If you’ve ever wanted to go to Morocco but haven’t had the chance book yourself a room at this hotel when they reopen. I’m really hoping they update(bathrooms are clean but need some love) but keep the magical Morrocan décor. It’s romance, it’s adventure and best of all its smack dab in the middle of downtown Los Angeles, walking distance to great food, theatres, concert halls. For people who lament coming back to a sterile hotel the fig will warm your heart with its outdoor bar and pool side lanterns. I’m not sure what the renos will involve but hopefully an upgrade on the beds. I have to say that for anyone who needs a firm mattress to get a good nights sleep you probably want to book the doubletree and just come for a drink to enjoy the ambience. But give them a call and ask — the staff are friendly and helpful and honest about the rooms.(some of which are very small)

Favorite place to be. Really sad that they are remodeling, the décor was out of this world. So magical! Super friendly staff, and comfy/clean rooms. I loved exploring here.

Recently came to Hotel Fig for a birthday, wow I was really impressed. From the exterior, it looks like a run down old school LA hotel, I didn’t really know what to expect, but I was really pleased. The Moroccan theme was striking, from the tiles on the floor when you walked in the the outside decorations, you really felt the theme throughout the place. Although I can’t speak for the rooms, I wasn’t a guest, my review is for the hotel pool and lounge area. The crowd seemed early 30’s, really chill outdoor bar, their were lights around the pool which really gave a rustic and romantic vibe, there was a DJ playing hop hip which I love because once we had a few drinks I wanted to dance. Hotel Fig was chill yet really fun which is really hard to do. This is the perfect place to have a birthday with friends.

This place is so fun! Note– this review is only for the bar and patio area, I have not stayed here. I’ve gone here a few times with friends after a Lakers game and it is great! The hotel is beautiful, much more inviting than it appears on the outside. The bar area usually has a DJ, which is really fun. The drinks are awesome and you get complimentary chips and salsa(if you want it). I love sitting outside, having a drink and enjoying the LA skyline. Check it out!

Pretending to be Boutique, its just not upkept so well. The room was small, but clean, bed was soft but bathroom was dated. Staff where understanding and clientele where interesting(Europeans /hipsters). This would not be my hotel of choice in DTLA.

This review would initially would be a 2 but I gave it a 3 as I got a complimentary upgrade to a «king room»…even though the king room was two twin beds pushed together. Beware, when they say«two beds», they are talking about two TWIN sized beds. The rooms in this hotel are tiny and it is your no frill hotel room. Mildew smell is of the norm and you will have TERRIBLE lighting for getting ready. Valet is $ 30/night plus tax. It is convenient to the convention center… which is how I ended up here.

First time in LA for the lakers game and I found this gem. It was less than a five minute walk to the staples center which was perfect! When I first walked into our room I was so excited. It was absolutely adorable! The bed was comfy and the tv had some HBO channels. There are two small reasons I didn’t give them 5 stars. It is downtown LA so all morning while I tried to sleep there were sirens going off. The second reason is the shower is for short people which is a good thing for me but it wasn’t for my 6ft boyfriend. Next time I’m back in LA this is the hotel I’ll be at!

The location is perfect especially if you are booking at Figueroa to stay after a concert. The hotel is left than 5 minutes walk from the Staples Center, also great views from our room plus friendly staff. Looking forward for my next stay at L. A Live and 100% sure that I’ll be booking here again.

I like the place, I like the vintage feel and historic look. I did notice that there were two pairs of earplugs on the night stand… I then remembered the couple in front of me at check-in being told, «You won’t have to worry about the DJ, your room is on the other side of the hotel.» DJ + a room three floors above DJ = a bed on the dance floor. Ummm, I’m not wearing earplugs to sleep. I hope that during your renovations and upgrade to better windows… that issue will be taken care of. No bueno. Ask for a room high up and on the Fig or Olympic side… DONOT get a west facing room or you’ll be Whippin’ and Nae-Nae’ing all night long!

