I hardly see the truck out, but when I do, I make sure to get the pork belly bao buns. They’re absolutely amazing! As for tacos, I usually get the tamarind duck, which has a lot of really good flavors.

After NYC’s Momofuku, I thought I’d enjoy pork buns again when pigs fly. The Pork Buns are pretty good here, with a nice balance of hoisin and pickled radish. My mouth is watering just thinking about my pork bun and juicy Tamarind Duck Taco. I love pork buns, I love duck, and I love that they both come from the same truck. I’m going to stay away from this food truck… when pigs fly.

You can find them around the 1400 block on Abbot Kinney Blvd. on the first Friday of every month. Good luck finding parking though! I tried the pork belly bun($ 3.50). The pork belly was crispy and tasty. The bun was fluffy and sweet. The caveat is that it may make you hungrier — it can be marketed as an appetite stimulant!

I’ve had the duck tacos which i like. the tangerine is a nice stop and keeps it from getting dry. I’ve had the sliders, which are flavorful, but sort of dry. i’ve also had the carne asada, but they recommended keeping it totally plain for kids, which highlighted the grisly meat in the taco. all and all, not bad.

This was the first food truck I ever tried and it was a fine experience. The guy running the truck was super friendly and nice. The food was good(duck was my favorite) but served in very small portions… I think I would need at least 5 plates to somewhat curb my appetite. The reason I give it 1 star is because I later found out there was a porno taped in the truck. Sure the guy was mislead but still, not an appetizing thought…

Pictures of tacos were nice chunky pieces of meat on a hefty taco. What we got, not so much. The tacos were tiny for $ 2.75 each. We got the carne asada and spicy pork. The death sauce was not that spicy. The green papaya on the pork was a bit funky but there was great sauce on it. Meh nothing worth raving about.

Normally I’m not a fan of food trucks… long lines and inflated prices? No thanks! However, I was pleasantly surprised by the Flying Pig Truck. First and foremost, they accept credit card! Which was a pleasant surprise for me. On to the food… Pork belly bun — 5 stars. Seriously this thing was so delicious! Though $ 3.50 is a little pricey for such a little guy, the amount of flavor in this thing was amazing. The tender, savory pork belly with just the right meat/fat ratio, coupled with the tangy picked cucumbers and onions, all wrapped up in a fluffy white bun was to die for. Duck taco — 3 stars. The taco wasn’t bad, don’t get me wrong, but the duck confit wasn’t as soft and tender as I would have liked it to be. The flavors were interesting, though the sauce they put on it was very overpowering. If you ever see the flying pig truck, be sure to try their pork belly bun. If you’re a pork belly lover like me, you won’t be disappointed!!!

I have heard great things about this truck and I’ve been wanting to try it for so long now, especially after I watched a Food Truck episode of Food Paradise on the Travel Channel. Unable to control myself, I ran to the truck, absolutely could not wait to order, and when I finally, finally go to the front, I couldn’t help but let the cashier know I saw their truck on television. From what I could tell, he was flattered, and recommended their Pork Belly and Tamarind Duck. I ordered them both without guilt. The wait took longer than I thought it would, but after getting them handed to me and inspecting the two a little closer, I understood why. Though both Pork Belly and Tamarind Duck are small, they are exploding with intricate tastes. What is most intriguing about the Pork Belly is not the taste but the texture. The Pork Belly itself felt terrifying light but was nonetheless very toothsome. The rest of the ingredients, red onions, pickled sesame cucumber, and their so-called death sauce flattered the Pork Belly. The Tamarind Duck did not disappoint either. A perfect harmony was evident between the the pickled beets, toasted almonds, radish sprouts, mandarin oranges, gravy, and of course the moist duck. Eating from a truck you’ve seen on television might have made my experience more enjoyable. After resisting the temptation to slobber over the television and finally, finally getting to taste what the hosts get to taste is all the more exciting, refreshing, and gratifying.

