This food was so good that it’s the first time I’ve ever written a Unilocal review. The Blue Window is owned by the same people and directly next to Mud Hen Tavern. It’s take out and standing bar eating only. I was so hungry that I convinced my boyfriend who wanted to do take out that we were eating it right there. The food was so good we didn’t even mind we were standing. The woman who worked there, Darah, was super sweet and friendly. She asked everyone’s names who ordered, was very enthusiastic about the food and ready with suggestions. I got the vegan Potstickers, vegan Jackfruit Bao and vegan Stuffed Tempura. My boyfriend got non-vegan chicken wings, the same vegan Jackfruit Bao and a watermelon salad. Don’t judge us… Everything looked so good and only $ 7 per entrée. The watermelon salad was $ 5. We also got two jasmine iced teas which were delicious! The Potstickers were the best potstickers I’ve had in my life, no joke! It seemed like they had some sort of coating on them that gave them more flavor than most. They also came on a bed of sweet potato sauce which was unique and amazing! The Jackfruit Bao was crazy good. I’ve never had Bao before since I’ve been vegan for so long. This was something I’ve been missing out on! The bun was the perfect combination of crunchy baked on the outside and soft steamed on the inside. The jackfruit was seasoned perfectly and the sauce was awesome! The Stuffed Tempura was my least favorite thing I had, but still good! The flavor was interesting and it took me and my boyfriend a second figure out if we liked it. We both decided we liked it but preferred the other things we got better! The wings looked delicious but I can’t vouch for them since they were meat! I’m going to try the vegan ones next! The bf said they were overcooked but the sauce was good. Maybe the vegan ones will be cooked just right next time. I don’t love watermelon so the salad was a little too much. If you really like watermelon this would be your thing! Can’t wait to come back for more! Also this place is super cool because they switch the menu every 6 months to a whole new concept. Can’t wait to see what they come up with February 2016. I’ll probably miss the potstickers and Bao though! **UPDATE** We just tried the new«Junk» menu! I had the vegan beef cheddar melt and my boyfriend had the non-vegan version. They were both delicious and my boyfriend said, «Anyone who wouldn’t like this sandwich is crazy.» We also shared the salad and falafel battered onion rings. The salad was a great portion and had a wonderful mix of veggies. The onion rings were so unique and the flavors were perfect together! We were extremely happy to find that they have stools now. The only reason my boyfriend ever gave for not wanting to go was that he didn’t enjoy standing and eating. The only thing left to improve would be getting heaters!

The potstickers were delicious and well portioned. Unfortunately, the ahi poke was my least favorite, though generously portioned all around, it was too salty and I found the pink peppercorn to be overwhelming. To balance out the sodium and flavors, serving this over rice would have made a positively huge difference. Subsequently, I am hoping to try the wings before their Asian Fusion menu ends this week. I also look forward to seeing what theme they’ve cooked up with for their next menu. Value wise, without knowing the quality of ingredients used(eg, organic, wild caught, etc) the items tasted and appeared fresh but are on the pricier side for à la carte and take-out only. The two items I ordered was more than enough food for a one person lunch.

Not even slightly exaggerating when I say this was probably the most satisfying, flavorful, Asian vegan meal I have ever had. I got the bao, potstickers and veggie chicken wings. I’m beyond blown away. Can’t wait for the next menu. Keep it up!

So happy I went here! I had an hour to kill before a class and was getting gas at the 76 on the corner, felt a rumble in my tummy, and decided to hop on Unilocal and see if there was something vegan nearby. Can’t believe this was just steps away! I drove by it at first and then came around the block the second time and realized, oh, it’s literally a blue window! Dara was at the window and she was the sweetest ever! She helped me decide what to eat(we settled on the Jackfruit Bahn Mi – it was delicious) and chatted with me while my food was being prepared. Seriously, the food was awesome, but her chipper friendly personality was the cherry on top. Give that girl a raise! They’re changing to a whole new style of food in February, can’t wait to see what it’ll be, and I’ll have to come by before then to try the rest of this menu before it goes away!

After hearing rave reviews for Blue Window, I went in(or went up, as it’s just a small takeout window) with high hopes. I tried the banh mi, hot wings, bao, and potstickers(all vegan versions). Everything came in a puddle of oil. It reminded me of the amount of grease you’d get on some low-quality takeout Thai food. I couldn’t distinguish the amazing flavors everyone seems to experience here, because all I could taste was a thick mouthful of oil. The hot wings had the most potential. I know not all vegan food is healthy, and I love me some vegan junk food, so my disappointment here is not because I’m some kind of green juice obsessor. I’ve had a similar experience of heavyhandedness with grease at their sister spot Mud Hen Tavern, so I’m guessing that’s just the style of cooking this place employs.

Unfortunately it just wasn’t worth the trek thru Hollywood for me. Thai tea tastes like coconut cream(which I hate, but the lady that helped me was so nice I pretended to like it), their banh mi is more like a panini(isn’t the bread supposed to be the important part?!) and veg tempura just tastes like oil. Sandwich and skewers are so greasy I feel like I need to wash my face. Ohhhh well. Maybe their next menu will be better?

