Seriously. No. Serious. Eat here. Portions are huge. Always so freakin friendly. I literally get full off one taco. Extra sauce and jalapeño. Get the combo and choose the meat to your liking. All of it is good. Really, all of it. Find a seat in the beer garden or near Golden Road. Lunch done right.

Good golly was I TORTA-ly stuffed! This Torta Cubana got me so full that I skipped a meal today after consuming this beastly thing. In some weird strange fashion, I blame this torta from depriving me of experiencing the other things on this menu. At first, I was going to be ambitious and order this torta and a taco. Let’s be honest, you can mess up a taco. Well I can because I’m a terrible cook but I can eat the heck out of one. Anyway, back to my point. I feel deprived because I had my sights on this torta and taco. But while waiting to be served I started to watch the other patrons get their food prepared. I started to see the MASSIVE amounts of MEAT they were laying out on the bread/tortilla/whatever they needed to make whatever they needed. While witnessing the meat be stacked, I began to be be intimidated, so I decided not to get the taco. Now when the gentleman started working on my torta, I was very excited(and hungry). And again, every pile of meat stacked on one another had me feeling like«omg! What am I getting myself into?!» Ok, enough story telling, the portions are huge and it was delicious. I had no regrets what’s so ever coming here and devouring that Torta Cubana. It was juicing, it was messy and I loved it. My only concern is the bread got soft real quick. Maybe a little toasty. Other than that, I’d love to come back and taste what else y’all have to offer and then I’ll give my 5th star out. In the mean time, keep kicking ass!!!

In the heart of Grand Central Market Tacos Tumbras a Tomas is one of the survivors of the recent purge of really useful, down-to-earth comestible retail stores such as my favorite, Del Rey«Spanish Foods», which had stocked the best Cotija cheese that I have ever tasted in Socal, due to the good & bad effects of the gentrification of Downtown Los Angeles. We came down to Grand Central since I had been invited by Supreme Unilocaler Isobel L. to the opening of «The City of Gold», a movie about the food historian & critic, J. Gold. The rendezvous point with J. Gold was at the GCM before going on to the old Million Dollar Theater just next door. So it was a logical move to go to Tacos Tumbras a Tomas to have a taco before the movie began. I ordered Tacos al Pastor for $ 3 which was not an exorbitant price since it had 2 extra tortillas de maiz/corn & enough red chile & achiote/annatto tinged braised, chopped pork meat so that it came out to $ 1 per taco which is reasonable considering we are entering the new, more upscale GCM. Thanks Tacos Tumbras a Tomas for not raising prices yet. Al Pastor is pork that classically is cooked on a vertical rotating spit w/a juicy pineapple on top since pineapple is a natural meat tenderizer. This style of cooking was brought in by Lebanese immigrants to Mexico using lamb/sheep since the Middle East does not typically use pork because it is considered not kosher or halal according to Jewish & Islamic dietary law. But, Mexico uses pork which to those Middle Eastern religions is considered«unclean». Interestingly the name al Pastor still refers to «in the style of the shepherd or sheep herder». Pigs obviously do not need to be herded since they live in a pen. I didn’t notice a vertical spit so I assume this al Pastor was possibly roasted in an oven & then simmered in a tomato & sweet, red chile & achiote based salsa. It is dressed w/chopped yellow onions, cilantro leaves, & a shiny, slightly viscous greenish tomatillo salsa glaze to add a bit of gastrique for a bit of acidity to enliven the small diced, moist pork. As much as the al Pastor here is bright red connoting a stronger flavor profile, the al Pastor here is more lightly flavoured in comparison to other al Pastors I have eaten. 1−2a) A thick, red chile sauce that wasn’t too piquant was included in a small plastic container to be applied to the tacos. Two small lime slices were healthful garnish to add more vitamin C & more fresh citrus gastique. My favorite tacos al Pastor may be Carnitas Michoacán on Lankershim Blvd. in North Hollywood, but Tacos Tumbras a Tomas placed well. 3+ Unilocal stars. PS Golden Road Brewery is right near by so it is possible to have a good herbal, hops refreshing bitter IPA or any other beer to pair w/the food from many of the GCM vendors.

If you are hungry. this is the place for you! First all. the tacos are massive! I ordered the carnitas which was tasty, not fatty or mushy. We ordered 4 tacos but ended up taking 2 of them home because of the size. All of the food is fresh and prepared in front of you. It is a perfect fit at Grand Central Market as it this place has been around for a long time. You can get a cold beer at Golden Road and enjoy some of the best Mexican food at Grand Central Market. Check out the pictures that others have posted. you will see how big the portions are! Cheers!

I love tacos! We came here for Egg Slut but saw this delicious taco shop around the corner and wanted to get some tacos. OMG! It was delicious! One taco can prob get you full because they stuff it with so much meat. I separated the tortillas and made it into 2 tacos. I’m glad I got this because I enjoyed it more than Egg Slut!