I have heard great things about this truck in the past, so I was excited when I saw it in the Food Truck Chow Down. I ordered the tamarind duck taco, and was pleased with its presentation, but a little disappointed in its size. It had a ton of flavor, and it was something I have never tasted before, but I’m not sure if I would get it again. The truck is cute though! I’ll definitely try the other food items on their menu.

I don’t really know that much about the Flying Pig truck, neither did I know that they would be at the LA Food Truck Chow Down festival last weekend. I saw the truck and looked at the menu and was salivating from the descriptions alone. I tried two items from the truck and was blown away by the presentation alone. The color and brightness played with my senses from both the tamarind duck taco and the pork belly bun. Both items were amazing. The mandarin orange on the taco with the radish sprouts gave the duck confit a nice balance of flavors. The pork belly bun reminded me of San Francisco’s Chairman Bao’s pork belly buns with the same brightness and quality. I am definitely going to follow this truck when I’m in the Southern California area and I cannot wait to try their restaurant when it opens in Little Tokyo. I am definitely a huge fan and I love them buns too!

One thing is for sure and that’s surfers know their tacos, Paco. So imagine my luck, Chuck, when I spotted the big Flying Pig Truck down Paradise Cove way supporting the Peace Paddle 2011 event( ). One little golden token, offered unspoken, and the tasty tacos were mine, da kine! And they were so good, 260 paddlers went out and made the largest surfer peace sign in the world! And I got to hug Laird Hamilton and Dave Kalama till their wives arrived. June 4, a crowd of about 300 people gathered at the Malibu beachside home of Ron and Kelly Meyer to raise money for the Natural Resources Defense Council’s Ocean Initiative( ) and the Flying Pig was there to feed the hungry attempting a Guinness World Record for the largest peace symbol on the water, I even brought my daughter. Good times, good people and good food made the Peace Paddle 2011 a fantastic event(I’m at the top-center holding Kenny G’s hand). But forget my rhymes, Grimes, if you spot the truck, you’re in luck. Don’t be shy, fly, cause this pig has wings and you don’t have to be a surfer, conservationist or celebrity to enjoy great tacos. Peace is delicious anywhere, as long as we can just share.

Hard Core PORN… and PORK! OK, I won’t bore you with the details but BASICALLY… The actual Flying Pig truck was rented out to a director who shot a XXX movie called The Flying Pink Pig. The owner of the truck claims he didn’t know actual hardcore porn would be shot IN the truck so he’s gonna sue I guess. Oh and Ron Jeremy is in it… you can get the details in the links below… and a movie trailer too!(not quite safe for viewing at work) LA Weekly Eater(trailer) TMZ(lawsuit) Oh and I ate here last week… ANYWAYS…the pork belly bun is pretty damn tasty! It consists of braised pork belly with red onion escabeche, pickled sesame cucumber, death sauce on a steamed bao bun. My particular piece of pork had just the right amount of fat and tender meat, it was balanced well with the cool cucumber and onion all housed by a warm and«doughy» steamed bun. The death sauce was NOT spicy at all but I still enjoyed it! The spicy pork taco left just a little something to be desired… www.yelp.com/biz_photos/DN_Qyv7f2dxCTZN3ywFdzg?select=ukhSQXgH48k-o2w_AtfqCg the marinated pork shoulder was cooked well, tortilla was warm, green papaya and cilantro cream tasted cool and fresh enough, the black sesame seeds were a nice addition and sadly the death sauce is simply NOT spicy! It was just OK, nothing special… Normally I would say go here and let these dudes stuff some meat in your mouth… but that phrase kinda has new meaning NOW… so I won’t. I WILL say I hope they spent some extra time with industrial strength disinfectants for those countertops… Oh and I’ve got an idea for a sequel! How about The Flying Greasy Wiener?

