Amazing food, service, and atmosphere, all at a reasonable price. We had 6 or 7 different plates and they were all delicious, with the Wagyu beef taking top honors(IMO).

Amazing, fresh, clean food! Loved my grilled eggplant lunch special dish. Lovely minimal décor, beer(Sapporo draft and some others in bottle) sake etc. nicely sized menu and fairly priced for the quality of food.

The restaurant is pretty small. A little nice sit down place to go to for good Japanese food. It’s a little different then the usual Japanese restaurants I’ve been to. The food taste much better then I expect it to taste. Every dish there was pretty good. I order one dish called the wagyu beef since I saw that it was one of the most popular dishes on Unilocal. To me it was okay. But my boyfriend really liked it. It wasn’t bad at all. Really tender I just thought it was a bit to chewy. I also thought their banana cream pie was okay. And again my boyfriend said that’s the best banana cream pie he has ever tasted. Everything else there that I ordered I pretty much loved. I had the ocean bite(albacore, tuna, and salmon), highly recommend the spicy octopus, and zuke salmon sashimi.

Lovely little restaurant with such a fresh, pleasant take on light Japanese fare. We had their special anniversary dinner, which is amazing — $ 50 per person for 5 courses + a generous sake pour. Good-sized portions, so grab this deal while it’s here(I think it only runs till end of November?). The food very much follows the«clean cuisine» practice, and the dishes are focused on bringing out the natural flavors of the ingredients and then adding light but still flavorful sauces and seasonings. If you’re used to heavier flavors and more saltiness to your food, this may seem under-seasoned to you. But give it a chance! The dishes are yummy. The presentation is simple but beautiful, with the veggies all sourced from local farmers markets. I’m sad my phone was out of batteries — otherwise I would have posted pictures, especially of the gorgeous veggie dish that was course #2. For entrees, we shared the lamb chops(perfectly cooked) and the fish of the day(cod?) — both were delicious. We were there on a Wed night when it was pretty empty, so I can’t speak to the service speed — but the staff is super sweet, and the chef came and said hello to us at the end of the meal and spoke about some of the dishes in detail, which was nice. I’m definitely looking to go back and try dishes off their regular menu. Everything was high quality in a comfortable atmosphere, and even with some good sake and wine choices, the bill was not too pricey. Easy parking in the attached lot for $ 4.

Main dinner portion will be reviewed at a later date. 7) Our friendly waitress from Nagoya suggested the special dessert plate that had a combination of: a) Vegan To-fu Cheese Cake which had smooth pureed sweetened To-fu w/a crust of oatmeal which can help to lower bad cholesterol. To me, it was a bit bland. Maybe an addition of Amareto di Saronno/almond liqueur or Frangelico/hazelnut or even Japanese plum wine would have upped the ante although this may not go well w/people who abstain from alcohol. Maybe drizzling it over the top for those so inclined would work. b) Raw Chocolate Tiramisu is rather unconventional in terms of textures. Classic Tiramisu is made from Savoiardi/lady fingers dipped in espresso, crème Chantilly/whipped cream, mascarpone cheese, powder bitter chocolate. However, Necco version is veganized using 95% raw ingredients like chocolate, cream made from cashews to make it gluten & dairy free. I may like the classic Tiramisu better, but this vegan gluten free version was quite good, although a good cup of rich black coffee would have been a good pairing. c) Banana Cream Pie: I usually dislike the flavor of bananas, but Necco’s version was exemplary. The usually, to me, funky odor of was minimized at the same time the good soft fragrant part of the banana came through. The To-fu purée was even smoother so it melted on the tongue delicately. Sweetness was like a soft comforting blanket on my tongue. Crust had a walnutiness as well as a refined softness. When I asked for a knife to cut the desserts in half, the waitress presented me the knife resting on a white napkin. 7a-c) Since there was no organic coffee, we settle for the organic Ryoku Cha/Japanese green tea which was more herbal in flavor w/less acidic or tannic sharpness. Necco approaches food from a more organic, vegan emphasized cuisine mode. This is not the standard«Japanese Joint» that hashes out Beef or Chicken growth hormone & antibiotic Teriyaki; Sushi rolls that are slathered w/thick unctuous sickly sweet«eel sauce» or drowning in Sriracha which in judicious amounts can be alright. 4+ Unilocal stars for healthful, thoughtful, nuanced foods w/kind, courteous, understated service.