Got here early in the morning around 9am, and I got the asada burrito. It was really nothing special in my opinion, just tasted like a regular burrito. I think the tortilla could have been a little thicker. I also think there could have been a little more avocado in it. I’m trying to think of specific parts of what made it taste so standard, but I can’t. It was just average, and thus disappointing since I was looking forward to it. It looked awesome when they were making it, since you could see all the rice, meats, etc. sitting out right in front of you, like at Panda Express. All the meat was cooking on the grill in the back too, and smelled amazing. Maybe this is why I was so disappointed. I tried my boyfriend’s goat burrito, and hated it. For any of you who are curious to try the goat, you’ll probably like it if you like lamb. If you are someone who doesn’t like lamb(like me), the goat will be way to gamey for you. Ugh. I thought it was gross. My bf on the other hand, loved it. I on the other hand, tried to eat it as leftovers, but ended up tossing it out. I saw another customer get the torta, and that looked good. I’d come back for the torta.

I feel somewhat silly writing this review, since there are so many, and since all the other reviews will probably say the same thing as this does. But, I just cannot help myself because this taco was probably one of the top three tacos I have ever had in my entire life and I am almost 30. I ordered two tacos — one carnitas and one carne asada. I loved the flavor of both the meats inside the soft corn tortillas. I especially loved the amount of meat that you get to have. You get extra corn tortillas too. Seriously, they give you a ridiculous amount of meat and the food was so cheap IMO. There was a long line at this place around lunchtime. But, around 5PM on a Friday night, they were still open and there was no line. I totally recommend this place. I plan on at least getting one taco here every time I go to downtown LA. Yummy!!!

I never thought of getting Mexican food at Grand Central Market because there are so many amazing options and you can really get good Mexican food anywhere in LA. However, Eggslut always has a line, Knead & Co Pasta Bar+Market takes longer than you think, and I’ve tried Valerie, Sticky Rice and many others. So I finally decided to get some Mexican at GCM. At first, I was debating between Ana Maria’s and here but ended up here just because of the amount of reviews. To my surprise, there was a line to order BUT it moved quick as there are tons of people behind the counter. I ordered an all meat burrito(you can choose 2 meats). I got the goat and cabeza which were incredible. The cabeza was melt in your mouth tender and the goat was so soft it was amazing! I wish they had lengua that they but they didn’t. The all meat burrito was $ 8.50 which might seem like a lot but the burrito is HUGE and don’t forget that its all meat! And the meat is amazing!

Really good value. Really good assortment of meats. But perhaps I built up too much anticipation. It all tasted just fine. I mean, don’t get me wrong. The service was fast and fun and totally nailed it. The tortillas are delicious and I love that they give you extra so you can make your taco a twofer if you want to split it with someone. I was so looking forward to the birria but it was a letdown. I mean, it was fine. The carne and pollo were the high marks in my book. The horchata was real creamy and had the right canela. Also a winner in my book. All good but altogether not a big fireworks show of flavor for me.

The massive amounts of prepared meats they display in the front really gets your mouth salivating. I thoroughly enjoyed the Asada and Al Pastor. They load the tender meat, they load the sauce, the cilantro, and the onions. They give you extra corn tortillas. All for $ 3(+$ 0.50 if you use credit card). Value wise it’s excellent(if you find a way to park for free at least). There’s a place like this back at home that serves tacos similarly to this but they also include unlimited chips and salsa for the same price – though I admit I preferred the meat here. There’s not much else I can say, it’s good and at value price.

If you love King Taco like I do, then my review would be for you. Tried this spot out for lunch today finally. I’m always over at Sticky Rice but since I was craving tacos at 4am in the morning, I decided to fulfill that craving. I ordered 2 Al Pastor and 1 Asada. Now, keep in mind these tacos are HHUUGGEE! The size of these tacos are 2X the normal regular typical tacos. The price for the tacos are $ 3.50, a bit on the higher side, however, for the amount of protein and tortillas(they give you a few extra), it’s worth it. These are beast tacos, lol. Perfect for if you are shredding I suppose. Taste wise, it was ok. I got medium hot sauce with a splash of hot, onions, and cilantro. Overall, the tacos aren’t bad. However, it’s also not as yummy as El Flamin’ or King Taco. So, if I am at The Grand Central Market, this place wouldn’t be my pick, lol. I’ll stick to Sticky Rice next door. :P

We came here on Easter Sunday, after finding out that Eggslut was closed :(but we were happy this place was open. We got a burrito with carnitas for $ 7.50. That thing was huge! Not too messy either. The burrito was very filling and delicious! We will try to mix other meats in there next time. One negative thing about it was that although they accept credit card, they’ll upcharge the price. They were going to charge me $ 8.00 if I used credit card. I’m sure that 6.7% increase is way more than their credit card processing fees. I might as well warn everyone it’s cash only! Totally up to you but cash is better so you avoid the upcharge.

