Glad this place has failed, and I wish them the worst. Never have got to eat here yet, they are always closed. I once walked in and they said they were closed for two hours for some break in the day thing. This fat fuck was just sitting behind the counter on his computer messin around. Even if you are open when you say you are, its so fucking arrogant to think you will succeed as a business being open for 6 hours a day for 5 days a week. Your competition, Rocket Pizza is open til 2am, Garage is open til 4am, and they are doing so well because they stay open. This neighborhood has bars and people who live here as well, stop only going after the lunch crowd. I dont know if its because your lazy or stupid.

Every once in a while I get that hankering for a good old ‘boli. But you know what, there aren’t a lot of places that make a decent one, or for that matter, make them at all. Enter Coly’s and their lunch menu of bread wrapped goodness. The Original(5 stars) A must try that puts everything together very well. Ham, pepperoni, capricole, mozzarella, provolone, and marina. Chicken Parm(4 stars) — Nothing overly exciting but a solid option Sausage and Peppers(3.5 stars) Classic italian sausage and pepper combo cooked into the bread. Hawaiian(3.5 stars) Not half bad. Like a hawaiian pizza rolled into a burrito Pepperoni —(3 stars) Edible. The one consistent I’ve noticed with all of the options I have tried is that the dough is nice and soft — not overcooked or too hard, but just right. The prep time is about 10 minutes, so be prepared to kill some time watching a silent classic 80’s flick on the TV, or popping in a few quarters to play a game of Space Invaders. Then again you could just twiddle your thumbs for a bit and wait for your food to arrive.

Gotta say… I’m definitely a fan! I had never had stromboli before… until a friend mentioned it! Didn’t take much to convince me when he said it was similar to a calzone… but better! ;) Had the sausage and peppers stromboli, and it was DELICIOUS! Perfect amount of cheeses, and ingredients, and best of all… extra sause on the side WITHOUT having to pay extra for it! ;) It’s very quiet and not busy at all, but it could be because the place is not easily seen from the street. You could easily walk by it unless you’re looking for it. They definitley need more advertising and a better signage! Anyway… if you’re looking for GREAT stromboli… COLY’s is the place! ;) I’m definitley going back to try the rest of them on th menu! See you there?! :D

De-LISH. So, so good. Cheesy, pepperoni-y perfection wrapped in some of the best pizza dough in LA. The marinara dipping sauce will blow your mind. The combo is a pretty good deal with a stromboli, «Dirty» potato chips, and a beverage for 9 bucks. You can sub a salad for the drink and chips, which is obviously healthier, but the salads are nothing to write home about. My tastebuds wish I was in downtown more often, so I could indulge in Coly’s more often. My waistline on the other hand rejoices that it is only an occasional treat.

Hey businesses out there… if I enter your establishment and Bones Brigade is playing on the television, you automatically get 4 stars. If you’re a restaurant like Coly’s that actually has good food, a 5 star review is my gift to you.

I wanted to like this place really badly. I am a die-hard fan of The Must(same owner) and a die-hard fan of stromboli(having grown up amongst Italians(esp. Sicilians.) I bemoan the loss of the The Must every time I walk past its old space(now something strange called Onyx?) Décor — 3 stars. The space was formerly occupied(briefly, less than a year) by Pie Boy Pizzeria, which served up some greasy pizza. Décor seems the same except for the stellar addition of a coin-up video game table(didn’t play but I think it was Ms. Pacman.) The TV may have been added, too. Ambience — 2 stars. Tiny and loud which is a tough combination. 80s films playing with subtitles was entertaining. Not a place I felt comfortable kicking back. Felt like a dark Subway — better to grab-n-go. Food — 3 stars. I had the traditional or house special(I forget exactly what it was called.) Stromboli was just ok. Better than average for LA. Nothing to compare to what you can find pretty easily in Chicago, New York, Philly, etc. Conventional ingredients, but nothing really popped. It was missing something to make it pop(better dough would’ve been a good start.) Marinara sauce was above average, but was served cold. Didn’t work for me. Prices are very reasonable, but I have other better local options in pretty similar price range(Two Bits Market, Garo’s Deli, LA Café, Mai Tacos, Cole’s french dip, California Pita Kitchen, Grand Central Market.) Drink — 4 stars. BYOB is always nice while it lasts. Conclusion: I’m waiting for the owners to open the rooftop space and the basement space(the new Must.) Probably won’t go back to Coly’s Stromboli unless someone else drags me or I hear that it’s changed.

This is a great little spot tucked right on the first floor of the Pershing Square building. The strombolis are delicious, affordable, and cooked to order. It’s a small place and a small menu but what they do, they do right. Best of all they let you byob!