Worth a drive over the hill from the valley! About ½ the options are vegan and the other ½ are vegan optional. We tried 4 dishes. They were all packed with flavor. Mmmmm. To keep things fresh, they plan on changing the theme every 6 months. So that guarantees we’ll be making at least 2 road-trips a year to sample what’s new. Smart! Sadly, they are only open weekdays. Note: they ***DO*** take credit cards.

Ridiculously good! I stopped by to get something quick for lunch. Got an iced Thai tea(non dairy), potstickers, and persimmon salad(as a replacement for watermelon salad). Good grief, so much flavor. I loved every item and I will be back to try the others. I think it’s very reasonably priced, especially for the quality. And the young lady who prepared my food was really nice and upbeat! Awesome concept :)

This place is SOLID!!! The lady found it thru Instagram and I can’t be more impressed… well, kinda. The ahi poke, the shiso salad and soba noodles were killer. Full of flavor and portions were good so you were craving for more while still getting to sample all they had to offer. Both the bahn mi sandos(vegan and pork belly) however, needed some work. They had all the ingredients of a BahnMi, but I think trying to make it in a panini press just didn’t work… Kudos to the implementation of American fusion to Asian cuisine… I say that because there’s no way you’re getting this kind of vegetarian option in Asia!

Everything here can be made vegan or is already vegan. Came here while in LA because I’d seen their page on Instagram! Me and my two gal pals love eating at different vegan places, so this was a must. You won’t miss it! It’s a blue wall with a window and a red lamp. One disclaimer that maybe not everyone knows. The menu changes. At least, that was the impression I got! On a sign in front of Blue Window, it said«3 Months!» We asked about it, and they told us that they will have an entirely new menu in three months! So that’ll be fun to come back and try, but I’ll miss some of these options! Get ‘em while you can! Parking was pretty easy for the time and day we went, 3PM on a Wednesday. I’m sure it gets packed when it’s a busy day or time! We parked on the street. First off, the main menu of entrees is all $ 7 so that’s easy! I would’ve loved to try it all but we each got one item and split that up — which was perfect for us. There’s also sides for $ 5 and then an assortment of drinks such as soda, water, Thai iced tea, and Vietnamese iced coffee. I think the iced coffee and iced tea were around $ 6! We ordered: –BBQ Bao which was a tasty, fluffy bun with jackfruit inside. Really good! –Gochu Chicken Wings. They have these in a non vegan version as well, but we got the soy version. Really yummy!!! Definitely our favorite choice that day because it had so much flavor and just the right amount of spice. –Korean Potstickers. Pretty good, I always love postickers. I would love to try the Banh Mi and the Stuffed Tempura next time! But I need those Gochu«Chicken» Wings again!!! The service was stellar, such kind people! There’s a long bar or strip outside of Blue Window as well, where you can set your food down and eat. Convenient and quick! Would definitely recommend.

Service is stellar ! The young lady who took my order was super patient with me and helpful. The food was good but not great. Had the banh mi sand which and I was a bit overwhelmed by the sweetness of it. But do look forward to their future menu.

You know a place is good when you can’t resist popping by when you just had an entire meal next door. This is Street, reincarnated. This is Street on the street. Only in LA would it be revolutionary to be eating street food on the street, but I love it. Everything Susan Feniger and Chef Kajsa Alger touches turns to gold, but then they just have to go ahead and have a sign that reads, «Everything can be made vegan!» From the chicken wings to banh mi, whatever they’re serving, I’m eating. Okay, so I’ve almost tried everything here, but here’s the rub — it’ll be an entirely new menu in February! I kind of love it, though. It inspires a sense of urgency to try everything before it goes away. If you go now, you must try the jackfruit banh mi and the potstickers. I know I’ll be back just for those before the menu rotates again. Also, I met Chef Kajsa the first time I was here and I did not keep my cool(«What are you ordering?» «Omg I know who you are you are amazing thank you for loving vegan food as much as I do this is the best I love you.») but she was SOSWEET and kept talking to me even though I sounded like a lunatic. I fangirl hard for inventive chefs who have a soft spot for vegans, and Chef Kajsa is no exception. Thanks for not immediately running away when I opened my mouth, and the daikon poke is definitely next on my list! It’s cheap($ 7 for everything!) but it’s also cash only, so bring your money and enough to tip. Vegan-friendly, omni-friendly, dog-friendly, wallet-friendly, Blue Window is currently one of my favorite places in LA.