So I was really looking forward to a night away with my husband minus our son. Going to a clippers game and dinner. Checked in and everything was fine. Room was extremely hot, turned on the AC, and it wasn’t getting cold. Maintenance came and had to clean our AC because it was super dirt and air wasn’t going through. Room was nice large but the bathroom was soooooo small. Had a flat screen TV, weird thing was the tv made noise when you changed the Channels. My husband is 6’3″ and too tall for the bathroom and shower. It was really disappointing, I felt claustrophobic. Our reservation came with breakfast, I called when we booked our reservation to ask if they had gluten free options and I was told they did. Yet when I just went to have breakfast I asked about their gluten free options the lady looked at me like I had three heads. So I said so you don’t have any gluten free options? She said, it’s a buffet everything is free! Yeah so she basically barely understood English, so I was pissed. Went upstairs grabbed our stuff and left. I love most of the décor and the history of the building and how close it is to everything. But not being able to bathe or eat are a draw back. Also everything is very dusty, especially in common areas. And most of the chandeliers are too low, my husband had to walk around their else he’d hit them. Also the elevators are so slow, we tried to walk down the stairs and when we got to the 2nd floor we had to wait for the elevator because the stairs were blocked, with what looked like vents. For the price of what we spent, almost $ 300, we could of stayed in a much nicer and cleaner place. Will not stay again.

Loved my stay at the Hotel Figueroa, definitely not for anyone looking for a traditional hotel stay. The hotel is located in Downtown LA; valet parking was $ 33, we ended up parking about two blocks away for $ 8 a night instead. The entire hotel is Moroccan themed, offering a poolside bar and restaurant. Upon arriving we received a free upgrade since we were staying for an entire week, which was awesome! Staff was super friendly. There were a handful of parties through the week /weekend we stayed at the hotel which was pretty cool. Only complaint I really have is that the A/C wasn’t working very well in the room we stayed in, neither was the refrigerator both which seemed really dated. All in all, great stay!

This Hotel is definitely interesting with a spooky history and colorful eclectic décor… The Lobby was beautiful and the counter ladies very welcoming. The history and style of this place is what really attracted me to have a little romantic staycation here… but it’s loud ac, bad DJ, bad carpet, broken water fixtures and awkward energy is not not something I’d bother to visit again. Andddd by awkward energy I mean its definitely haunted ! The elevator surpassed our floor multiple times and I couldn’t help to wonder what the taping noise was in the room at night. But hey Maybe old buildings just do weird stuff ? I loved the pool area and house made chips until we were smoked out by a several groups puffing away near the pool on their cancer sticks(eww) I had reserved the Deluxe King room but wasn’t to excited when I laid my eyes on it. The web photos are definitely misleading !!! I do have to say the bed was soft/clean and the water pressure was great.(However we are in a serious drought and they should maybe get some water saving shower heads) Overall it was not a bad visit, it was indeed a interesting hotel with lots of character that simply just needs some serious room renovations and TLC.

1– I do not recommend this hotel if you like clean places. The hotel is nice because they kept the history of the hotel but the room is really bad! I would never recommend someone to stay by yourself, it looks like that ghost can come out anytime from the corridors! Check the rooms pictures., I will never come back! hotel rooms needs some remodeling really bad!

According to the Los Angeles Times, «The 12-story Hotel Figueroa opened in 1926 as «an exclusive women’s hostelry»(April 23, 2015). It was also highlighted that Hotel Figueroa was«Created by the Young Women’s Christian Assn., the hotel catered to «business, traveling and professional women,» the newspaper said. Married couples and their children could stay on the first three floors, while the floors above were restricted to women.» In addition, the Los Angeles Times noted that«Adrian Scott Fine, director of advocacy for the Los Angeles Conservancy, a historic preservation group. «There was a real need for young women moving to cities to have a safe haven, a place where they could land, get a job and figure out where they were going. It was a safety net for so many.» We stayed here due to the closeness vicinity with the Los Angeles Convention Center. It is literally, a nice 10 minutes walk and right across«The Original Pantry Café.» It is also right in the heart of downtown Los Angeles and only minutes away to LA Live where you will find endless of good food to eat. Location for sure can’t be beat! Our overall experience here was fantastic. The staff were very nice, our rooms were very clean, and we even had plush towels to boot, and our room got a nice view of the outdoor pool. Interesting part though, we noticed a pair of «ear plugs» on our night stand which later, we heard music playing outside. Not sure if it was a band at the club, or just noise in general. Either way, we were cool with it! Hahaha… Can’t win them all! While we understand not everyone may appreciate the«funky and quirky» décor of Hotel Figueroa and to some it may be dark and lacking the modern amenities like a door card key; but, if you look all around you, Hotel Figueroa has so much great details for any artist or architecture lovers who appreciate historic buildings. It also offers an educational value, right in the heart of downtown Los Angeles. Until then, Cheers! ~ :p

