back to try more and pick up my favorites!

This Thai dessert shop has lots of sweet treats from packaged goods to desserts made in-house including tempura taro/sweet potato/banana, custards, layered cake, and mango sticky rice. The pangchi(fried taro with corn & coconut) was my favorite! There’s also boba drinks and a refrigerated section with bottled drinks. Bhan Kanom is in a plaza with a few restaurants including Red Corner & Ruen Pair — a great dessert spot to visit after a meal.

Brings me back to Thailand!!! The pangchi aka small purple bites of chewy goodness full of texture are addicting! They are such a good deal where I can eat a bag or two of these. I definitely recommend the crispy crepes too! The savory crepes(darker orange filling) was like tom yung goong in a tiny crêpe form, which was interesting but I will most likely get the sweet crêpe which had a floral flavor. Even if you are full, you can still fit these in. So do it!

Taro ice cream was so yummy, more flavorful than yogurtland’s taro, as expected. I bet the other flavors would be just as delightful. They have my favorite KitKat green tea. I got the free piece of Pangchi and it was good. So many snacks and sweet delicacies to choose from! Perfect after dining from a Thai restau. :)

Pang Chi… What’s that? It’s a taro coconut corn pancake. Talk about delicious. Along with Pang Chi, what’s good here are the fried bananas, kanom krok, and mango with sticky rice. Kanom krok is grilled coconut milk. You can also find ice cream with Asian flavors here(taro, lychee, etc) and an assortment of rice desserts and cold and warm pudding. The bakery/store is a tight space with an assortment of merchandise all over the place. Bhan Kanom Thai which means House of Thai Desserts is located in Thaitown(East Hollywood) in «U» shaped strip mall full of Thai eateries. It doesn’t get more authentic this is place outside of Thailand. Most definitely worth a visit if you love Thai desserts. Service here is very friendly and the bakery is typically packed with people. Parking is difficult though there’s valet.

Despite being a taro fan all my life, Bhan Kanom Thai is where I discovered the many ways to have taro and taro sticky rice: Pancake style: These small greasy pancakes called Panchi were made with taro, coconut and corn. These yummy bite size snacks had light taro flavor and quite tasty as they were served warm. Grilled($ 1.25): Sticky rice with a sliver of taro filling at the core grilled with coconut infused sticky rice that was wrapped in banana leaves. The taro flavor took a backseat to the heavy infusion of coconut with delicious sticky rice to bring it all together. It was good, but not the best in the house. Steamed($ 1.25): It’s the same construct as the grilled version with unsweetened red beans added to the mix at which was steamed in banana leaves. The taro flavor was desirably stronger in this rendition with red beans to add texture to the coconut infused sticky rice. I highly recommend it. Chilled($ 3): Thick, fluffy semi-sweet coconut layered with taro on top of sticky rice served chilled. The taro flavor was outstanding to couple with smooth coconut and a bed of sticky rice which was hardened but still very tasty. Fellow Unilocaler Lei B and I both agree that this was their best taro dessert in the house. Frozen($ 2.50/one scoop): With a sizable mix of taro and coconut flavored ice cream that was thick, stiff, and delicious but could be creamier. It wasn’t the best taro ice cream I’ve had but I’m still a fan. In addition to the taro desserts, I also tried their Crispy Pancakes($ 2.50 for 7) which encompassed a razor thin fortune cookie-like exterior glazed with coconut cream with yellow garnishes that provided a unique chrysanthemums flavor. It was light and not overly sweet, perfect for anyone who just had a heavy meal but still craving dessert. I also bought a packet of Taro Fish Snack which was only taro by name but the barbeque flavored dried fish was one of my favorite childhood snacks of all times. All taro desserts were so new and yet I was very much in my element. Fellow Unilocaler Lei B has been telling me about Bhan Kanom Thai for almost a year so it was a blast to share the moment with her and awesome Unilocalers who were with us: Dee D, Mark L, Shelly J, Sheley L, and Anthony N. Minor limitations to note were the striking similarities in the taste and texture of taro across their dessert items, and ways in which flavors were dependent on the existence of coconut cream which could be redundant or addictive depending on how you look at it. On the other hand, I have yet to see a Thai grocery store that is open late till 2am, accepts credit card payments, and carries such an extensive array of taro desserts. Service was patient and friendly as they did their best to address our questions that were difficult to translate culturally and linguistically. Overall, it was a Unilocalalicious experience that has since made me a fan. I would love to return to this tiny grocery store which is jammed packed from wall to wall with sugary dried snacks and freshly made items at every turn. I was in taro heaven!