Read about the pork belly so I ordered it. Pretty much, it was everything opposite of what I thought it was going be. Because when I hear«belly», it doesn’t sound too attractive. Or does it? LMAO. This truck did a great job preparing the pork belly and I enjoyed it! After my first bite, it quickly reminded me of the infamous Filipino siopao! My fellow Filipino friend Jonathan U. confirmed it was well hahaha!

Dear Flying Pig, I came to you with no expectations whatsoever. I assumed your menu would be, if not completely, heavy with pork options. It was nice to see that there’s some good variety in that menu, but I still couldn’t resist the pork belly. Pork belly bun. If there’s a way I want to go, it’s by the death sauce. I’m just saying that it would be a very pleasant way to bite the dust. Amazing stuff. The bun & the belly was pretty exceptional too. Tamarind duck taco. I do not do beats. Yes, I hail from PA where the beet farms are a plenty, but you won’t find me adding them to a salad or anything for that matter. I didn’t even realize they were in there for that matter. They tasted as if they were pickled, or maybe the cucumber flavors just overtook it. The Tamarind gravy, just wow. Topped off with mandarin oranges and almonds to complete the creation, I had to order another. Now that you post up every Friday for lunch at 9th& Hope, I can see myself getting into a weekly lunch affair. Sincerely yours, M.P.

back and forth back and forth… This review is dedicated to Isabel F. in the much dismay of Lucy Y. Alright Pig you hosed me on visit one and after visit two and I completely wrote you off. But your truck is SO cute. And I love all things pig so how can I not love you? I passed you by the other night on Sawtelle as I couldn’t handle back to back food truck shame(Ludo Bites had just let me down) so I gave Bool a try. Bool Rools and is Cool bc they make me Drool. Their Spicy Pork Taco IS the best I have had from a truck. So when fellow Unilocal friend Michelle T. got duped at FTF #2 bc you had TOFU and Chicken Tacos only and we saw your cute pink truck at Heal the Bay, we both said what the hey lets give them another go. I am not going to lie when I say that I was nervous as I placed my order for a single spicy pork taco. How’s it going to be this time I thought? Both previous times the flavors, textures and temperature have been way off. Try 1: nothing deathly about the death sauce and all the temperatures(meat and slaw) were the same. Gross. Try 2: still nothing deathly about the death sauce BUT the meat was warm and the slaw on top was actually chilled. Summary: I expected much more in-your-face flavors from the tacos and other items I tried. The inconsistent temperatures irked me and I didn’t enjoy my eats. Fast forward to Heal the Bay. My order was in, cash handed over and I waited about 3 minutes and I had my taco in hand. Looked good and smelled good so I kept my fingers crossed. I took my first bite and had to look at the truck again to remind me which one I was in front of. The pork was hot! The chilled toppings were cool and crisp on this hot day and the perfect refreshing counterpart to the hot meat. And the death sauce, oh boy it was deathly today! I like spicy and it was spicy. Guess they were making up for the loss of flavor on my past visits. Three times is a charm apparently so. But why couldn’t this taco be this good the first time? Or the second time? Even though I enjoyed it, don’t expect me to go running back every time. Bool still Rools and unfortunately the inconsistency in the pig still leaves me a little scared. Let’s just leave it with, I’ll be a regular when pigs fly. Cute truck though but then I have always said that.

I got a tamarind duck taco & a spicy pork taco($ 2.75 ea) and was supremely unimpressed. Each taco was slightly larger than the size of my palm, the sauces were too sweet, the death sauce was not spicy enough, and the meats weren’t at all tender. I guess it’d been sitting there all day, so the meats were kinda hard/dry & the food was cold. And it still was a long wait for 9pm. I’d much rather go to Chipotle and get better quality food in bigger portions with less wait.

It took 10 minutes before I had a chance to order, but it was almost 2pm and there was only 1 guy in front of me. My only thought was this better be good. It took another 10 minutes before I was finally served a spicy pork taco. The marinated pork shoulder was chunky. It had decent flavor but the Asian inspired green papaya in it didn’t make it a better fusion taco. I still like Kogi’s better.