Had 3 courses plus desert here. Overall a good meal. Started with pickled vegetables and they were a bit too much vinegar the kale salad was good with goji berries and tofu cha Sui very good. Next lotus croquettes were not that good and tasteless and tofu okinominyaki was ok again no flavor but the salmon sashimi was delicious! Main course tried the miso salmon and wagu beef both were delicious and all the sake pairings were great enjoyed all of them. Desert of banana cream pie and tofu cheesecake were not good flavorless and ended going to milk for delicious ice cream.

Dinner at necco is completely different from lunch! It is all small plates and tapas, which is great! Everything was solid and pretty spot on in taste and presentation. Baked oysters: the uni loses its texture and creaminess when cooked but still tastes good. Spicy octopus: fantastic. Great texture and lots of flavor. Only downside is that there wasn’t that much octopus(6 pieces) Ocean bite: 3 assortment of fish over sushi rice. Salmon with truffle oil, tuna with jalapeño, and albacore with ponzu and shallots. Lamb: tender, full of flavor and rare. Very good and highly recommended Necco is a bit pricey for the amount you get but the quality is well worth it. I’ll be back to try the rest of the menu.

My new favorite restaurant! Some of the most delicious, creative and beautiful food I’ve had in years! The service was perfect and the atmosphere is calm and pleasant, perfect for date night. Add to that, a menu that has excellent fish and meat options as well as a huge amount of gluten-free and vegan options it’s easy to see why this restaurant stands out amongst so many great Japanese restaurants in the area!

What a great place — the food here is unbelievable! It is more of an art form, really. We tried 5 – 6 different dishes and ALL of them were delicious. The staff is friendly, and the service is reasonably fast. The place itself is TINY — make sure to reserve ahead of time, or be seated at a tiny camped bar. I can’t wait to come back here and try some more deliciousness!!!

A couple of friends and I met for a mid-week dinner at Necco to catch up. Having seen the small restaurant not too long ago when I was dining at an adjacent spot, I’d bookmarked it and was excited to try it. We arrived early in the evening and for a brief time, we were the only patrons. Their happy hour(5:30−7pm) menu offers a sampler of spicy calamari, edamame, and necco’s potato fries, along with sake, wine, soju, and sapporo. They also had handwritten daily specials. We decided to order off of the regular menu — lamb chops, tofu okonomiyaki, and crispy brown rice vegetable roll. The three lamb chops($ 23) were grilled and koji-marinated and plated along with a few pieces of potatoes. Certainly the pork chops were well-seasoned and tender but the value wasn’t there. The portion size was small for the price. I’m not really a fan of okonomiyaki and Necco’s version with rice and tofu didn’t win me over. We finished with the banana cream pie, which tasted powdery. Service was good initially when we were the only customers. But as soon as the dining room filled up, service was essentially nonexistent. In my opinion, some items were overpriced including the lamb chops and the plum soda, which was $ 8.

Yum! Came here for date night and was pleasantly surprised by the beautifully plated and delicious dishes! My favorite was the wagyu beef with wasabi and mushroom purée, it was juicy and cooked to perfection. The waitresses were very nice and attentive. The head chef/owner, Kenji also came out to say hello, and ask how our meal was. I definitely recommend checking out this place! If you’re a fan of tapas and Japanese food, you won’t be disappointed!

This place is a few doors down from Sushi Masu. It’s a bit on the expensive side but definitely worth a try. We got about four dishes, Our favorites are basically the same as most people’s here –salmon sashimi and the lamb were the standouts. Although it comes in the form of small plates, the plates are a little bit bigger than most small plates and is more like a mediumish plate. Parking here is a pain just like Masu. We saw that most of the tables had reserved signs on them and I wouldn’t be surprised if it would be packed during a busy hour so do we we did and come early and avoid the problems.

