You want good quality Mexican fast food?! This is the place to go too! Everything here is amazing. I would always get Carne Asada burritos until I recently had a torta for the very first time in my life, and I must say that it was a game changer.(Might have changed my life) Haha Now you ask why 4 stars? Its because they’re not open on Mondays or Tuesdays. What restaurant isn’t open every day during the week? Other then that this is my go too Mexican food place in the area.

This place has gone to shit. I used to come here at least 2 times a week. I hadnt come for a while because they messed up my large order and refused to do anything about it. I decided today to give them a try again. Huge mistake on my part. They’ve hired a bunch of morons that don’t have any customer service. They said they ran out of shrimp civiche and refuse to make it even for a large order. The food doesn’t even taste the same anymore. They even cut back on giving the radish and grilled onions. It really sucks how businesses such as this start off so well and end up so bad just because they get a little popular. Note to the owners, FIREEVERYONE especially the girl with the lip piercing and run the restaurant yourself. You’re going to lose your customers.

We love Pena’s. We love the service Arturo, his wife and daughter give us. They are a hard working family. My family loves: Ground Beef Burrito Carne Asada Nachos Birria Tacos or Plate Carnitas Torta I hired Arturo for my husband’s birthday and he did a great job. He brought a guy that made the tortilla’s fresh. 3 or 4 kinds of meat. He would make tacos, burritos or quesadilla’s. Everybody went back for more. My only suggestion is to order for a few extra people, because everybody ate more then one serving. He brought delicious salsa’s too. Arturo and his wife really care about their restaurant. There has been once or twice I wasn’t crazy about the carne asada tacos or the al pastor. But with any restaurant they are allowed to have a bad day. But the other 100 of times we have been it’s been good. I do wish there rice and beans were better. I love the rice and beans at Los Burritos. Beans are very fresh there and super hot and cheese is melted on(I think he puts them in the oven for a few minutes before serving). Plates are warm and keeps food hot. But I’m not crazy about there meat at Los Burritos.

This place is perhaps the very best place to eat in Sunland-Tujunga, except for the high class Angeles Golf Course’s Agape Grill. Every time I go I am excited by the fresh tacos and incredible Chile Relenos & rest of the great menu — like fish burritos and super burritos & practically everything else. Service is always caring and with a helpful-Can Do smile. Mr Pena comes around every now and then and says hello. It’s more than the best Mexican food; it is the best places to eat in this entire idiotic small-town community hocus pocus, which has little identity other than the greed of local neighborhood and city council members ruining our time. And that includes awful places like Caruso’s — like the town’s service clubs, a total waste of time! I could almost live at Pena’s :-) Perhaps I convince him to open a deli? LOL.

Great tasting food and reasonable prices. You have to try their tortas! Definitely a 5 star place to eat. This is what I call a great place that started just from a lunch truck!!! Keep up the great work!

The staff is super nice the ladies always have a smile on their faces here which is always nice to be greeted like that. I love the tacos here but my favorite is the Pork torta’s! One of the best I’ve ever had. The décor of the joint can use a little TLC but I know most don’t mind. I would also highly recommend getting an order of their nachos!

Great Establishment, the owner Arturo is so polite and friendly makes you feel like your a part of the family. The food is delightful and always fresh especially the tortillas. The atmosphere is a plus as well not over crowded with décor but just enough to make you fit in. Pricing is reasonable also the restaurant is very clean. I will continue to show support to our local family owned restraunts Thanks Penas for always serving such great food!!!

Very solid Mexican food. The food is very fresh — have never had anything that tastes stale there. My kids love their quesadillas and I love their burritos and my wife loves their tacos. Also, taking the family out to dinner won’t break the bank — very reasonable prices. Why not five stars: 1) you have to pay for chips. Chips. You know, the things that come standard at almost every other Mexican restaurant? Now, they’re good chips(the kind you can tell are really deep fried tortillas) but still. We paid for a side of chips and it came in a little round thing with a tiny styrofoam cup(like the kind you put sides in). There weren’t enough chips for two adults to eat — we went through them in a matter of minutes. I could understand paying if you got a basket or something but nope. 2) no self-serve soda fountain. If you order a drink you get a can of soda and an aside, my can top was dirty. Overall really solid meal, great food, but could stand a few upgrades.

