Every Tuesday and sometimes Thursday I buy coffee or tea in Jimmy’s Coffee House. I enjoyed their tea and friendly staff for a numerous occasions. But yesterday it was really different. I got there at 6:15pm and bought a tea and a bottle of water. While I was buying a tea, I saw a few of my schoolfellows, and they waved to me. After I completed my purchase, I came to them to say hi, and we were chatting for 7 – 10 minute. I put my tea on the table. Then I took it from the table and squeezed the cup a bit more, than when I held it before, the cup’ top was not closed properly and boiling water spilled onto my left hand and severely burned it. After this happened, I ran to the bar and asked the girl, who works there — Abby, what was the temperature of the drink, because it feels unbelievably hot even in 10 min after I received it. She said that this is normal temperature for cooking tea, and stated that the stuff constantly burned yourselves. I asked her to call the manager or supervisor to get a report of accident, but she refused my request, and told me that the manager is not there, and she is in charge, because her position is the highest in this coffee shop at this moment. Then I asked her for a First Aid Kit or something that can help me to reduce terrible scald and I presented her my burnt hand, but she told me that they have nothing for that and pointed me to the convenience store downstairs, saying that they should have something. I worked there and unfortunately that store does not carry anything for burn relief. I feel very frustrated and sad about this situation, and can’t do my work now because of this incident.

I know better than to come here if I want a good cup of quality coffee, but it’s an early Friday morning and I was feeling the need for some caffeine before I endure a 7-hour work day; Lu Valle was my go-to place since it was the closest coffee place to where I was on campus. What a mistake coming here. My Iced Soy Vanilla Latte for one did NOT taste like an iced vanilla latte. Something felt off, something was probably missing, something was probably added mistakenly – I have no idea, but I could not even finish half of my drink. PROBLEM if I’m spending more than a dollar for this drink because what I had felt like it was only worth a dollar if not less. Just don’t come here. Even if ASUCLA gives you those coupons for free coffee when you buy textbooks. I didn’t use it here, but I won’t ever.

Would you like inconsistent coffee that never tastes the same twice? And a side of gritty mocha-powdered drinks? You got it! Lattes that are all milk and no espresso? No problem! Since you seem A-OK with all of this, we will also throw in a super dry croissant that’s been on the shelf 2 – 3 days in a row! I’m going to keep this short and sweet(unlike the coffee I get from here). Jimmy’s Coffee House is my least favorite coffee & study spot on campus(or anywhere, really), and I get a messed up order almost every other time I come — which is not frequently now. I’ll order a tall and they’ll give me a short; I’ll order vanilla something and they’ll forget the vanilla. The only thing I used to love was the Cappuccino Royale(a coffee-chocolate hybrid drink), but even that has been tasting pretty gross the last couple of months. DONOTWANT.

Selection of drinks is fine, coffee isn’t particularly bad nor good. They carry these vegan healthy ‘cookies’(well balanced between protein/carbs/fat), that are cool except for the fact that they are heart-shaped; they are also always out of the chocolate flavor.

Coffee and pastries were just fine here. Loved that it was virtually empty on Sunday though. Much quieter and less congested than Kerckhoff Coffee House.

Hahaha i’m at bunche/broad 50% of the time. And when i’m grumpy and sleepy the last thing i want is lukewarm coffee. Seriously, sometimes i wonder if it’s even room temperature. Oh, the lines are always super long too.

Thank goodness this place is open during my evening 6:30 — 9:30pm class at nearby Dodd Hall. After working all day, by the time half the class has passed, I’m in need of ANYTHING to stay awake. So on my class break, I go to Jimmy’s for my jolt of java. I liked the white chocolate mocha and they still carry holiday flavors like pumpkin spice and eggnog. Just enough stimulant to carry me through the rest of class. And service has been friendly every time I’ve been there. They also have fair trade drink options for just a little more.

A quiet study during the summer but overcrowded during the school year, this is one of the better cafes on campus. The place is conveniently located nearby LuValle Commons, the school of public policy, and the law school, and has student wifi and a nice people watch patio that catches a lot of sun. Service is efficient and drinks are pretty decent. I like their iced tea and soy latte and always ask for an extra shot of espresso. If there’s one limitation, it would be cleanliness as trash tend to fill the floors and tables without any staff(or offenders themselves) willing to pick them up. Otherwise this is one of the places where I hang out with my laptop, especially during those quiet summer days.

As a north campus student, Jimmy’s is my favorite place to grab a cup of coffee. It’s cheap, convenient, and has great service. All the folks who work here are super quick and friendly. It’s a terrific place to study and hang out with friends; there is a bunch of seating and even a fireplace. The pastries look really good though I’ve never had them. I usually order the chai latte or white mocha, which are always nice.
