We usually pack our own picnics, but I’ve always wanted to try this. The food tasted OKAY, but it was ICE cold. It was advertised as «warm this» and«Hot that.» but it was just out of a fridge. The bread was stale and the salad full of dirt. For $ 89 they could have done better. PROS: easy to pick up and you get to choose your wine CONS: cold, hard to eat at a seat, not fresh

We went to the Bowl last night for the first time in years(we’d lived out of the LA area for 10 years). We didn’t have time to pull together a picnic, so we got a bottle of wine and figured, «hey, Patina caters the bowl — great». Well, not great at all. In fact, awful. We were thinking cheese and crackers, but the Market had very little to choose from — unless you wanted chips. We ended up getting two Bowls from Staccato. And regretted them. Chicken Bowl was pretty basic — except we paid $ 18 for it(and we’re no strangers to expensive dinners). Korean BBQ Bowl was just plain bad– tough meat, and not much else. Again, $ 18. Glad we brought a gourmet chocolate bar — it went well with the wine. We will not make this mistake again. I can completely understand why Patina Group lost this contract — they were simply resting on their laurels.

Service was good. However the side dishes were not that great. The filet was small for the price we paid. In addition was not cooked to order. Wine list was ok, but expensive. Lesson learned. Keep enjoying the bowl, but bring your own picnic. I hate the feeling of paying high prices for mediocre food and drink.

We ordered dinner for 4 and the best part was seeing the tablecloth upon arrival. I should have eaten that because the food was just awful. How can they claim its Patina’s chef? We ordered the fried chicken and I regretted that we didn’t pick up a bucket from the Colonel. A bucket was just what I needed to use for spitting out the gelatinous cheesecake dessert. Too bad. It would be nice to not always have to carry loads of bags with food and flatware to the box. But if you are considering having Patina at the Bowl feed you, better not. We were far from bowled over.

We have been season ticket holders at the«Hollywood Bowl» for sometime now, and have never been disappointed with the food and service we have received from Patina’s. The food has always been fresh, delicious, food presentation is excellent. The only problem I have encounter is what to choose from their wonderful menu too eat. Too many great choices to choose from. If you have not tried them I highly recommend that you do. Prices are also very reasonably for the quality you receive.

We pre ordered our dinner(Box Service) for the Ed Sheeran concert last night. We had three première and Spa Menu. Our table our was set up already when we got to our box seats. Nice table cloths, water and plastic wine glasses was provided. Our server was very nice and was on top of everything. She checked us out as often as she could even though she was busy. Food: it’s was okay, it was not as good as what we thought it would be. Some heirloom tomatoes were not ripe enough, the hanger steaks were over done, we ordered medium rare but it’s more of Medium well. The vegan teramisu didn’t agree with my palate. The sea bass was good! Salmon was okay but some of the kale leaves was yellow. The pineapple upside down was good too along with the cheese plate. Anyway, I am not sure if we still order again form patina. With the prices I think they need to upgrade the quality of the food.

I read the reviews and wondered why folks were so displeased. Some friends and I went tonight and had THE best time, our server was Megan and did a fantastic job, we had an appetizer, entrée and dessert. Honestly, could not find anything wrong!!! The prices are a bit high however, considering you are dining at the Hollywood Bowl it’s really not bad at all considering the venue. If you are used to fast food, then yes, this would not be a dining experience for you at all. But if you want to enjoy a relaxing, amazing dinner before you see a show then I recommend!!!

Our most recent dinner was a major disappointment. Service was very slow. Our main course was served fully one hour after we arrived and only moments before the performance. My fish course was raw and needed further cooking; not meant to be less than seared. Dessert was pulled away before we even had an opportunity to eat it. So much for turning my back to watch a performance.

I think it is lovely, delicious, and the wait staff incredibly polite and patient under the pressure of having to get diners along to the performance. I’ve eaten here for many years and although food may be overpriced, just like the wine… the food is wonderful and the presentation festive and since your main objective is a fabulous evening of entertainment(and you most likely brought your own stash of vino delectable) I will defer…

