Gold Dollar has unfair and rude customer service. I purchased an item there in cash. It was overpriced and luckily I ended up not needing it. The receipt said returns on cash purchases are accepted within 7 days. I returned to Gold Dollar the following day with the item completely intact and unopened, and the receipt in hand. The store owners refused to let me return it. It’s very shady to refuse a return, especially when the receipt itself says I can return it. Although I explained this and asked why I wasn’t able to return when the receipt clearly explained their return policy, they pointed to a handmade sign in the store that says«No Returns.» They refused to recognize that the policy on their receipt needs to be upheld. I’m appalled by the terrible customer service and lack of common decency of this establishment. And for a discount store, the prices aren’t great, anyway. Will never return.

This place is epic. Everything should be 3 times more expensive and they have literally everything you could need for a house. I’ve bought everything from T-shirts to strainers to hammers to Halloween costumes to wine glasses(’cause I’m classy AF) and everything in between. The place is walking distance from my place and so if you are in the Arts District, go hear to help with your move in…

This place has everything and so cheap! They are very nice there and if you live in NOHO its worth stopping by to save a couple bucks on some key household items! Now its not all good it is a small dollar store so you get what you pay for. I bought some plates, cups, a U-lock for my bike, a carabiner, a manual juicer, an HDMI chord, and some detergent. All that cost about 15 dollars which was incredible! My carabiner broke to pieces the next week and the manual juicer is kind of dull and useless. everything else though was fine. So as long as you realize there are some things that just aren’t cheap and are wroth the extra coin. There are some items that are lacking in quality, but for the most part its a small very cheap and convenient store I suggest that everyone checks this place out.

Of all the dollar stores around I must say I like this one most. Selection is good and they have Red Bull for $ 2 which is cool! They have a good tool department for getting little jobs done around the house, and they also have a good paper section which is good for padded envelope mailers, bubble wrap, and ink jet printer paper as well. They sell Mobil phones and accessories in the back. I give it 5 stars because I’ve never had one bad issue. My daughter bought a back pack there once and realized she didn’t like it after a few hours and they accepted her return with no problem and gave her a refund. They could have easily just said no like other places. Right on!

UPDATEDOCTOBER2013. After dozens of happy shopping trips where my dog was tied up inside on the walk way that leads into the store, I noticed a big NODOGS sign up on the main door. So they are no longer DOGFRIENDLY. There are many stores that have somewhere to at least tie up a dog. This is a neighborhood full of apartment buildings and people who have them in apartments that go walking. There must be 35 dogs just on my street! So being dog friendly is NOT just about the dog being a service or companion animal. It’s about moving towards LA being a NOKILLSHELTERCOUNTY! it isn’t difficult to make a store dog friendly. Take a hint from all the stores along Magnolia Blvd in BURBANK that are. There you will find not only places to tie up, but water bowls, treats, and invitations to come in with your dog! All it takes is screwing in a brass HANDEL outside the store to tie up on. My feeling is that from now on I’m just going to keep on walking by! This is a clean, well organized store that has many of the products you’ll see at other discount and dollar stores in the area. The owners/managers have a decent atttide about customers and will try to help you if you need to see something out of its package before you buy it. Thus this original information I posted is no longer valid. THEYARE«NICEDOG» FRIENDLY. You can tie your dog up indoors on the railing so you can stop and shop while taking your dog for a walk. They have an isle of food products — no produce or meat — that are well priced but do not take EBT(CalFresh) for these items and are a CASHONLY store. There is parking behind the store. There is a cell phone store within Gold Dollar I know nothing about. UPDATEAUGUST2013 Recently I noticed for the first time a hand lettered sign posted below the cashier’s station that states that they have a no return/refund/store credit policy that I hadn’t seen before. I’ve asked to see items out of their packages and the cashier has done so willingly. So if you don’t know, I’m on a rant to make more shopping DOGFRIENDLY. When the LACOUNTYSHELTERS send 40% of all the critters who enter to death, because there is no budget or room, and they want to reduce the amount of time an animal is kept from five days to three, the solution is that more apartment dwellers be able to have pets in their homes because there really are LOTS of people who want a dog or cat but CAN’T, which means we need more apartment owners who understand the need, more dog parks, and more places that offer the pedestrian DOGFRIENDLYSHOPPING! It’s really easy… all you have to do to make your store dog friendly is… put out a sign in your window that you’re dog friendly, put a bowl of water outside for the doggies(some of the shops along Magnolia in Burbank actually put out treats!), put a brass handle on the wall of your building for tie up…