A wonderful surprise. Small. Local. Fresh. Clean ingredients. I would call it Japanese fusion because I’m not sure what else to call it. Every dish was simple, clean, minimalist in presentation. This place seems fairly new so it’s not overly crowded yet, which I love. But I suspect that will change in coming months. Go now before it gets too crazy! Am a very big fan and am excited to go back.

I really liked our experience at Necco! They seem new and also probably not as popular yet so when me and my two gfs went to dinner on Friday night it was empty! It was around 6pm. I really liked the service. She was attentive, gave great suggestions, and was very pleasant. I loved the food! They have so many veggie options and I tried the brown rice veggie roll which was delicious and had so many delicious flavors and mushrooms. It was $ 13 and also looked beautiful. All our food was plated nicely and I think the three of us enjoyed our food. My friend who got the salmon sashimi said hers was good but it was on the smaller side. My other friend got the salad with albacore sashimi I believe and she liked hers as well. The place was minimally decorated but I liked the simplistic style. They have a good variety of options on their menu and drinks. I also got the hot organic green tea which was great and the waitress was great about coming a refilling our hot water. Will definitely come back! They also have a HH which looked pretty good except their food on HH is minimal and didn’t have veggie options.

Overall: The concept is wonderful, but the execution is not quite perfect. That doesn’t deter me from coming again to see if they’ve improved because it’s the closest thing to amazing modern Japanese. TIP: Their hot dishes are delicious. The dishes that require further refinement usually seem to be the cold ones. Food: 4 Nature’s Gift was an assortment of watermelon radish, asparagus, cucumber, broccoli, cauliflowers, and cherry tomatoes with a house made dipping sauce. Essentially, it was a bowl of very fresh vegetables with a wonderful sauce. But that was literally it. Compared to the rest of their food, more finesse and innovation is required. Little details matter, like peeling the raw cherry tomatoes so they burst in your mouth when you eat them. Satoimo Agedashi is deep fried mashed taro root with kelp noodles and a dashi stock. Yum. Order it. That is all you need to know. Ok, if you really want to know a little more, the dashi stock is on point and the kelp noodles go so deliciously well with the stock. The deep fried mash doesn’t seem heavy at all; it’s crunchy on the outside, fluffy and smooth on the inside, and it soaks up the dashi well. Tofu Shumai is made with shrimp and covered in mochi rice. These were deliciously similar to normal shumai. I just wish the rice was a little stickier and softer. Brown rice made it a tad too hard for me, but my friend actually liked it. To each our own. Zuke Salmon Sashimi was marinated in bonito soy stock and served with truffle oil, salt, and chopped onions. The thick cut of salmon was fresh, fatty, and flavorful. The bonito soy stock that it was marinated in enhanced the fish’s flavor without overpowering it, and the use of truffle oil was just right(again it’s used as a seasoning, not an oil). Raw Chocolate Tiramisu was rich without being decadent and not too sweet. My friend thought this smelled of alcohol(not the drinking kind), but I didn’t smell it. Vegan Tofu Cheesecake: I thought this one smelled of clay, probably because of the combination of almond and oatmeal. My friend doesn’t know what clay smells like(I question the quality of his childhood), but we both agreed that it wasn’t smooth enough and it didn’t taste much like cheesecake. I liked the berry compote on top. Service: 5 When you come into a traditional Japanese restaurant, their hospitality is astounding. Necco is no different. The waitresses are unfailingly polite and attentive, even as the restaurant fills up throughout the night. They anticipate things even before you realize you need them. Your water is refilled when it’s half empty and your plates are changed the moment it looks even slightly dirty. Ambience: 5 I love the aesthetics of this little restaurant. It’s small but it doesn’t feel cramped at all, and I like its use of wood. I also love the little flower arrangements on each table; all the bottles uses are unique.
