The Castelblanco Law group did a superb job at getting me the help I needed when my landlord tried to evict me for with holding rent because the landlord was not maintaining the property up to standards. When I moved in everything seemed just fine, and over the course of the year a stain developed in the ceiling and walls. The ceiling and walls became yellowed, warped and cracked. I tried to have the Landlord come look at the problem but there was always an excuse, and when he finally did look at it, he said it wasn’t a big deal. So I with held the rent until they decided to fix it. Instead of fixing my walls they served me an eviction notice. I didn’t know what to do. I wwasn’t in a spot where I could just pick up and move. The folks at the The Castelblanco Law group really helped me out. Eric and his staff were very professional, helpful, especially Juanita Guillen. She helped me with my case and always kept me in the loop of what was going on. We were able to settle my case in my favor. I can’t thank them enough.

There are no words to describe the hard work by Mr. Castelblanco and his associates. In the name of justice, they turn every stone to seek justice for the tenants and fight diligently only for tenants. If you are a tenant, there are laws to protect you from sub-​standard conditions that can lead to unforeseeable health problems. If you are hesitant, just look at other honest reviews where they are satisfied and overjoyed with the outcomes. Just remember, every tenants are protected under law and Mr. Castelblanco and his associates are here to guide and fight for your rights!

This guy knows what his doing! I would recomend him in a snap of fingers, and have. I had moved in to a building in 2008 and it was not in the best conditions. The building Manager at that time stated he would fix it all up before I moved in, though that never happened, even after numerous requests. The apartment was infested with bugs, and not to mention the condition of that apartment. My children were inhaling ashes from a previous fire in that unit, in which it was just mickey-​mouse patched. There were rats in the building and the Managers were being sneaky about stuff. Long story short he got me all my year’s worth of rent payments back and more, and my children got there share too. It was a very plesant experience to have met this law firm, and it’s staff. Great lawyer, and the place is very welcoming. Don’t trust my words??? Then give it a try and see for yourself.

Was so grateful when I received a response from this law firm indicating an interest to meet with me regarding my case. I had an extensively troubling housing situation in which I had suffered from pretty negligent and discriminatory/​outright abuses towards me and any of my housing, civil or disability rights. I was seeking advocacy/​protection against wrongful eviction threats, (that started coming after I exercised my rights to complain against discriminatory practices, as well as to speak out against violence/​hate crimes/​harassment etc. that I had actually been victimized by at the property as well that my Landlords had an obligation to prevent — not retaliate against me for having reported!) Having done further research and reading positive reviews and seeing this firm specialized in helping tenants specifically dealing with unlawful or unfair conditions/​treatment from their landlords, I really felt encouraged when I met with an attorney from this firm, who indicated they could take my case, were willing to be of further help to me, and able to take my case on a contingency basis. Initially I was told they could possibly go one of several ways, to address/​attempt resolution for my case– with a lawsuit being one of them. And, I was told to schedule a return visit the following week so I could come back in and submit any and all documentation necessary for the attorneys to more thoroughly review and assess. This is when and where things started going South and I distinctly started getting a very strange feeling, when per agreement, I called the following week to schedule a time to come in and bring documentation and my call/​appointment was not returned or scheduled. Then I tried to follow up and was told by the attorney I had met with that I could anticipate a phone call from her at the end of the week. That call never came. In attempting to touch base or inquire; (especially based on the instructions and information I had been given to send over certain documentation, re-​schedule a return visit, etc.) Not to mention that during the initial consult I was lead to believe there were merits for a strong case and that action steps moving us forward could most definitely be pursued, I was really taken aback when I was then contacted about still coming in for an appointment to drop off/​submit my documentation– and before even having a chance to do so– I received a call instead indicating that they were no longer able or willing to further evaluate my case or even review the documentation that I was specifically requested to submit for further reviews. In essence, though there are never any promises or guarantees made in life, I still found it very odd that I went from being told that they would definitively be taking my case and working with me as part of a ‘free consultation’ process and or based on a contingency aspect, as I worked to deliver/​submit pertinent information related to my case to not even having what was initiated, extended and requested of me, followed through on. And, I was further told that I would be further advised after that time, as to what possible courses of action would be advisable so I could also be apprised of any next steps. It seems that within a very short time upon meeting with the attorney the first time, to any subsequent exchanges or non-​exchanges, that their position and representations shifted without much fair or adequate explanation and the lack of alignment between what was actually represented/​stated or expressed to me, to what actually ended up happening just within a week’s time, was already a bad sign, after such a hopeful start. Regardless of the fact that these kinds of things may indeed happen in life, it was one of the last things I expected after feeling I had finally found a solid law firm to be working with in regards to my case. The lack of straightforwardness or lack of integrity in what I thought was straightforward/​honest representation initially, to even feeling mislead, (as if full disclosures had not been properly or honestly communicated to me,) which then seemed to be resolved by them ‘backing out’ on me, (reneging on evaluating my claims further, even as I had been given an appointment to come back in to submit docs– at their request, and had been promised that they would do-​) I can only say I don’t feel I was treated fairly or professionally. Given any hopes/​need for the help I thought I had found and had been reassured into believing I would be receiving from them, it was even more of a disappointment/​shock. I did not just feel mislead, and ‘dropped,’ but I felt like it may have had something also to do with fees or other money related issues that were also explained to me as being a non-​issue based on contingency initially, but in reality weren’t, only I don’t believe they were forthcoming/​forthright about this, and hence my case was dropped. Talk about being hit when already vulnerable? Yikes. I hope others have better luck!

Whoo! Talk about a quick recovery. The owner of this law firm called me back in less than 24 hours after I posted my review. Now that is someone interested in correcting any sort of problems.
To be clear from my initial review, I was seeking a free consultation, in no way did Castelblanco state that they offered free consultative services (hey, who doesn’t like free stuff?) I still stand behind my entire experience but Eric shared with me that they are a family business interested in helping the community. He was very shocked to hear that I had such a terrible experience and wanted to take it as a teaching moment for his staff.
I was honored to be a part of this teaching moment. He wanted my feedback to better his interactions with new clients. We had to have been on the phone for about 15 minutes. I told him the reason I really wanted to do business with his firm was due to all of the positive community work shown on his website. Eric Castelblanco prides himself on putting his LA community at the forefront of his practice. He has always wanted his practice to provide a safe, nurturing environment for tenants and he claims to never represent landlords as long as he’s in practice.
He really saved the day here. While I did not go into business with Castelblanco Law Group, I will be happy to return in the future should a need arise.

I got a job in LA in the «Industry» (Movies), and I needed a place to live quickly. I moved into this secondary unit. (mother in-​law unit) that was carved out below the owner/landlord’s house. The rent was cheap and the utilities were included so I took the place. Three months into living there, the owner asks me to pay my portion of the utilities because I was using more energy than he expected. The apartment does not have a heater and I was using a space heater to heat the entire two-​bedroom apartment.
One quick letter from Castelblanco Law Group, and the issue was solved. The letter that was written was affordable and professional. In fact, I think that the owner/​landlord is scared of me now. I mean, who wants to be sued? A few months have passed and I am now living in peace. I am so grateful for the resources and advice from the attorney’s there.
It was totally worth the money I spent on this. If I had to move out, it would have cost much more than I invested into this advice and letter. I will definatly keep them in mind if something else comes up in the future. With this Landlord, I’m sure something will. I feel better knowing I have these attorneys on my side.

Our landlord would never make repairs or fumigate! Only time he’d pop up was when rent was due. Most of the tenants joined forces and went to see Castelblanco Law Group.
