Ok so I’ve been meaning to write this review for a minute now, but just have not had the time so here we go. I’ve been reading about this mysterious quesadilla lady for some time now and a few months back I decided it was time I track her down. Needless to say after all the reading and reviews I had went through, the bar was set pretty high my friends. So I tried the chicharron and the chorizo both good in there own respectable way, but at this point I really was expecting to be in aww! She has different salsas ranging from mild to hot as hell! A lil to greasy for my girl at the time, but still tasty. That said I still recommend any Angelino who has the opportunity to try her needs to take a ride out to echo park and try one of these bad boys you can’t afford not too!

I tried the quesadillas here before I even knew they were famous! And YES — they are bomb. I don’t like most Americanized quesadillas because they tend to use low quality yellow greasy cheese but here they use very little oil and white cheese. I can’t wait to come back and try all of the different meats! The cart is conveniently located right next to a parking lot between echo park and the main shopping street.

One of my coworkers is friends with the lovely woman that owns this cart, and I’m so glad she(my friend) brought me here! The quesadilla lady — I need to learn her name — hand-presses blue corn dough into tortillas when you order, so you know they’re fresh! Then she loads that up with cheese and 2 fillings of your choice. Fillings are: chicken, chorizo con papas, mushrooms, some delicious gray fungi stuff that I don’t know how to spell or say(but you can just point at the jar if you’re a gringa like me), and squash blossoms(flor de calabaza). There’s also a bunch of self-serve jars with toppings: onions and cilantro, nopales, grated parmesan cheese, and a couple different hot sauces. The woman is so friendly — even with my language barrier — and I also really appreciated that before touching any money, she puts on a pair of plastic gloves. Clean and yummy :)

Being a west-sider, going to places like echo park to eat from a street cart seems a little strange. But here on echo park and sunset, tucked away just off the corner is the«blue corn quesadilla» lady. I walked up and by chance had met some friends from the night before. We had been trying to find the cart but she was closed and not there. So today I had the huitlacoche quesadilla and the chorizo and potato one at the suggestion of my friends. My lunch date took a chicken and mushroom and huitlacoche(a type of fungus that grows on corn plants and is a fairly rare delicacy). The total price along with a water and a coke was $ 17. It was well worth it. I was pleased to see that the lady hand-shapes her tortillas from dough. No presses or pre-made store-bought frisbee discs here! There is an assortment of authentic Mexican sauces and condiments. Including queso oaxaqueno(a kinda-sorta hard cheese) and nopales(cactus). The salsas are SPICY, even for a guy like me who does«death ramen» hot challenges. So go easy on it, because watery eyes and numb lips may result from too much…(Of course some of us like it that way). The texture of the tortilla is the star of the show here, out shining any of the fillings that go into, though I particularly enjoyed the huitlacoche one I had! This is a very nice experience for me and I will give it a deserving 5 stars because: 1. In the world of street carts, you won’t find better. The food is food-truck worthy. 2. There were people waiting in line for it 3. The food was hand made and had a «mom’s cooking» level of satisfaction.

Well this is our first visit, first sight the lady looks dirty, she touch her hair, and scratch her back. Her blouse looks dirty. The food is OK, flor the calabaza make sure to ask for fresh flor the calabaza if you didn’t ask she gives frozen. The huitlacoche taste great, and the blue tortilla gives the authentic Mexican touch. The lady is handle food she should be more careful with her aspect and cleanliness

Let’s get one thing straight. There are blue corn quesadillas available several places in LA, and most of them are very good– probably just as good as this place offers up. In fact, if you drive all the way down Alvarado Street from Echo Park and take a left on 6th Ave., you’ll find another cart just like this one, comparably priced, where the fillings are a more plump.(But the lady’s not as nice.) That said, this cart is AMAZING. It’s not unique(although it’s the only one of its kind in Echo Park, I think), but it IS awesome. I love their squash blossom filling especially. I was expecting the corn smut to be more pungent in flavor. It was quite delicate, to my surprise. If you get either of these feelings, please serve salsa sparingly(even if you love spice, like I do), so as not to overwhelm the subtle flavors of the toppings. Nopales are a freebie, as are cilantro, onion, green/red salsa, and powdered cheese that looks like canned Parmesan(but I know it’s not– what is it?). Extra shredded cheese is no cost. If you want half and half(or, as it turns out, «two toppings»), it’s $ 5. Otherwise, $ 4. One filled me up, but I can easily see myself craving two if I were especially hungry. LOCATION: If you take a right on Echo Park from Sunset, she will be on your right. The hours as listed on Unilocal are NOT accurate. I drove around for almost an hour trying to find her the first time. Turns out, she just wasn’t out. Evenings/late afternoons on Fridays and the weekends are a safe bet, I think. Enjoy! PS– I’m gluten free and this did not give me any problems at all. It looks like there’s no gluten contamination here, since the flour is all blue corn flour, with no wheat ingredients whatsoever.