What a horrible place! If I only could give it negative 5 stars, I would. I am so sorry for all those people who are coming to Hollywood Bowl and want to have some upscale service before their shows, and this place just lures them in with the nice interior, and leaves them so disappointed with the service and food quality. I came to Patina at Hollywood bowl before a Bjork show. I wanted to have dinner, and found a nice spot. I ordered a cocktail(a very small size for $ 14!!!) and placed an order for a rib-eye and mushrooms on a side. I wanted my meat medium rare and when I got it, it looked like medium. I was asked if I was satisfied with the order and since I don’t really lie when I am not, I said that I think that the meat was not done to the order. A very attentive hostess offered a replacement. I was hesitant, but she was so eager to bring a replacement, I said OK. Some time passed and I have got a replacement. OMG, it was ALLPUREFAT. I couldn’t eat it, trying to chew, hoping with each piece that I will get at least a little bit of meat, but ended up with a pile of unchewable fat on my plate. Now, really seriously frustrated($ 45 for this piece of crap) I now asked for replacement pointing to the pile of fat. Very displeased, the hostess took the plate, and soon I was visited by my waiter who expressed that he was sorry that I was not happy with the food. More time passed, and I have got yet another plate. Now, the piece actually had meat, and it was cooked OK. Mushrooms were OK. By that time I was both really frustrated and hungry, so I finished my meal, paid and left. But the story isn’t over just yet. Now, I have to tell you that I have a very sensitive stomach. If the food is spoiled, I will get sick right away. It may be really nasty, depending on how bad the food was. Right after I left the restaurant, I immediately felt sick. I barely made it to the restroom. I am 100% sure it was the meat. My guess is — the restaurant was pissed at me for returning my dish twice. I don’t know what they did to my meat, but it caused me to stay in the restroom for a while, making me feeling very sick. When I got out, I returned and asked a manager for a chat. The manager(male, I don’t remember his name) was very rude. There was not a sign of sorrow on his face, instead he looked at me with hatred. They insisted that their food was of perfect quality and I must have eaten something else, that it takes up to 24 hours for food poisoning. I am an overweight lady, and I think they could have assumed that I eat everything I see and that had some junk food earlier, but I did not(I don’t eat junk food at all). The truth is, I barely had any food that day. And I know my body, and I know it was the meal in this restaurant that made me sick. After a very defensive and rude conversation with the managers in the restaurant when I received no sign of respect or care, I got back and complained to my credit card company that I don’t wanna pay $ 45 for a piece of meat that made me sick. I complained, my credit card investigated, but the restaurant insisted that«the service was provided» which I never said it wasn’t. I was just not happy with the quality, and now I am very sorry that I didn’t go to a doctor. They are lucky that I didn’t have to stay in the restroom during the show time. I never got my money back, and I will NEVER be back to this place and will tell all my friends how nasty it is. BEWARE! Especially when you have sensitive stomach.

This review is for having limited vegan options. The dinner salad with balsamic was about it. I know it’s not a vegan restaurant, blah, blah, blah. Having a single, tasty vegan option on the menu would be in keeping with the times, though. It really ain’t that difficult to do. Put some marinated vegetables on a skewer, throw it on the grill and put it over a grain. Done. Sorry guys — I’m sure your chefs are talented. But don’t you want us to all have a good time?

I frequent this restaurant and all of it’s affiliated companies and only have wonderful things to say about their food, service, and management, so I have ZERO idea why the below reviews are so horrible. You have to be pretty stuck up to leave a one star review after one experience at a 5 star restaurant! Either that, or cheap and inexperienced. Went for dinner before the Bjork show the other night and ordered a BUNCH of courses. The gazpacho was delectable– the perfect blend of citrus and spice, and the shrimp garnish was a genius addition of the perfect texture. I wish I could buy this in a can at the grocery store! The salmon was cooked perfectly– not too wet or dry. The chicken was some of the best I’ve EVER had– a perfect balance of white and dark meat, juicy and flavorful. It came with some kind of pickled vegetable sides that were nice and refreshing next to a hot dish in the warm evening. My friend ordered some red meat– filet Mignon maybe? Whatever it was, it was cooked about medium rare, which I normally HATE… but let me tell you. this shit was out of control good– and I don’t usually like red meat. This was served with some mashed potatoes that were so rich and creamy you might think it was whipped cream or something. Last but definitely not least was the pork belly, smothered in some kind of sauce and served with egg yolk. I am not lying when I say it was LITERALLY the most heavenly thing I’ve EVER put in my mouth. Thinking about it makes my mouth water and waistline expand. The service was great. Our waitress was very accommodating and sweet, and the managers always come around to make sure everything is perfect. Even the runners are nice and have a great sense of humor, which is appreciated when most people at 5 stars are stuffy. I feel like every time I go to the bowl I’ll have to stop here, because how can I enjoy a show knowing I haven’t eaten at Patina yet? EDIT: Forgot to mention the cocktails! We had the ginger /mint soju martini and the strawberry/basil soju cocktail. OMG. So good for summer! My friend ordered 5DRINKS!!! Thats how good they were. And the fact that they use soju I find wonderful because it doesnt get you«drunk» like vodka or any other kind of liquor– its much more subtle and manageable.

Ya, have to say the meal was very mediocre. The rotisserie chicken was the only decent thing but that’s not too hard to do. I think they need more seasoning on everything. The meals my family had were just a bit bland. We did enjoy the mashed potatoes that came with the steak, and my sister had an heirloom tomato salad that was good… but ya, I would probably just pack my own dinner next time for the bowl, but that’s just me.

