I just started working with Matt Resnik and am very happy with what’s happened so far. I’m writing this at the beginning of the process so I am tempering my enthusiam with a 4-​star review.
I got churned out of the HAMP machine after 6 years. In 2014, I’d handed the mess over to a lawyer who managed to keep me out of foreclosure, but not get the loan modified. He refunded ¹⁄₃ of his fee and skulked away in defeat. He said RCS was the worst firm he’d ever dealt with.
With a few days left I found Matt Resnik via
, and I am grateful not to have been laughed out of his office. His staff and I had to exchange data and documents very quickly on Friday and it all got done. There’s still a battle ahead but for once I have an intelligent advocate with an impressive staff.
Keep in mind that HAMP is sick joke. It should be called HAMPER. The 2% interest rate expires after 5 years, and then you get whatever the 30 yr fixed is at the time the mod was approved. Paying your arrears over time or as a balloon payment is built into it, too, unless an extreme miracle happens. Notices will be posted on your house and you’ll get multiple scary letters every day for weeks at a time. You will ruin your credit in the process, inevitably. HAMP expires at the end of 2015 and I don’t think it will be missed.
If someone reading this is new to the loan mod racket, get acquainted with NPV calculations, (
) and the guidelines loan servicers are supposed to adhere to (
). Look up who owns your loan at
. Find out if your state has judicial or non-​judicial foreclosure. The latter make it easier for homeowners to lose their houses than it is for renters to lose their apartments. Landlords have to win a lawsuit to evict; loan servicers just have to say to the clear blue sky that they have the right to foreclose, even if they don’t have anything to prove it.

BLINDLY and DESPERATELY my husband and I scrambled online to find an attorney to help us with a NOD and BK, etc. We had no idea who to trust. It was a shot in the dark, but we called his office and EVERYONE there was kind and honest and very helpful. I paid Matt up front which i felt foolish for doing after I left his office (im not saying he will make you do this), but lo and behold Matt and his staff went above and beyond what we agreed to him doing for us and didn’t charge us a penny extra. This law office list they deal with employment law, but when I called I was informed by someone who barely speaks English that they don’t

I was in a car accident last year. It was awful. Insurance was being difficult. The other driver was trying to blame me. Very stressful thing for me to go through.

This will be an on going review, since a Bankruptcy takes time to complete. I met with a female attorney name Cherity and she made my initial consultation painless. So I signed a retainer and started my Chapter 7. So far so good. She answers my questions right away. I am on payment plan and should be paying off my retainer within next 2 weeks. I am extremely happy with the firm and especially with Charity, my attorney so far. I also have SSDI/​SSI lump sum involved. My wife and I are grateful to Kevin Simon, Matt Resnick, Shannon, Tina and their attorneys for their tremendous effort and accomplishments in obtaining a best-​case-​scenario bankruptcy and successful mortgage modification.
Some background: Our finances were a disaster following income reductions as well as unforeseen expenses. Previous attempts at negotiating debt, interest rates and a modification using another attorney and non-​profits such as NACA were costly and unfruitful. My letters to the Treasury’s Comptroller of the Currency, Fed., bank’s «executive» office, politicians and even investors were also a waste of time, merely reinforcing my belief that we’re now closer to a plutocracy than ever before.
In our case, the bankruptcy was also somewhat complex due to a cross-​collateralized second mortgage among other things. While other attorneys attempted to sell us on a quick and dirty solution (BK and walk away), Simon and Resnik, provided a highly specialized solution (Chapter 13+7, i.e. «Ch. 20»), which allowed us to keep our only home with an affordable payment plan.
A note of special thanks must go to Shannon (BK Team) and Tina (Mods) who provided exceptional and caring support throughout what would ordinarily be a very stressful process. Both Tina and Shannon are very efficient, organized and experienced. For the modification process, Tina helped to de-​fuse a toxic first mortgage set to reset in the near future. Moreover, she accomplished in under three months what other organizations, previous attorneys and I spent three years dawdling over.
Do your due diligence, research your options, ask plenty of questions and invest in experienced and excellent advocacy. You get what you pay for.
