Mae Ploy serves a great standard Thai fare. The spicy noodles, pad see ew, and green beans with tofu are some of my favorites. Dine in has great service and pick up is quick. Delivery is slow but what can you expect.

I have been going to make way for quite a few years and have never had anything but excellent homemade food that makes me feel like I’m being in a family’s home cooking. I really enjoy this restaurant and go often with my friends. Please try it !!!

Authentic Thai food. This place is hands down, one of the best in Los Angeles. The prices are incredible. The food is insane. The staff are friendly. Situated in the beautiful Silverlake. We have been coming here for years. One of my favorite places to eat in Los Angeles.

Pros: People are friendly, and you would get a good service here. Cons: The food is not very good and it is not well cooked compared to other Thai restaurants.

Food: Bombest curry — All colors of curry — Yellow curry, green, red, purple, blue. Yellow and green are the best. Green bean tofu is solid too. Pad Thai and pad see ew are ok. Soups are so so Price: reasonable, 10 for entrée Service: jolly folks, fast Parking: street and back Ambiance: nothing sexy but there’s a water fountain

I’ve been to Mae Ploy a bunch — that alone should speak kindly to the delicious food they make. I dig the Tofu Khao Soi a lot. It’s such a great mix of textures and the taste of the lemongrass and ginger gives the dish a nice pop of flavor. Runner-up for me is the Chicken Pad See Ew. Just a nice simple dish and the glass noodles aren’t too oily like other spots. And the staff is the sweetest around!

We used Amazon Prime Now for our delivery, fast delivery. Crappy food. My papaya salad was rubbery and the Mint Crispy Pork was AWFUL. There’s hardly any meat on the pork, just fat chunks. Yuck, never ordering again.

Love this place my family has been eating here since it opened in 1992. Great food and I highly recommend the thai iced tea. Delicious. I used to live down the block and we’d eat here 5 – 7 times a month. Now it’s rare but enjoyed every visit since then.

Thai Food restaurant in LA as good as popular Thai restaurants like Thai Paradise!!! My friend’s friend recommended this place to us. I noticed it was difficult to find parking since they have a small parking spot. Once we walked in I liked the friendly vibe of the restaurant. It looks a bit old but of course it was started in 1992, so I love that it has a lot of history. My friends and I ordered the pork, orange chicken, parang chicken curry, pad z ew saucy noodles, tom yum noodles, pad Thai chicken for about 6 people with some Sapporo! :) everything was so amazingly good! The food was great quality! The pork was finely textured. Orange chicken had a good texture, this was my favorite dish! The parang curry was a more liquid my version of curry, super good! Pad Thai was not too sweet or bland. Everything was really good! I would definitely come back here again. Would I come here again? Of course! Friends that live in LA that want thai food similar to SGV, can come here!

Cheap prices, good parking, semi organized service but those ladies have spunk. Food is alright, kinda greasy though. I went for my usual Thai dishes, chicken larb & spicy basil chicken, larb was ok but a little too much of something, I liked the flavor of the basil chicken but didn’t like that they used ground chicken. Cool little cheap spot if you live/work nearby but not worth a long drive

I’m basing my review off of how much I loved the Tom Yum Kai soup. My friend took me here on a rainy day in LA, I had a cold & she recommended this place for soup. It’s an older place, not fancy at all. But the staff are friendly & the soup was delicious!!! I had the Tom Yum Kai soup. A lemon grass soup with chicken, mushrooms etc. You can decide what spice level you would like to be added. I chose medium. I loved the citrusy spicy flavor. I got a brown rice on the side to add to the soup. Helped me feel better. I will come back for soup again.

I have been coming to Mae Ploy for the 30 years that I have lived in Echo Park. My grown son grew up on their tom ka khai and pad thai. I have lived on their green papaya salad through good times and bad. The curries have never varied from being just wonderful. And now there is even delivery! Not hipster, not fancy, not ‘cutting edge authentic’, no pigblood or dogs ears, just good olé tasty spicy sweetly charming easy to eat and wonderful to have around Thai but not too Thai food, at good prices made by lovely people. Works for me!

Fried chicken here is very good. I also love the wonton soup. It’s a solid thai place. If I didn’t live a block away I might not make the trip. It’s very good, but I wouldn’t call it remarkable. Check it out if you’re in the area.

I’ve been coming here for at least 20 years– its a good consistent place. Small hole in the wall so I usually do delivery. Most of the curries and noodle dishes are my standard. My personal favorites are the pad see ew with shrimp and the spicy noodles with beef(medium is not that spicy). I’ve tried the soups and rice dishes as well and they are also tasty. Service is short but prompt and food delivery is usually quick if its not during peak hours. I recommend this place for its consistency over the past decades. When mangos are in season, be sure to get the mango sticky rice and coconut milk dessert. Best part of this place: food here is cheap! Two noodle dishes with shrimp and a thai iced tea= $ 22. Can’t beat that.

Disappointing food, especially given comparable reviews to It’s Thai Hometaurant(which I will stay with from now on). Mae Ploy has been there for years, and so has the fried tofu, it seems. It definitely isn’t made to order. It seemed fried, frozen, and refried again. Very hard and dry. I asked twice for extra limes and got two wedges(instead of one). Cucumber salad isn’t on the menu but they made me a «large» one, which wasn’t very big and noticeably oilier than the usual salad. As the joke goes, the food isn’t very good and there’s so little of it. I was also there at 5pm while they were washing the kitchen floor and it was gross.

