So bad. They can’t distinguish dumpling noodle and rice cake noodle. Noodle is not fully cooked. And the dumpling can’t even stick together… Last time coming here :(

Try to avoid if you want actual ramen. The noodles are pretty much the same as the top ramen you can get at ralphs. Seems like all they added was some vegetables, maybe an egg, and then send it out. It was tragic.

I’ve had nothing but pleasant experiences here. The older lady who owns the place is so nice and always smiling and laughing with customers. I always get the soy roll(with eel and tempura), but occasionally I’ll get the sushi and udon option if I’m starving or want leftovers. The udon is kind of bland, but I have heard great things about their chicken or seafood udon. Overall, it is an affordable, filling option for USC students. Close to my apartment.

Was looking for a different phở place but stumbled upon this instead. It was soooo good. The prices are amazingly cheap & you definitely get what you paid for! The sushi is super well made(same price as everywhere else) but everything else is bigger than you’d expect. I’ll be back super soon!

This is my first time commenting on Unilocal as I don’t usually give reviews unless I am really compelled to and I feel it will help others make an educated decision in dining here. To me, I would give this place a zero star if I could based on the overall experience and impression I got from the restaurant, but some of their food is about a sub-par 1.5−2 stars that’s why 2 stars is just about right for me. Let’s start with the service: — The owner gave us bad customer service, he was very stingy with his utensils and sauces. Super rude and not really that friendly — 20 minute wait time on non-peak hours for just a roll of sushi is ridiculous. Food: — Volcano and spicy lobster roll is about as good as you can get to trying this restaurant. The rest are probably a hit-or-miss kind of thing which you are better off going elsewhere. So try those of you have the chance, they are honestly pretty good. A little greasy, but once in a while it’s fine. I’m not sure about the fly situation from the other people who comment, but so far my tummy is happy and in tact. Environment: — Not for ambiance. Just get in and get out and you’re all set. Best case scenario, order to-go :) Anyway, proper rating: Food — 2 to 3 stars Service — 0 to negative stars Ambiance — 1 to 2 stars Short note for this restaurant: Beware of overly sensitive Asian owner, over-conservative=loss of customers. Try at your own risk of emotional attack lol. Have a good day :)

The worst place to eat around USC. They cant call themselves a korean restaurant. The owner is also very sensitive when it comes to their sauces and utensils… I ordered take out for about 6 ppl and with the amount of money i am paying them you would assume they would give me enough sauce to go around! Nope they said only one! Crazy… Food was not satisfying as well. Go elsewhere theres california gogi which is bomb.

Roll is fine. Ramen tastes like instant noodles. katsu has a strange taste. I like the salad most.

Used to like this place for a quick and cheap meal, but found flies stuck in my sushi rice during my last visit. Disgusting. Will not be returning.

It was just OK. The rolls are BIG but not so fresh, I guess it’s what you can expect for fast food sushi.

Not a bad option if you’re around the area. I ate here so often last year that I’d feel sick just from the smell, but the food is actually alright. They’ve updated their menu so that it’s not just udon and sushi rolls and katsu, but now they have ramen and kogi, etc. My favorite choices are the shrimp tempura udon and the curry bowl with chicken. You can add meat to any bowl, and sometimes I like to get a miso soup on the side for a dollar. The people who work here are always really nice, although I’ve gotten an upset stomach a couple of times eating here. Recently, everything’s been fine though, but I would probably stay away from the raw items here. Stick to food that’s been cooked!

This is probably the worst Asian restaurant I’ve ever eaten at. Ever. I ordered the black bean noodles and stir fried rice cakes. The rice cake came in a bowl with red soup. I asked the lady twice if this was the correct order. She said«yes it looks different from the menu photo». Wtf!!! Look at my photo. It’s supposed be «stir fried» My black bean noodles were more like udon noodles in brown water. Bland and disgusting. Again, look at the photo.

It’s a good sushi. Good choice if you wanna just have a easy quick lunch. The place can get crowded so you might need to get early for lunch. Price is ok. You could add the special menu and might get a good deal. For timing they are ok, not so much wait.

Simply horrible. I’ve waited for over 20 min and seen so many people come in and walk out in front of me. There is another soy down the street. Try there. Beware the shitty service and mediocre food

I really enjoy the food at Soy. The tempura veggies and shrimp are AMAZING! Very worth it. The chicken bento box is typically my go-to. It comes with white rice, chicken and teriyaki sauce, side salad, tempura veggies, and a California roll. Unfortunately there is not a brown rice option.

They have a very bad service. Today, I made a to-go order and waited inside. The guy gave my order to another one without calling the number. After I realize this fact, i have already waited for 15 mins. They asked me to wait for a couple of minutes. However, after waited there for 20 minutes, I checked again with them… They have not started to make my order, and cooker has nothing to do. WTF

Not really a big fan of this place but I wanted to add an extra star because the Korean lady(I believe she’s the owner) is so sweet and remembers her customers! The food here isn’t that great and authentic at all :(Definitely better options around USC but here are some choices I recommend: — Curry Chicken Bowl: My go-to dish here! Curry has just enough taste and they give a pretty big portion. You have to add extra for the chicken though. I like the potatoes in this dish. — Spicy Lobster Roll: Note that they DON’T use real lobster here. This ones okay and not too spicy but don’t get this if you can’t eat spicy obviously. Comes with salad and checking in on Unilocal gives you $ 2 off! — Yaki Udon Chicken: Also a pretty good dish with big portions. The udon is more saucy than soupy and there’s veggies in this dish too. — Gyoza: Mainly only like this dish because I can eat it with the sweet & sour sauce :)

I really wish I could’ve given 5 stars… I’m a big fan of food(lol who isn’t right?) so when it comes to it I’m a big critique. I take into account everything from smell, taste, to presentation. I ordered the Chicken Katsu plate which came with a Miso soup for around $ 7(decent price). It was very well portion sized and nicely presented, with no visible oil drippings or anything of that sort. The customer service was excellent and cleanliness satisfactory. I was only disappointed because the katsu didn’t really have any flavor to it as others i have tried before and the katsu sauce they offer didnt really help much, so I would not say this is my go-to katsu place. Other than that, great customer service and food in a timely manner.

Spicy ramen. It was my first time tasting ramen and was very much let down to find out that it tastes similar to Maggi back in India. Wouldn’t have spent 6 $ to eat something like that! The other two dishes which we ordered were pretty good and were more cost effective — chicken katsu and chicken bowl. Chicken bowl had huge portions of flavoured rice with veggies & chicken for $ 5.25 and this will definitely be on my order list if I happen to visit Soy kitchen again.
