NOTE: This review is entirely independent of the Superior Ranch Taqueria that fills the front half of the location. See my separate review for my musings on the delicious and cheap eats served therein. As a grocery store, I’m not so impressed with this market. It’s more like a convenience store than anything. There’s some basic dairy products like milk, eggs, and cheeses(queso fresco, cojita, and crema(not cheese, I know)). I did find a nice selection of tortillas, however. Then there’s the random supplies I found: cheap plates, silverware, dried goods, ice cream bars, beans, lentils, etc. The most shelf space I noticed was dedicated to produce, and this is where the market really falters. I was here on a Monday, and it looked like the fruit and veggies had been sitting there all weekend. The tomatillos and lettuce were brown and wilted. The peppers were shriveled and sad looking. I wasn’t so sure about the citrus either and I was a little nervous to test them, so I didn’t bother. As for beverages, they kind of strike out here too. They have a standard assortment of sodas, and sadly no Jaritos or Mexican Coke. At least Los Paisanos down the street carries those. Their beer selection is not much better — it’s cheap domestic and Mexican brands. But hey, at least now I know where I can get a Forty or a Tall Boy in walking distance from school.