Tomas es especial! I tried their al pastor and chicharones tacos. For $ 3.5 per taco, you cannot get a better value than this place. I was stuffed after two tacos! Flavors are good and staff is friendly. Can’t go wrong with this place if you’re looking for value and good food.

++ Stop #1 in my jury duty food adventures ++ Grand Central Market is walking distance from the courthouse, so this was at the top of my list for cheap and quick eats during my lunch break. As expected, the line was intimidating(though not as bad as Eggslut was, I should add). However, it did move rather quickly and I was at the front within 10 minutes. I tried out the BUCHETACO($ 3.50). For you gringos, that’s pork stomach. The meat was piled high and I got two tortillas on the side. While this is most likely the best deal you will get in the area for a filling lunch, as far as tacos go I was not impressed. Yes, you are basically getting three tacos for that price, but the tortillas weren’t good, and the meat itself was just okay, with no distinctive flavor. Overall it was a average taco that seems exciting at first because it’s so big. Perhaps I tried the wrong meat, but their buche taco was not for me. It wouldn’t be a destination spot for me, but if you are in the area and need a quick cheap lunch, go for it! Food: 3, Service: 4, Environment: 3, Price: 4

Review 49⁄366 This was Stop #2 of our Self Guided LA Food Tour. Located more in the middle of Grand Central Market, Tacos Tumbras a Tomas is known for their street tacos. While their tacos are $ 3 a piece, trust me when I say that you definitely get your money’s worth. They pile on so much meat that they give you a couple of extra tortillas so you could make a few extra tacos out of it. My friends and I ordered 2 tacos to split– the al pastor and the cabeza(head). Since Stop #1 was Philz Coffee, this was definitely the perfect way to kick off the official eating portion of our tour. We added«everything», which were diced onions and cilantro, and topped it off w/some medium salsa(which was very mild). Both tacos were huge. I was hoping the Al Pastor had more of a kick and a bit less greasy. While I’ve had better al pastor tacos, this one wasn’t bad. I will admit– while I complain about the greasy, tearing off some tortilla and soaking up the flavored sauce/grease was pretty good… haha. The cabeza was not the best– in fact, it was so fatty, we had trouble cutting through some of the meat. I was more like flavorless meat actually– I had to keep squeezing lime to cut the grease and add some much needed acidity to the flavor. All together, this place was good, but of all the places we hit up yesterday, I’d probably rank it the lowest. I would say… they attract you on quantity over quality. But that’s just my opinion.

Located inside Grand Central Market. Cash only. Food is put together for you as you order. Know what you want before you go to order because are quick, The tacos are huge, like you can make 3 – 4 separate tacos per 1 taco order huge. They give you a side tortilla with each taco order to make another but you could make more. They do not skimp on the portions here. Carne Asada Taco — $ 3.50 — Decent marinade. Cooked nice. Not the best carne I have had but it was good. Carintas Taco — $ 3.50 — I really wanted Lengua but they did not have it so I settled on carintas. I usually do not enjoy carintas but this was actually really good. I liked that they mix the pork with some crispy bits also.

Went here to get brunch with the guys because it was down the street from our hotel. We originally wanted to go to Eggslut, but the guys decided they wanted something else. So we gave this place a shot. The workers here are nice and entertaining, I had the following: — 3 Tacos — Goat, Carnitas, and Al Pastor — all the meat was delicious, especially the goat meat, these tacos can feed more than one person, and I was not able to finish it all. it was somewhat heavy since it was still early for me There is so much places to eat in here, I don’t know if its worth coming back to.

Great tacos inside Grand Central Market. Huge portions. One order of tacos is actually 2 – 3. They know it, so they give you an extra tortilla. The al pastor was great. Love the flavor. The chicharron. Not my thing. Not the chicharrons I know. Maybe it’s a Mexican thing, but braising pork skin in liquid just isn’t appetizing. It’s like sucking on pure pig fat. Couldn’t finish my taco. I wish I had gotten something else.

Came across this place while my girlfriend was waiting in line to inch closer and closer to make our order at Eggslut. We we’re pretty hungry and had at least an hour to kill before actually getting to the Eggslut register line. After checking out the different vendors in the plaza, she decided she wanted to try out the intestine tacos from Tacos Trumbras. Not only is this place cheap, but the amount of food they give you for just ONE taco is ridiculous! We ordered an intestine taco and medium horchata for just $ 5. Intestine Taco: The taco itself was $ 3.50 but my goodness they give you TONS of meat and an excessive amount of tortillas! In all honesty, I felt like one taco per person would have satisfied us for a meal. The Intestine was so soft and flavorful by itself and even more delicious when combined with their tortilla. I wish we had more taco shops like this in the OC area! Horchata: I’m not usually a fan of horchatas seeing that most of the time I feel like there’s too much cinnamon action going on. I didn’t really get that overwhelming sensation though from their horchata. If anything, the cinnamon taste was very mild and light and I thought gave the drink a refreshing balance. Definitely worth the $ 1.50 for a standard 16oz size cup.