I haven’t stayed at the Hotel Figueroa, but like many Angelenos, I have visited for drinks. I’ve been twice, once in 2008, and once this past Wednesday. I’m obviously not a regular, but I like the place. When I was working downtown the summer of ’08, Hotel Figueroa was one of the only cool bars in the area.(Matt B., who worked downtown between 2005 and 2007, has been for after-work drinks several times.) I don’t remember much about it – I went with co-workers and I think I had fun, but also talked to someone obnoxious? The one detail I did recall was that the pool was shaped like a coffin. I was surprised and a little dismayed to discover that the pool was not nearly as coffin-shaped as I remembered, but maybe that’s not a bad thing. Otherwise, though, I had a pleasant time at Hotel Figueroa. I went for the Rattling Wall release party, which featured a reading in a large enclosed room adjoining both the lobby and the pool area. I spent pretty much all night between the pool bar and the reading room, and it was all very pleasant. There were plenty of places to sit both around the pool and on the covered patio by the bar. The décor was attractive, matching the lovely Moroccan theme of the hotel’s interior, and the atmosphere was nice and casual. I also liked the reading space, which was perfect for the event. There was even a small bar set up to serve attendees, so we wouldn’t have to leave the room for drinks. Service was great at both bars. I drank a couple Moroccan Mules and a couple Lagunitas IPAs. The Moroccan Mules were Moscow Mules with a bit of mint, and they were pretty tasty. I also got a quick dinner here, a platter of wings with fried pickles. The wings weren’t amazing – definitely could’ve been spicier – but they were serviceable enough, and they soaked up the alcohol. I wouldn’t go far out of my way to drink at the Hotel Figueroa, but it’s a nice place with solid drinks and a neat atmosphere. Even now, I’d guess it’s one of the cooler spots to drink in the area, and I’d recommend it if you’re looking for an easy bar in this part of downtown.

This hotel is.interesting. The lobby, bar, and restaurant are quite nice. The 2 stars goes to the lovely staff. But once you enter your room… It’s just disappointing. Musty, dated(not in that rustic, charming way — just plain OLD), and DARK. My room hardly has any lighting! I can’t see anything. It’s depressing, to say the least. The sheets and towels are rough, this zebra print chair in my room is HIDEOUS(is that even Moroccan décor???), and the bathroom is so so awkward. I regret booking this room. S.O.S!!!

I was pretty let down by this hotel. Its got a lot of character of course. The whole Moroccan theme is great. Its in an amazing location in downtown LA where you can literally walk to the convention center and Staples center. The hotel is old and the wear and tear is visible especially in the room I got. The bathroom was the worse. The paint on the toilet was almost completely chipped off at the bottom, stains on bed sheets, there were stains on the bathroom floor, stains in the toilet, and part of the wall near my side of the bed was open. They have nice new TV’s with satelite included. The two people that checked me in and out were very nice too. The parking situation is crazy. 24 dollars to park overnight in there lot or 33 dollars for valet. I know its downtown but I feel the prices could be way better for hotel guest.

Welcome to the mirage like oasis in the middle of the desert that is LA. This Moroccan style hotel is lavish from entrance to poolside to private room. I decided to take a stay-cation with my boyfriend and felt like we got to stay overseas without the price of airfare! Service was great. The accommodations were excellent and Mia importantly the bed was BIG and COMFY. The hotel provides wifi(that actually works) and cable. I would go back just for the day just to stay by the pool! The pool and jacuzzi is beautiful tiled and there was a DJ playing relaxing tech music. There was a taco man filling the air with wonderful aroma of asada and al pastor. The outside bar area is also very nice with seating and there was a good crowd of friendly people just looking to relax.