Came here with a friend around 9:30 p.m. on a Friday and just a couple people were eating at the counter, no line. We’d been wanting to try BW ever since seeing the menu posted on Instagram. Ordered a bunch of things. Pork banh mi — really good. Not your typical baguette/meat/carrot/jalapeño. Just tastes like a good sandwich. Chicken wings — too salty, and I’d prefer it without the yogurt. We could tell it was delicious under all that salt. Watermelon shiso salad — refreshing and delicious. Lots of shiso. Bao — Alright. It sat in a puddle of peanut sauce, which I wasn’t into. Bread wasn’t fluffy. It was more like an empanada. Thai tea — the server gave us a glass for free. It was delicious, but woooah thick. Maybe it was the end of the container, where the cream settles. It was just more like a milkshake. Service was way more than friendly. I’d call her best-friendly. You eat at a bar against the building stocked with compostable utensils, napkins and condiments. It’s cash only and luckily I had just made a sale on Craigslist(when else would I have $ 30 in cash?)

Get foodie food at a walk up window! What?! I love this place. There’s usually parking right in the front of it. Cross street is Waring. Breakdown of the food: Pork Bahn Mi — bread was crunchy, pork was well seasoned. Definitely a favorite. Porkbelly Bao — bao was fried not steamed so was a tad greasy but the sauce it came with was so delicious Potstickers — loved these, came on a bed of pureed sweet potato which complimented the crunch potsticker nicely Tuna Poke — my favorite! it was teetering on the edge of being too salty but the flavor and freshness was there and the alfalfa sprouts added such a nice touch Watermelon Shiso salad — another fave. Simple and refreshing. the combination of flavors was very unique. All this food came out to $ 36 bucks including tax and it was worth every penny. Only four more months! Get your butt down here!

We went here to visit Mudhen Tavern which has replaced Susan Feninger’s Street. We darned if we didn’t spit n’ cuss when we found out it wasn’t open… But THEBLUEWINDOWWAS!(Scary music). It actually wasn’t scary at all as Susan Feninger’s Street’s menu was their fare, and it was more than fair to middlin’. Delicious, varied and it can be vegan if you’re a little bitch about capitalist factory farming when you live in the hellhole that is Los Angeles where natural free range grass fed farming is available at every instance. But oh my goodness, the blue window only lets delicious waft out of its frame, and you’re butt will catch fire in a positive way as soon as you eat the Bahn Mi, ahi poke, hoke poke, the last one’s a joke, and I recommend after the pork bun a healthy smoke. However the menu changes every 5 months so this review will quickly become antiquated hence the last sentence: Believe in yourself and love those you trust, and always eat well.

This little take-out window which just opened next door to Mud Hen Tavern(and which is by the same folks) is AMAZING. As a vegetarian again who is surrounded by meat eaters, I was SUPER happy that everything on the small menu can be made either vegan or not(the menu rotates every 6 months and each entrée is $ 7 and side is $ 5). I tried the pot stickers and split a side of soba noodles, my co-worker got the meat Banh-mi, and we both really enjoyed them! The two women working there were very nice, service was a little slower than I expected but wasn’t too long and they are just opened too so we shall see on a return trip how that goes. The food is SOSO delicious! No real place to eat there(obviously) so best if you want to grab something to take back to home or the office. I’ll be back soon!

So is overindulged and tried four items since it was my first time. I chose to have all my items done vegan. Apparently, you can go either way which satisfies carnivores as well(best of both worlds). Banh Mi sandwhich made with Jack Fruit was very good. Excellent flavor and nice size portion. Bao with Jack Fruit was good. Great sauce its served with. Sometimes Bao can be a little dry but this was not. Finally, the potstickers. Those were really good and tasty! They were served with what appeared to be a smear of sweet potato. I smothered my potstickers with whatever it was and that only made them better! Thai iced coffee was ok. It was not bad, I probably would not order it again. But again, it did not taste bad-just wasn’t my favorite. It seemed a little to thick. If a non-vegan ate all the items I mentioned above I don’t think they would be disappointed and that is a good testimony and gauge of judging vegan food in my book. Décor: One blue window and blue wall with a wood bar to stand and eat. Simple and adequate. Service(which is a person that takes your order at the blue window) which was very pleasant and helpful. I’m definitely coming back again to try other items.

I was very happy to see that every item could be vegan. I was disappointed with Mud Hen Tavern because the vegan options seemed more limited and boring than its previous incarnation as the fantastic Street and definitely more limited than Chef Kasja’s incredible but shuttered all vegan food stand at the Haunted Hayride. I tried all the vegan items. The best were the BBQ Bao, Chilled Soba Noodles, Korean Potstickers, and Vietnamese Iced Coffee. The Banh Mi Sandwich, Stuffed Tempura, and Gochu«Chicken» Wings were also very good. Blue Window is the vegan section that Mud Hen Tavern is missing and it fills the space perfectly. Looking forward to their next menu in 6 months! Apparently they are closed on the weekend due to the popularity of the Mud Hen Tavern brunch which requires full attention of the kitchen.

I pity the fool that decides not to give this joint 5 stars. The food quality and flavor is through the roof. Me and a co worker split the potstickers, chicken wings and ban mi. Will try the jackfruit bun next time. The potstickers are out of this world scrumptious. They are full of familiar Korean flavors and resting on a creamy bed of awesome pureed sweet potatoes. The potstickers were crispy with the perogi style dough texture. Will return. Service was great as well.