It was jus ok… The place: in a street that’s too crowded like every other restaurant in LA. The inside is ok. Can use some updates. Menu: overly crowed with too much items, nothing really stood out. Waitress: she was nice(Thai) style so if u r Americanize she would not pass. I do see how she treated the table next to us who were Americans differently which is funny to me. After she took our order she never returned. Food: we ordered pineapple fried rice, boat noodle, n sum tom. All too salty and wow I have no words for the papaya salad. How can u mess this salad up!!! it was the worst!!! The boat noodle tasted nasty, it was too salty n there was nothing special about it. The pineapple fried rice was full of curry powder which was too sweet. Overall it was the worst Thai food I have ever eaten! I will come back to this place it was horrible with slow and bad services.

2.5 stars on a couple of dishes… We came once and ordered the spicy squid with mint leaf $ 9(special request), Pad thai $ 9 and Tom yum goong soup $ 9. The location and décor is different but the rating is based on average tasting dishes and quite slow service. May be we ordered the wrong dishes. We’d like to come here more often as it’s close to home, but with better food elsewhere we’d need more guidance through the long menu.

Even though they serve it, are you really looking to order orange chicken, egg rolls or won ton soup here? Probably not. C’mon, don’t expect good Thai food unless you’re ordering Thai food. But hey, this is a Thai place that serves fortune cookies. I didn’t expect much either. I stumbled upon this place while driving by looking for another restaurant with a similar name. We made the most of our visit ordering the pad Thai with tofu, the papaya salad with dried shrimp, and the Chinese broccoli with crispy pork. The pad Thai was amazing. The noodles were perfectly chewy, separated and tasty. Not too oily and with a hint of sweetness. The papaya salad was really good too. I ordered it without peanuts and mildly spicy. I really liked how they shredded/grounded up the dried shrimp and sprinkled it on top. The Chinese broccoli with crispy pork was disappointing though. The crispy pork was stale and the dish lacked flavor of any sort. The food is good but the service is somewhat slow. With so many other Thai places nearby that serve delicious authenticity for less, it may be a while before I make it back here.

(Dined 04÷27÷14SU @ 2:00pm): No ploy here; just simple good inexpensive Thai food! Since I moved into the neighborhood almost two years ago, I’ve jogged by Mae Ploy Restaurant one my «Echo Park» jog route numerous times and always wished they were open on my way back home. Granted, it was usually in the morning, so no such luck. But this fateful Sunday afternoon, I was finally feeling better from an exhausting prior weekend that left me wiped out, and I ultimately missed a few days of work(oh darn). To treat my resurrection and the return of my sense of taste, I made the long walk and finally tried this place, and boy was I happy I did! Here was the grubbing: Tsingtao Bottled Beer($ 3.75) — Mmmm… tasty, and perfect for this warm afternoon. Chicken Satay with Peanut Sauce and Cucumber Salad($ 7.95) — You received five large hot skewers, each with a light yellow curry taste, moist, and supple. They were good enough to eat as-is, but I loved peanut sauce so I bathed my chicken until it was all gone. I enjoyed the peanut bits in the sauce and thought about asking for more to use with my entrée. The cucumber salad was simple and helped to cleanse the palate, although I wished the serving size was bigger.
Spicy Pork Noodles($ 7.95) — I had a choice of mild, medium or hot to spicy up this mound of layered and thick noodles. I was still recovering from a cold so I opted for a medium-hot level; I should’ve gone all in. I ended-up adding more chili sauce which also gave it a nice orange-red color. The pork was plentiful and too finely diced for my liking(I preferred slightly larger pieces of meat), and there was just enough vegetables. But I was pleased with the quantity and quality.
Service — I was immediately greeted by cheerful women and had my choice of tables(it wasn’t too busy). Pamela, my server, was very friendly and ready to take my order, but I needed a few minutes since this was my first time. However, she promptly gave me a glass of ice water, and minutes later she returned when I was ready. My beer came out quickly, soon followed by the appetizers, and finally the entrée right when I was about to finish-off the appetizers. After that, my water glass was only filled once and my empty dishes never cleared away. I didn’t see anyone again until I requested the check, which I then took to the counter and paid. So, the service could’ve stepped it up a bit. Parking — I believed there was a private lot behind the restaurant. However, there was plenty of metered street parking(free on Sundays, I think) along the main drag of Sunset Blvd. as well as the nearby side streets. I walked it from my pad, so no issue for me. Atmosphere, décor, ambience — From the outside, it looked rather gritty and rundown , but once you got inside, it was a little better. Upon entering, you walked through one sparse dining section that simply reminded me of a waiting area at a health clinic. The main dining room to the right had more character, color, and a tropical beach shanty appeal. There were several tables that sat between 2 – 8 people. Ornate decorations hung on the brightly-painted walls. There was ample electric and natural lighting. And, I saw one TV(it was off) but heard no background music. Attire — Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. Overall, I’d gladly walk a mile into Echo Park again for some good Thai food at Mae Ploy Restaurant. The menu selection was varied yet stuck to the standards, and your food arrived promptly. They also had daily lunch specials until 4pm, but needed a happy hour. What the heck — I forgot to check if they had Thai iced tea boba! I’d recommend they did something to the exterior to draw more attention and business; but then again, maybe not for selfish reasons. I found exceptionally good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above(total paid experience was around $ 21.00, before tip). In my opinion, they just needed to improve the service. And, they accepted my credit card of choice… AMEX! 4.5STARS