Smut! Smut! Smut! I love smut! I’m talking about huitlacoche — corn smut. As sterling as the reviews of the Oaxacan Quesadilla Cart are, they cannot do it justice. As simple as the food is, it is exponentially more delicious. I came here on a Monday and ordered a quesadilla with huitlacoche. Alejandra measured out a ball of blue corn masa, oiled the griddle, pressed the ball into what would become a very tasty tortilla, sprinkled on some cheese, spread some huitlacoche on the cheese, folded the tortilla, and then served up the epitome of delicious for $ 4. I drove away happy. Then I circled the block, came back and did it all over again. It was just that good. The only drawback is that I have to wait until Friday to return. The location is not quite where Unilocal has the address listed. In the first block of Echo Park Avenue south of Sunset, on the west side of the street at an LA City parking lot is where I found the cart. Do yourself a favor and go.

A friend and I came here I a Sunday around 3 pm. We had heard about the cart but weren’t entirely sure where she was located. She is under a rainbow umbrella next to a parking lot. She makes the blue corn tortillas on the spot, she has fresh masa. I was impressed by her veggie selection and many meat options as well. I originally wanted a cheese only but I gave the flor de calabaza. She was really quick and there were condiments like salsa, cheese, nopales and onions/cilantro. The red sauce is really spicy(and I enjoy spice)! Need to swing by again. $ 4 quesadillas

I first heard about the mythical Echo Park blue corn tortilla lady a few months ago in East L.A. while downing a carnitas taco. Chatted up with two Chicana at the table talking about what else … food! Apparently, no one knew what days of the week and spot she had her quesadilla cart. It was like the search for the Lost City of Gold in the shore of El Dorado. I had to find her. Grabbing my whip, fedora and John Williams MP3 soundtrack to Raiders of the Lost Ark. I explored the wild jungles of Echo Park in my Nissan Maxima. The location to her cart is on Echo Park Avenue after you pass Sunset Blvd. You can park in the hills and walk down. I was in luck no one was around so I made 3 quesadilla orders — ½ Huitlacoche and ½ Pollo Flor de la Calabaza with Chicharron Papa con Chorizo. My favorites in this order were the Flor de la Calabaza with Chicharron and Huitlacoche. They both had a unique flavor and truly hit the spot with all the works. The red salsa is certainly spicy but that’s how I like to roll. But for the gringos, word of advice avoid drinking water if the spice level reaches your limit. It’ll only heighten the spiciness. Either drink a chilled coconut milk or almond milk to soothe your tongue. From what I understand, the«cook» spoke how majority of her clientele were Americans than Mexicans due to the price point. For $ 4 per quesadilla they can add up. But for those who were bitching earlier on Unilocal. The price off-set whenever health officials confiscate her cart and paying L.A. most corrupt fees. So have some sympathy she’s a hard worker and obviously put a lot of heart into the quesadillas. Compliment the woman if you’re seeing fireworks as you take your first bite of ecstasy. Just don’t PM me what’s in your nasty head.

I was recently recommended to try these famous quesadillas with hand made blue corn tortilla which is stuffed with a different choice of meat and they are amazingly tasteful. I tired both chicken and chicharron, and I would preferably choose chicharron. It is pure satisfaction, when you taste the chicharron, its just crunchy and good. Just by seeing her cook them will make you drool. I haven’t seen or even thought about the blue corn tortilla. I was told before she would sell her quesadillas for $ 3, but now she raised them to $ 4 each(just a dollar difference.) In my opinion they are worth every penny! I will continue going. Not to mention how polite this women is. P.S Her red salsa is so spicy but has a good flavor!

OMG… I came here just to check out the farmers market and fell In love with her food ^0^ the quesadilla is amazing! Love the shredded chicken and melted cheese inside the BLUE home made tortilla wrap. Yes! it’s BLUE I haven’t had anything like this before. I live in OC area which is an hour and a half far but yes I did come back the 2nd time for it, just so you guys have an idea how good it is. I also never thought she could be so famous too. I tried to look up for blue quesadilla in my area but she is the only one that shows up in google, Unilocal @_@ there is also few articles about her food. I will definitely come back for more. P/s: the quesadilla is no longer $ 3 it’s $ 4 now and beware for the red hot sauce, it’s really spicy, I cried the first time I try it.

Best cart food I’ve ever had. Move over bacon wrapped hot dogs. These corn tortillas are made to order filled with cheese and an assortment of meats. They are 4.00 each now. 2 will fill you up. I preferred the chicharones to the chicken. I will have to try the other meats. I found her opposite side of Walgreens on echo park near the public parking lot. The red salsa is beyond hot! Too hot for me. The green salsa was pretty mellow. Overall amazing. 5 stars for flavor!!!

