Get in Maria’s line. She smiles when she speaks and is so sweet. She makes running to the grocery so pleasant.

They tightened up on their couponing policies, so much so that it is unpleasant. Stay away from the Chinese lady at the register: She goes through everything looking for every minor exception that can be used to DENY you a discount. Couple that with the already outragious pricing, especially in the produce department — where you will pay 3x to 4x the prices of produce across the street at Trader Joe’s — and it’s a formula for a poor experience. I should also add that they backed away from their verbal promises to honor expired coupons which is pretty low. Now onto the store itself: At any time of the day or night the shelves are being restocked at multiple places in the small cramped space. The slothlike employees stumble around trying to put things on the shelf inconsiderately blocking customers from getting merchandise. They leave ladders and stools in the aisles blocking carts and making it difficult to navigate a cart, let alone walk around. It’s stressful to shop there. Meh on this place. There are better and worse but often much cheaper places. I think I’ll only go here now for the rare things I cannot get at TJs or in other markets.

Holy smokes, this place is overpriced! And the thing is? It’s not even overpriced for good quality food, like Whole Foods. Yeah, I read the other reviews that echo the same overpriced sentiment. But the reality of it was so much worse than I walked in prepared for. Gelson’s marks up regular old brand-name items by at least 50 cents or $ 1. One Mexican Coke? $ 1.59. Haagen Dazs ice cream? $ 4.99(just reduced…). Even the price on Honey Nut Cheerios seemed exorbitant and that’s not an item with which I shop around for prices. This is definitely not the grocery store to do your regular shopping. HOWEVER, I do love that there are things here you can’t find anywhere else. I found gluten free items I haven’t been able to find at health food stores, Whole Foods, or any of the regular grocery store chains. They had CPK frozen GF pizzas, fresh gluten free pastas, and so many different Feel Good Foods items I’ve never even seen. This is a place for target shopping. Gelson’s, I’ve determined, is where you can get your specialty items that can’t be found elsewhere and any produce you need to be extra fresh and pretty. A big bonus was how nice the staff were. When I was looking at the beautiful display of packaged fruits, a worker offered me a fresh package of watermelon instead of one off the shelf. The checkout guys were super nice too! But sorry, that’s not going to make me overpay for my standard groceries. I’ll be back for a few things every so often, but my weekly grocery shopping will definitely be done elsewhere.

Slowest Gelson’s of all time 30 min to get in and out with a deli sandwich. They don’t even have turkey bacon in the deli. Typed this whole review while waiting in a check out line behind one person, which took at least another 10 minutes — I read a whole People magazine ANDUS Weekly.

Come here almost daily. The deli department seems to most of the time have their shit together. I think the store needs a makeover and it’s lacking a bit more fresh feel considering how much people are spending there. They need to also hire new culinary staff because their hot food bar looks and tastes like el pollo loco meets sizzler. No thank you

Oh man, their bakery is so good — chocolate florentine cookies, fruit tarts, Danishes, etc.

Blown away by Gelson’s produce people, at Hyperion and Griffith Park Boulevard. Never too busy to drop everything they’re doing, to cut you as many tastes and samples as it takes, to send you home with exactly what you’re looking for. Awesome. Totally awesome.

Horrible service! The first thing I encountered was the stale smell. Then I saw the miserable looks on the unapproachable employees. Then a horrible manager named Luis who probably should not be working in service, is visibly judgmental of potential customers, and refused to tell me the Gelson franchise return policy, instead endlessly choosing to mansplain his personal opinions. Horrible. Isn’t it illegal to refuse to show a potential customer the return policy?

I’m sad that this gelson’s doesn’t have as much variety in the hot soup bar department as its weho counterpart. I don’t always want to eat chicken noodle or tomato bisque… Produce here is great and very fresh, fresh meat comes from many different animals but lacks in actual variety, and be prepared to wait at least 10 minutes to get ½lb of meat from the deli. Seriously, how do these people slice so slowly? I always tear up a bit when my total is revealed to me at the register.

I’ll go here when Trader Joe’s is closed or if I have one of their rad spend 20 $ get $ 5 off coupons. My issue with the higher prices here is that they majorly markup some of their items that are are readily available somewhere else, and multiple grocery store stops is sooo annoying. However there are a few things I really like about Gelson’s. In the produce section they have sweet potatoes already prepared to be baked into some delicious fries. My patience is low though so I put them in the microwave for 5 minutes instead. They have a good kale/cabbage/carrot mix that I buy all of the time. A lot of yogurt variety, and a LOOOOT of ice cream. Some top notch sh*t, too. I don’t buy it though. I just stare at it for a really long time and imagine how amazing it tastes. They even have the restaurant-ey part and the café part which is pretty good. I haven’t noticed many hot people there, though. The hottie talent is much higher at Trader Joe’s.

Please do something about Fraudulent charities that sit outside of your establishment asking for donations… I, and many others have fallen victim to this and it’s your responsibility to protect your customers. The fake«charity» is called The Jacobs Deliverance Foundation. There are hundreds of fraudulent reports about them online. PLEASEKEEPTHEMOUT, but please continue to keep the Girl Scouts… Love those Thin Mints.

Here’s how things are going to go… 1) You walk into a jammin’ grocery store. 2) You find pretty much everything you need on your list. 3) You go to pay and it’s expensive. Not super interesting? Mickey Mouse was born here.

Ah Gelson’s:) There are two markets that I frequent,’ and Gelson’s is one of them. I absolutely love walking in to Gelson’s and seeing their holiday displays… As if you didn’t already have a list of things to buy, you will be picking up several more items just from the displays of fun and festive treats and things that they showcase so beautifully… Price wise, they are a tad higher than your bigger chains, but the quality is there, and that’s what counts!

Dear Gelson’s Yes, you’re overpriced, Yes you’re deli section is pretty predictable, Yes I miss the amazing corn chowder, and Yes I continue to buy stuff from here. I know alot of us vent and get upset at the ridiculous prices but don’t forget there’s a Trader Joe’s across the street and a Ralph’s about ¼ of a mile away. If you don’t like it, don’t come! I really only come here for soup and deli anymore, I do my shopping elsewhere. I mean 4 bucks for a carton of juice is a little much, or 5.99 for a bucket of Ice cream.

Incredibly over priced produce, meats, fish. Pretty much everything on the shelves is expensive. So why come here? Location, wide open parking lot, easy to traverse store, good customer service. Expensive merchandise then becomes worth it. I won’t buy my produce here however since I can’t justify $ 12.99 cherries or the $ 3.00 avocados but will buy the $ 12.99 bison and $ 9.00 salmon because the location works for me.

I frequent this Gelson’s often when in the area looking for vegan food. Last week, I was looking for vegan stuff when this awesome worker, Daisy, was able to help me find all the vegan food I needed, and even helped me through the food bar area where I have since found I can make some great vegan creations. And some vegan ice cream in the freezer!

Love this place! Each time I am headed to The Bowl I stop in here for our picnic dinner — be it sandwiches(amazing), sushi(yummy), to hot meals or fresh salads from the deli area or salad bar. A fine selection of wines and other beverages and of course yummy desserts! Only negative the parking lot is a bit tight and some of the drivers a bit crazy!