Come here and feel like you are out of the country~ Hotel Figueroa is a nice hotel with a cute theme located in LA near the Staples Center. The moment you step in the you feel the difference with the Spanish-Mediterranean ambiance. This place is so different the moment you enter all around with the dim setting, lighting fixtures, skylight, elevator, décor, walls, and every little detail has the rustic and ethnic vibe! –easy, efficient, quick check-in –regular key for door(no modern key card), door automatically locks when shut, with option for using double lock chain from the inside — decent petite queen room: smaller than expected, but still ample space with high vaulted ceilings, average shower, tiny bathroom space, sink located in common area hidden behind wooden shutter closet door that can open and close, small table with one chair, nice TV with TV stand that has dresser space, average closet with space no door though just hanging beads(missing one strand though) ;P — poolside lounge with a small little bar inside: convenient for grabbing bites and drinks and people watching This place is cute for the price, if you aren’t too picky you can appreciate the historic and foreign charm appeal of this place! :)

I don’t normally write reviews but I absolutely had to and all thanks to the wonderful Querida who helped us during our stay. The place was beautiful and very welcoming and located right at the heart of it all. Unfortunately our original room had issues but Querida was very kind and provided an upgrade for the inconvenience and provided what was hands down the best customer service I’ve ever had. The poolside bar and the room were awesome. The only reason I gave a 4 was because our room was dark and there was a weird smell coming from the closet but it cleared up after the 2nd day! All in all great experience.

Ahh yes here at one of the only Hotels I’ll stay at in LA. Why you ask? Well it’s quite simple you see there’s simply no Hotel like this in the world. The always pleasing getaway that makes you feel like your outa the country, The quintessential Moroccan themed paradise with a very friendly, knowledgable staff. Yes ladies and gentlemen the good old Figueroa Hotel! The happiest place in LA! Quick side note I took a star away due to the fact that they took away the free parking now you gotta pay like those other evil corporate chain hotels. That said I’ll take that in the chin any day to stay at a paradise like The Hotel Fig!

As soon as I walked into Hotel Fig I fell in love. It had so much character and it was just fun and original. They gave us actual keys to our room, not a key card; the hallway had payphones that you stick coins and the elevators didn’t have a panic button. I don’t think there were even any cameras in the hotel hallways. It was like an old school horror fick — and I love that! I stayed in a deluxe room. It was pretty spacious and the bed was like sleeping on air. But here’s the bad part… I couldn’t sleep. Ever. Apparently deluxe room means pool view. Pool view means pool parties all day and night. Loud thumping music and people screaming and dancing. I just didn’t sleep. At all. But I still love the hotel.

Came here for a quick drink after a movie at the nearby LA Live complex on a Tuesday evening. The place wasn’t crowded and we made it just in time for late-night happy hour(10−11pm; also available 4−7pm) which meant $ 4 draft beers and $ 5 well drinks, a GREAT deal for downtown IMHO(they also do $ 2 tacos on Fri, Sat, Sun!). Our bartender was really great with both quick service and wit. The atmosphere of the bar is super chill, located at the back of the hotel with lots of outdoor seating near the pool. It’s got a dark, old timey Spanish feel, perfect for lazy summer nights.

I love the ambiance of this place. Very morrocan/Spanish feel to it. Never been to a place so uniquely decorated and structured. I do have to say… going into the hotel room can be a bit creepy, like someone will jump out of nowhere and mug you. The hallways are lightly dimmed out at night and it looks very creepy and haunting… so I suggest to walk with a buddy. Unless you are that type that likes to get scared. Teeeheee. Didn’t spend the night here. Mainly came for my cousin’s Bachelorette party, more so just getting our drink on and enjoying girlfriend time with the ladies. Was thinking of spending the night but thankfully we didnt, or else me and my sister would’ve been uncomfortable sleeping on the cold tiled floor. So if you do spend the night and did not rsvp a separate room, come prepared with a sleeping bag. Room has two beds with a couch and a walk in closet, topped with a very nice view of downtown LA. Peeked from the window and saw the pool area which looked inviting. Parking available if you are OK paying $ 10 flat rate and $ 24 overnight. If you have never been, I recommend coming to this place. Wished I took more pictures of the room itself. Will def. come back to check out the bars/restaurant.
