This may seem like a minor issue to some, but I’ve purchased Arizona Iced Tea from this place twice and I’ve been overcharged both times. For those of you who don’t drink AIT, their 23-ounce cans say«Great Buy! 99 cents» pre-stamped at the top. Both times I was charged $ 1.15 instead. The first time was presumably by the male owner of the store, who said he was charging for tax and CRV. The second time was this afternoon, when the older female proprietor who some have mentioned here said«we charge you more so we can make money» and blamed it on the owner’s decision to upcharge. Another vendor closer to my office(ie the same CRV and tax rate) charges me $ 1.05. It’s a shame, because this place has the deepest selection of AIT I’d found in the DTLA area, but I refuse to go back because of this deceptive business practice. Find a markup elsewhere if you think you’re losing money, or stop selling a product whose manufacturer’s judgement you’re choosing to override.

Ahhh my favorite random snack stop when I visit Onizuka Tattoo next door! Your typical convenience store of course, but always well stocked with super duper neat shelves and super cold drinks! This spot is perfect if you don’t want to hassle with going into a larger market type place and have to bother waiting in long lines with other people doing their weekly shopping. Well duh, that’s what a convenience store is all about, right??? The staff is usually pretty friendly, and I even tried to tell them once to keep the 45 cents change I had coming to me. The lady forced me to take my change, and wouldn’t let me leave without it! Things like that just make you come back to help them stay in business, you know? Of course, parking is not friendly here; nobody in their right mind would drive just to come here! It’s more of a place you would stop at if you were in the area strolling around and wanted a quick drink or snack or something. Open pretty late, very convenient!!!

I do not recommend visiting this store. The woman working was extremely rude and unpleasant. She was very nasty to us when we tried to submit our winning lottery tickets. If you sell lottery tickets, you should also pay out. She demanded we go elsewhere instead. So please, everyone, go elsewhere. Do not give this place your business.

Not the same type of convenience store that you may have gone to while in Japan. People talk about the Japanese snacks but you can always just go to Marukai across the street to get what you need. I come here once in a while to buy lottery tickets and it’s usually run by an older woman. The first time I came to cash some winning tickets the lady didn’t give me the right amount. The second time I came to cash some winning tickets, a different lady started bad mouthing me to her friend in Japanese, not knowing that I speak Japanese. She was complaining about being so busy and why does this guy have to come here to cash his tickets. And yes I did buy them from here and actually even bought some more. So when I finally put her on blast that I understood Japanese and spoke to her fluently in Japanese, she was shocked and very apologetic. No class with even less customer service. Sad.

If you’re expecting the Family Mart that you know from Asia, then don’t even bother. You’ll be disappointed because it isn’t the same thing. This Family Mart sells the same drinks and snacks that you’ll find at Nijiya across the street, but at a higher price. Why anyone would buy stuff here instead of walking to the supermarket boggles my mind. Aside from selling snacks, cigarettes, and lottery tickets, they somehow also sell boba. Now, this used to be a I Love Boba location too, so I think somehow they now decided to combine them. The boba here, is ridiculously sweet. It is laced with enough sugar to make a kid go buck nasty for a week. The tapioca pearls taste like they’ve been sitting for a while, so that’s probably why no one really buys it here. Price on it is a little expensive too, $ 3, considering what you get out of it. If you want boba, go to Four Leaf. For all the other drinks and snacks, just head to the supermarket.

awesome japanese convenience store! lots of unique asian junk food and sweets. i stumbled across Chester’s Fries– Chili Cheese! i didn’t even know these existed! i’m totally hooked on these now more so than the Hot Fries. they also have a small section of Japanese AV porn in the back left side of the store… which is kinda weird because two old Japanese woman were running the spot when I was there with a friend. still, it’s a very quaint spot for some asian treats… edible and visual.

It is what it is… a simple convenience store. Pretty hard to mess up, so why the 2-star rating? The service was a bit weird. The folks at the counter/register weren’t exactly fluent in English and also definitely not Japanese so it was a bit awkward to order. They have boba here in addition to the normal convenience store fare. Note that this place sells more Japanese goods than the regular American stuff. My green tea slushie with boba was actually pretty good, but my brother who had the milk tea complained that his wasn’t that great and they totally ripped him off since it was 90% ice. Two sips and the thing was done. Strange since milk tea is a staple of boba shops. I think it was about $ 4~$ 5 for a regular drink.

this place was deceiving as they use the same name as the typical ‘family marts’ in japan but are nothing like them at all. i went in thinking i’d get a wide variety of japanese candies, drinks, ice creams, maybe even some ready to go food items and found nothing more than a row of soda fridges, stereotypical american candies and chips and then a rear doorway to «adult videos.» being so close or rather being INSIDE Little Tokyo, this place should really change their name if they aren’t going to go the whole nine yards and offer better stuff.

Hmmm, I love family mart in Japan. What happen LA??? It is a former shadow of itself. When I went to the one in LA I was really surprised how small it had become. Almost like a mom and dad operation. The plentiful selections you find in Japan do not exist here. I suggest going to this place only if you are in Japan to experience it in full glory.

Last night after ramen, we found something glorious. Family Mart is back to selling their delicious waffle covered chocolate dipped icecream. They didn’t have the exact tea I got last time, but the Jasmine was just fine. They got rid of their crazy condoms and whatnot out front, but they put it in the crazy little hidden tunnel where the adult section is by the register. Still haven’t gone in there yet. Plus they added this crazy door greeting/good bye in Japanese so whenever you stand by the door it always talks to you. And theyre open late. Yesssss! I love Family Mart.

They were closed for a bit(remodeling), which troubled me until I realized there was another Family Mart less than 500 feet away on 1st Street. Anyway, the newly remodeled F.M. features many fewer novelty condoms and herbal pill remedies, and *no* beer, just a lot of sodas, snacks, cigarettes and porn. Stacks and stacks and rows and shelves of Japanese porn… which the kindly old lady was inventorying today. I guess you had to be there to feel just how awkward that was… buying sundries from and making small talk with a very nice grandmotherly person surrounded by stacks of porn discs and boxcovers featuring **** and *** and @#$!%!!. Yeah. Bring your family to Family Mart. But be prepared to answer some awkward questions from your children.

I think some of the people are mixing up the 2 family marts in jtown. This one is across the way from the curry house to-go. They do have beer and wine at this location, but no porn. The porn is at the one on 1st st. How do i know? i just do. Ive been around. However, both of them have horny goat weed and ecstacy cigarettes,(they are nasty) and extra small size condoms for you know, the Asians. I always see some losers buying 40s and miller lite here. Brown bag it boys!