I HATE giving this place two stars. I walked over having high hopes. The stromboli was fine. I like that they are BYOB. However it was SOOOOLOUD. What’s up with that? My friend and I went later in the afternoon to avoid a crowd and we were the only people there. Still, we could barely talk to each other at a small table because the music was really loud. On top of that an employee played Space Invaders most of the time I was there, so I had to listen to the soundtrack of that with the music. When we walked outside on the city street we were amazed at how relaxing it was on Hill St. and how much easier it was to talk. The place was not relaxing at all. It’s been about an hour since I left and my ears are just now returning to normal. Wow.

When I first found out Coly’s was opening, I knew I had to at least go look and see. Brought to you by the owners of the former«the Must», I had to at least show some support. When I realized the location, I was curious what the target market is. Conveniently located near one of the Pershing Square stops, I am not sure who the regular clientele would be. Apart from working in a building near by or maybe living in a loft next door. Coly’s does have that feel of a very local pizza place. It has its own pizza oven inside. It’s tiny like one of those little pizza by the slice joints. It already has the feel of ‘locals’ to it already. Bad movies on the tv set. A run down Space Invaders machine. It feels like you have a couple bucks of your allowance after school to spend on a slice of pizza. But no pizza. With an oven they have inside, you do wonder why they don’t have pizza. I say this because the stromboli I had was very good. The crust was very much a good pizza crust. It begs to be spread out with toppings! Instead… you have a Coly’s Stromboli. Which is not bad at all. I usually shy away from strombolis because they are usually too dry or too wet. The Original I had was pretty damn good. Nicely packed with filling, it didn’t make a huge mess when I cut into it. A great tasting and satisfying meal.(I later went back and tried their Eggplant, which is superb as well). Coly’s is a very good spot if you are in the area. For $ 6.50 for a rock solid hot meal you really can’t go wrong.

Holy Stromboli! If I lived Downtown or in a ‘hood that’s Metro-friendly, I would easily make Coly’s my go-to lunch spot in a heartbeat! It’s quaint but with an east coast street corner vibe. The menu is pretty simple(4 or 5 different strombolis) and they prove that sometimes simple is all you need. Since I am trying really hard to keep up with GOOD magazine’s June challenge of avoiding meat, I had the Mediterranean and I was a little worried that I jipped myself of a hearty lunch by not going for the beefier one but nope. It was the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. The dough of the stromboli made me cry tears of sheer delight. I would make it my cocoon if I could. The inside was an impressive balance of pesto, cheese, and vegetables and the secret marinara sauce on the side served as a flavorful dipping agent. I opted for the combo with the side salad, but I advise skipping the combo, as the salad is pretty basic and you get more than enough with the Stromboli. Thankfully for my waistline, Coly’s isn’t as accessible as I would like it to be!

Coly’s is the spot brah! I get the Pepperoni which is BOMBdotcom. I want moar! The place is very clean on the inside and they play awesome music and show movies like«Annie» on the flat screen in the back. Minus one star for closing early. I live right across the street but work on the west side so I don’t get home till around 6p. Sadly, their doors close @ 5p.

I dig it. It’s across the street, not too greasy at all and will fill you up for about $ 7. They need to be open later cause I’m a fat girl who likes to eat late. Closing at 5pm is unreasonable. Welcome to the neighborhood!

I’m so bored with all the pizza joints downtown, a new one seems to open up every day. Then I stumbled upon Coly’s Stromboli, and they are taking a different direction to unoriginal pizza with stromboli’s. A stromboli is basically a rolled pizza, or an itilian burrito, and they are crazy good! I had the original, and it was banging. You get a side of the chef’s secret marinara sauce, and I wanted to drink it by the gallon. The place looks like a 80’s style pizzeria, with table top Space Invaders and all. Real cozy, and a great inexpensive meal. I’ll be back… A lot!

OMG… stromboli, a drink and a side antipasto salad with meat that doesn’t look like it came from the subway next door– CHECKCHECKCHECK. Stopped by yesterday. place is much smaller than I’d though– even though everyone’s said it’s tiny… cavelie…cozy. Easy to find. Beastie Boys on the wall– YAY! Flat screen tv showing Kurt Russell flicks– YAYAY! FOOD…seriously, cheesy, meaty, greasy(ok not too greasy), baked bready goodness. I really do think that it’s made to order– not some premade day before/morning chilling in the freezer item. And… the stromboli combo w/a salad is more than enough to share– AND neither of you are going to leave hungry!

the bomb. com… The marinara sauce is outstanding! I had the pepperoni. The crust is crispy and light and it’s a pocket of gooey goodness. The place itself is a cozy little cave and the best part– they have a tabletop Space Invaders. Good stuff! Totally worth checking out.
