Great Class, Exactly What I Needed! I am transitioning from my basic point and shoot pocket camera to a new DSLR. I was completely new to DSLR cameras and needed to learn the basics. This 3 hour class was awesome! First off Okello Dunkley, the instructor/owner of DSLR Workshop is the actual person who teaches the class. After seeing his well put together website I thought he would be sending out an employee of his to teach the class since he has classes all over the US. That was NOT the case, he flies all over the US to different cities and teaches the class himself. Very Cool! He was very patient, thorough, gave a lot of hands on info during the class and allowed plenty of time for Q and A’s. Bring your camera and a freshly charged battery to this 3 hour class! He goes over a lot of the different settings to help you achieve great pictures depending on the situation(indoor/outdoor, action shots/portraits and everything in between). He also talks about composition of your photos and how best to frame/balance your shots. He also covers different brand software’s and their capabilities to edit your photos on your PC. The class I attended was at the Westin Hotel close to LAX. He came prepared with both Canon and Nikon DSLR’s that he connected to the large video screen. As he changed settings on his camera, you would see it on the large video screen and duplicate them on your camera and then snap some picture, I had an Olympus micro 4/3rds and had NO problem following along. He also has a personal assistant that walks around the class helps you if you get stuck. This class is very hands on and I got soo much more out of it than the«photography for dummies» book I got from Barnes and Noble. I am sure the book will come in handy later on down the road, but this class being so hands on really got me up and running so much quicker! He also brings a laptop that he has connected to a secondary video monitor that has a slide show/presentation that covers everything he is teaching. Between the classroom handouts and video demonstrations, I would say this is a very well organized class! When you see his website you think its some large corporate company and its not, it’s a smaller more personal hands on class with the owner. Way better IMO! What stands out most about this class is Okello’s personality, without a doubt this man enjoys his work and it shows. His teaching style breaks things down in a very practical way so you can start taking better photos right after class. He stuck around after the class and answered everyone’s questions. I would highly recommend this class and when Okello comes back to LA, I will be signing up for«Part 2» of this class.