I’m torn about this but I think overall these quesadillas deserve 3.5 stars. I saw all the ratings and got excited because I love blue corn tortillas and huitlacoche. If I see it on a menu I order it. We drove by the location on a Saturday around 12:30 and weren’t sure whether we would catch her or not. But there was the cart, alongside another selling bacon wrapped hot dogs(yum). We got one huitlacoche and one chicharron and topped them with red and green salsa, cheese, onions, cilantro, and nopales. After we finished we figured we could go for another and got the papas con chorizo. Honestly, they were okay. The tortillas are really good, but the fillings aren’t great, except for the selection(points for having huitlacoche and flor de calabaza). I didn’t get a lot of filling in mine nor a lot of cheese. I wish I had taken a pic of the inside because the cheese doesn’t look like Oaxacan cheese, not that she advertised them as such. My fiancé didn’t particularly like the chicharron. He said the meat seemed dry. The potato and chorizo wasn’t all that either– mostly potato and the meat wasn’t spicy. The red salsa is quite spicy and it’s good. Be careful with that one. The green is easier to handle. Someone ordered champinon(mushroom) in theirs and the mushrooms are canned, not fresh. At $ 4 each they aren’t cheap either. So I like the blue corn but that’s about it. Metro Balderas has huitlacoche quesadillas that are just as good, if not better, because they give more filling and there’s at least one truck I know of in South Central that sells them too, just not with the blue corn.

Was dying to try this place and finally got the chance! Check the hours as they’re quite limited. I got 2 quesadillas, one with chicken and potatoes, the other with carnitas. She rolls the dough right onto the grill by hand and all the ingredients are there in front of you. At $ 3 each, this is the perfect snack. I took them home, but I wish I had eaten them there so I would know to get another one. I liked the carnitas a bit more for the intense flavor. The other reviewers are right when they say the salsa is SPICY. I added the onions and cilantro and powdered queso she had. Metered/street parking. Look for the rainbow umbrella and a small crowd near a parking lot!

Blue corn tortillas are my thang, so when you say they’re made fresh with some added inserts and toppings, you definitely have my ears perked up. I stumbled upon the Oaxacan Quesadilla Cart while searching for the latest highly rated restaurants in my neighborhood and with high reviews for a cart, I couldn’t help but explore what the hype was about. A highly rated street cart in my neighborhood, that’s only accessible on the weekend? I definitely bookmarked this to add as a «to try» on my list. The opportunity finally arose one afternoon, when I failed to bring lunch to work and informed my co-workers that I was going to try an affordable Oaxacan Quesadilla Cart up the street. I pulled up the hidden menu that was only available from a helpful Unilocaler via the photo section, took orders from my co-workers and was quickly on my way. I lucked out on parking as I was able to find street parking since the street signs indicated street cleaning until 12pm and I was able to arrive a few minutes after noon on the same side of the street that the cart was located on. The experience was not just like an ordinary bacon-wrapped hot dog cart that you can see on any given weekend or night outside of a bar, but was just one woman who was not only cooking your quesadilla or huarache but also collecting your money with the slipping on and off of a plastic glove that she stored in her pocket. Most of her customers were Spanish speaking, so with my minimal Spanish and food-ordering skills, I was able to put in my order and receive it successfully. I did not hear anyone put in their order in English during my 15 minute wait. Vegetarians, have no fear, there are good vegetarian options as well as I ordered a quesadilla with cactus(nopales) and another one with mushroom, both VERY good. My co-workers and I were very happy with our orders, with the quesadillas costing $ 3 each, it made my office happy and full that day, putting a cap on our Friday. One piece of advice: if you are ordering for others for the first time, it may be more helpful to try to take them with you, as you will have to add your own toppings, cheese, salsas, etc. and everyone likes their quesadilla according to their particular taste. If you have a little bit more time, try to eat it right after you order it and order some more to your liking. It’s the best way to enjoy it, just like any street experience worldwide.

The blue masa sits in a big white bucket next to the Quesadilla cart lady. She takes chunks from her stash and pats out blue corn tortillas to be filled with traditional fillings like huitalcoche and chicharon. There is also a chicken filling for those less adventurous. You are allowed to dress the quesadilla’s as you wish with cheese, cilantro, onions, or cactus. There is a green salsa and a red salsa. The seating area consists of milk crates behind the wall in a parking lot littered with bits of blown away trash. The quesadillas are $ 3 each and she takes cash only. The hotdog lady sits next to the quesadilla lady and surprisingly she does ok with business considering the unique offerings of her neighbor.