The burgers are $ 13 but are nice and thick(1⁄3 pound), topped with romaine lettuce, red onions, tomato, mayonnaise, and cheese. It’s a decent burger but is it worth $ 13? You be the judge. I thought it was ok but pricier than I would have liked. But hey, if you’re hungry then splurge. I wish I had walked around some more because after I bought the burger I saw that they had a sushi place and Vietnamese sandwich place. A cup of wine will run you $ 8. I would have liked to get sangria but that was $ 28 for a whole bottle. A little too much for myself to drink alone. Perfect for sharing though.

I love this place! I’m not sure why it’s got such low marks. I will agree with some of the other Unilocalers, that it is expensive(Fliet $ 39, Beet Salad $ 15, Chicken $ 28), BUT I don’t find that to be shocking given its location/convenience. The food I’ve had here has always been delicious(filet, short rib, beet salad, wedge, caesar, soups, salmon) and the staff is always very welcoming and accommodating. I’ve been able to bring my own wine here(not sure if that has changed recently) and the ambiance can’t be beat. I’m a big fan of picnicking at the bowl, but occasionally, I like to splurge and come to the rooftop grill.

Rooftop Grill — excellent location, fine service and terrible food. I am not sure what has happened to the Patina group but they seemed to have lost their sparkle. If I were the chef I would pull the plug on the catering at locations such as the Bowl and Descanso Gardens and restore my once good name and reputation. The vegetables were all one more second of cooking away from being hospital food. I have never seen such yellow-brown broccoli. I am certain the potatoes were from the day before — along with most of the other selection my party had. I wanted to love this place, it was an honor to be invited — too bad the food made me feel like I was being punished! As Floyd Mayweather would say«Son, Step your game up!»

This is expensive but really you are paying for convenience and ambiance. You are on a rooftop and right next to the Hollywood Bowl. We had salmon, shrimp cocktails, strawberry fruit desert and wine. The total bill for the two of us was $ 200 including tip. The wine was $ 58 for a $ 12 bottle but again what do you expect. I was here because of convenience. It was a leased event so you can’t bring bring your own drinks to the Bowl. The weather didn’t seem like it was gonna be nice so my expecations was that we were just gonna go to the Bowl to see Star Wars with the weather being chilly. So we didn’t bring our normal picnic and drinks. It turned out to be better than I expected. The food is average so if you are rating on quality of food this isn’t your 4 or 5 star joint. This is a place you are eating outside, enjoying drinks and average food. The service is stellar, the ambiance is pretty good so you have to weigh where you want to spend the money. For a night you don’t want to lug the food around this place does the job perfectly. You can relax, don’t have to worry about getting there early to reserve picnic spots or fight for the sliver of grass available. When you have a family of young ones… and they are a handful… you got the means… you are lazy… then come to the Rooftop Grill. For regular Hollywood Bowl events I won’t since you can bring your own drinks but for leased events where they kill you on drink prices… not bad. I would suggest making reservations beforehand. We were lucky to be seated without one.

This review is for the Rooftop Grill: Yes, it is expensive stuff but if you don’t want to spend money on overpriced concessions, take advantage of the Bowl’s liberal policy and pack in your own food and drinks. One of our party had never been to the Bowl so we splurged on food before the show. We were over thirty minutes late for our reservation(thanks L.A. traffic!) but the hostess seated us quickly without even a grumble. Our overall dining experience was enjoyable. The wait staff to be speedy and accommodating. The food was pricey but the ingredients were fresh and our meal was cooked to order. Nothing tasted like it languished under a heat lamp. I don’t know if I’d return again. I think the next time we are in town for a show, we’ll bring in yummies from a local market and save the cash for our other favourite eateries in town.

I feel like a bit of a dummy for not bringing my own food with me to the Phoenix show this past weekend. However, we had never been to the Bowl before and had no idea what to expect. Feeling a little nibbly, Hubby and I opted for the burger and the turkey club at the concession stand. A burger and sandwich should be a safe bet, right? Uh, no. Apparently not. Even if they were half the price, they still would have been terrible. And yes, I think the price for both items was around $ 26. That’s kind of expensive for concession stand food. First of all, I expected to wait a few minutes but within 30 seconds my food was ready. That should have told me something. On to the chow… When I hear the words Turkey«Club», I conjure up an image of turkey, cheese and bacon. I think of flavor. This was not a turkey club by any stretch of the imagination. Even with the tiny packets of mayo and mustard they included, it didn’t do much to save this bland, watery mess. Hubby says his burger was a 5⁄10. He then thought about it for a sec and decided it was more like a 3 or a 4. I think he used words like hockey puck and gross. Nice. Absolutely DONOT buy the food at the bowl. It’s a rip off and tastes terrible.