Last night I finally saw that they have like a permanent menu with pics. I was kinda surprised to find them in Sawtelle close to midnight and I was in dire need of food as I was so hungry after watching a musical. I’d never ordered a burrito from them so I thought, hm, I’d give it a try. Since I always loved their spicy pork, I was bummed that they were out of it and opted for drunken shrimp, they were out of it as well, what’s left then? The normal carne asada and chicken? Thank God they offered me the duck burrito. I didn’t see it on the menu, but hey, if they wanted to charge me the same price for duck, sure why not? Unlike regular burrito, theirs was not filled so much with rice, but plenty of duck meat. Their concept was basically the same like taco, just with more meat. I saw a girl got her burrito but it wasn’t cut or presented as nice as mine. I don’t know if the presentation came just for the duck burrito, but it was definitely great. They also put baking sheet paper or something to prevent the oil to sip through the paper basket. I can’t give 5 stars for this dish cause it was so greasy, otherwise, it tasted very good, but I really wanted to come back and try the spicy pork burrito, for $ 6, I think the price is not bad and the amount of food you got was plenty enough to fill your stomach.

Historically pigs have always been associated with negative connotations but this pink colored truck sure repudiated all of those stereotypes. I stumbled upon the Flying Pig Truck on the UCLA campus and an instant flashback of Ching T, Helen K, and Jenny B’s review led me to give them a lookie lookie. The menu was filled with Chinese-style tacos, sliders, and buns and since there was no line I saw it as a perfect opportunity to jump in and give them a try. I ordered three items, and this included the Braised Pork Belly Bun($ 3), which came with a thick slice of marinated pork belly that tasted tender juicy when sandwiched in between red onions, escabeche, sesame cucumber and a small white Chinese steamed bun. The steamed bun was the thick fluffy ones that restaurants use for Peking duck and the result was super delicious, robust, and flavorful. I’ve never had a tiny little bun so tasty with an instantaneous wow factor that kicked in so fast to lead me to craving for more. Next, I tried the Spicy Pork Taco($ 2.50) which came with strings of green papaya and a sweet cilantro cream. The pork was also nicely seasoned with a pronounced savory flavor to nicely complement the surrounding sweet elements. The size of the taco was also pretty small but the double deck tortilla was nice and sturdy to hold everything together. Finally, I gave the Tamarind Duck Taco($ 2.50) a huge bite, and the toasted almond, pickled beet salad, and tamarind oranges that complemented the tender juicy roast duck was hella mouthwatering badass. All three items were extremely delicious, well put together with ingredients that encompassed elements of originality and creativity with noticeable roots in Chinese culinary know-how. Unlike other places that tend to throw things together and call it a day, there is actually a thoughtful process to which their food is put together. In retrospect, this truck has impressed by far when compared to all others I’ve tried. However, the high cost of their items is the primary reason that I cannot afford to render a 5-stars rating. I can see big eaters ordering at least six of the pork belly buns but I would suggest for anyone to start with three from the menu for a modest meal that comes under $ 10. Service was very fast and efficient. I’m already rolling up my sleeves eager and ready for their next visit to campus. It was that good!

Tried their braised pork belly slider with red onion escabeche and sesame cucumber $ 3 and their tamarind duck taco with toasted almond, pickled beet salad $ 2.50 The duck was okay. I did not really like it that much. I could not even tell it was duck. It didn’t taste like duck. I’m more used to Peking duck though. Their braised pork belly slider was good. I liked it. It came with a weird kind of bread. it wasn’t a taco or a tortilla. It seemed like the bread similar to the white buns. The only thing about this I didn’t like was that they only gave one piece of meat in this thing. And the meat was tiny. About 1inch x 1 inch. If you order this, try seeing if you can get double meat.