I’ve been meaning to try this place because of all the positive reviews and I’m glad I did! I had the beef torta which was juicy, the meat was tasty and all but the only thing I wasnt a fan of was the bread, it was falling apart and ripping from one end to the next… but I will go back to try the tacos and burritos next! Thanks

I love the service at Peña’s Tacos. They are always friendly and fast(especially when I have a small to-go order). Restaurant is always clean and sometimes they have live guitar music. My favorite thing so far on the menu is the Shrimp ceviche tostada. Good amount of shrimp in the ceviche. When getting it to-go, I like how they wrap the tostada shells separately so they stay crunchy. I’ve tried the ceviche tostada at the same time as the shrimp ceviche and I liked the shrimp way better! Even though they are similar, the shrimp’s flavor and texture make it way more delicious! Their carne asada street taco is ok. Carne asada burrito is good. Carne asada torta is good but I prefer the carne asada torta at Tortas Mexico. Kids love their bean and cheese burrito. My husband and his cousin both LOVE their lengua burrito. Great little Mexican restaurant in Sunland.

Nice, friendly staff running this tastefully done low budget operation that is wise enough to know that it is the quality & taste of its food that will make or break it rather than worrying exessively about its décor & ambiance. Of course, warm, well thought out service is critical to its long term success. Pena’s Tacos is a good Mom/Pop kind of place that provides good, downhome Mexican from Nayarit, but the menu seems to be from various parts of Mexico. That or the foods that it serves may be more famous as a food item in other parts of Mexico. However, emphasis on the seafood on the menu shows that Estado Libre y Soberano de Nayarit(Free & Sovereign State of Nayarit) is on the west coast of tropical Mexico. I just went for a trial nosh to Pena’s Tacos, and the long menu board on the wall next to the order counter showed that Tacos are not the only things made: Tostadas, Burritos, Quezadillas, Empanizadas(batter fried) de Camaron(shrimp) /pescado(fish), Cockteles, Sopes(fried Masa or corn dough) topped with frijoles and/or meats, Vampiros(flour tortilla that looks like a panini filled with gooey cheese & meat), Taquitos which are not listed on the menu, but can be ordered. 1) I ordered the Taquitos Deshebradas(stringy beef in a fried rolled corn tortilla), but unfortunately the beef was not noticeably marinated or herbed so the meat was rather tasteless. I would marinate the shredded beef in garlic, chiles, maybe a little lemon juice to accentuate the beef flavour. The fried tortilla was crispy with the accompanying lettuce, cilantro, salsa, but no crema mexicana that tends to be standard in most northern Mexican style restaurants. There were slices of cucumber & red radishes with a salsa roja of smokey chipotle chile, and a salsa verde. 3 to an order. 2) Also ordered the Taco de Camarones Empanizadas which was a hand made corn tortilla lightly grilled filled with battered fried shrimp, shredded cabbage, bits of tomato, cilantro, &2 thin slices of Aguacate or avocado to you Gringos. Since I did take out which is covered over with air tight saran wrap, the Taco de Camarones Empanizadas self-steamed itself by the time I got to eating it. However, this gave the taco time to meld more of its flavours into a unified whole so that the sweet sea minerality of the shrimp infused into all parts of the taco creating a satisfying more mature taste profile. It’s kind of like eating day old lasagna in the fridge which tastes better since the flavours have had more time to mix & mellow. I went to the neighboring liquor store in the same strip mall & decided to be a Hoochie by buying a 40 oz bottle of Mickey’s Malt Liquor with the flying wasp logo. It’s so ghetto that it doesn’t even say the alcohol content as stipulated by law at least in California, but it’s union made which indicates that it is made by American workers in the good old U.S. of A., and not from some cheap ass Asian country that is well known for its lack of quality product/food control. I want to go back to Pena’s to try out some more of their specialties such as the Torta de Carne Asada as well as more of their Mariscos(seafood). Until then, the initial impression is 3+ Unilocal stars.

Will definitely be back here! The burrito camarones is SOGOOD. It’s got lightly tempura-battered shrimp(I appreciate a place that uses clean oil) and crunchy thin-sliced slaw, as well as this truly lovely pickled cucumber and tomato ceviche. Homemade tortillas all the way. Our sope had adorable thumb-prints sculpting the sides, and the carnitas were melt-in-your-mouth great. The family who runs this place(and cooks!) are really friendly and sweet. They were in the middle of purchasing persimmons and avocados from a farmer when I went to pay for my meal — I watched the wife take bites of the persimmon, consider it, then converse with the farmer. Old school and awesome product quality assurance, there! Prices are more than reasonable for well crafted, thoughtful dishes well executed and satisfying! See you soon, Pena’s! High marks on the clean and modern restaurant, too.
