OMG karipap. Curry puffs. Just like I used to get in the markets in Thailand. I remember them being much bigger here but the taste is get amazing. Sweet, savory, flaky goodness. The curry inside is made of chicken and potatoes and I think some type of raisins. The crust is also delicious. Ugh, my fav. This place has awesome desserts and they’re pretty authentic! The place is small and packed to the brim with containers of snacks and sweets. Literally take your pick. Which should include the karipaps.

This is a great mom-and-pop place right next to Sapp Coffee shop. After eating a bowl of boat noodles, stop by here to get some authentic Thai desserts. Inside feels just like Thailand. The owners are a very nice Thai family. They have the best fried bananas or «kluay khek»() in LA! The outside is crispy and covered in sesame seeds, and the inside is sweet and soft. They even fried me up some fresh ones and gave me two extra pieces for free! They also have tubs of «narok»() which is some sort of chili paste with either dried shrimp or fish. It’s really spicy, fragrant, and a little sweet! Spoon it on top of rice and it’s amazingly addictive.

Pineapple tart things! $ 5 a box. They used to serve them fresh but now they kinda give the day old stuff. It’s a little disappointing if you get an old chewy batch. If you happen to get a fresh batch there’s nothing as addicting as a pineapple tart. It’s a fried pastry filled with pineapple jam. Sounds simple but it’s really really so much more than that. Right next door to Sapp so if you’re getting your boat noodle fix go next door and get pineapple tarts!

Stopped by here after having an early lunch at Sapp Coffee Shop next door. Had some issues ordering because of communication(couldn’t figure out exactly what i was buying nor how much they cost), but basically I just pointed and nodded. Hahaha. I ended up getting deep fried bananas and sweet potatoes, and OHMYFREAKINGOD. THey were soooo delicious!!! Super oily and crispy on the outside, but sweet and soft in the inside… esp the deep fried bananas@!!! holy shit. They were nearly caramelized… I highly recommend you stop by this place and order what look like big chunks of fried batter on display. :)

Thai Desserts Stop #2 «What is the name of this place?» «I have no idea but it’s #2 according to its sign» which is in Thai and not English. I made a mental note that it’s next to Sapp Coffee Shop and fortunately, it wasn’t too hard to find on Unilocal since other reviewers made the same comment. Walking in, I noticed the place was jammed full of dry goods along with a greasy display of fried goodies and lots of clam shells of pastries to go. There were brightly colored shapes that they were pushing my friend to buy but she zeroed in on the chicken curry puffs and some other things. For three clam shells of items, it was $ 15. I’m not sure how cheap that was because we really didn’t want that much of everything. But it was somewhat hard to communicate we wanted smaller amounts of the loose items on display. There was a baby on one of the steel counters waving its limbs in the air. I was a bit worried about the little tyke. He seemed awfully close to the edge. A woman on a step stool was dropping things into a hot oil vat nearby. The woman helping us had to get change from her. I suppose there’s no cash register. I thought the chicken puffs were fairly good and not too greasy despite appearances. The custard over the sticky rice didn’t look like much but was actually very tasty. The Thai«tacos»(crepes with egg and coconut cream–«kanom beuong») were pretty good and we got a huge box of ‘em for $ 5. It wasn’t too sweet and the crepes were crispy. Parking is even more limited in this strip mall but there’s always street parking. Cash only.

Located next door to Sapp Coffee Shop, this store doesn’t have an English sign posted on the outside and their name is only printed on their business cards so it’s kinda hard to find it. Just remember it’s next door to Sapp. I popped inside to get some stuff to bring home. I picked up a portion of dried shrimp puffs($ 4 for 25), a portion of curry puffs($ 3 for 8) and some of this ground dried shrimp concoction which is sold $ 5 to a small plastic container. They won’t let you sample the puffs but if you want to sample the ground dried shrimp they’ll let you try it. There are 2 types… one is super spicy(that’s the one I got) and one which is slightly sweeter. They also have a selection of desserts and other snacky goods such as dried banana chips. The lady is patient and will help you out, but English isn’t very fluent here so be understanding. I had misunderstood her regarding pricing but I just let it go in the end since it was my mistake. The puffs were just so-so, especially the shrimp ones. The curry ones weren’t spicy enough and didn’t have enough flavor, however, the ground dried shrimp is so delicious and is perfect sprinkled over steaming hot rice. YUM!
