Went on a Wednesday night to see an up-and-coming artist I’m a fan of. Tickets were fairly cheap but did sell out, glad I got mine in advance. No hassle getting inside. The venue is on the smaller side and most of the space is set up for the stage/audience, but if the concert is packed it’s going to bleed into the bar area/bathroom hallways. Sound system was decent but definitely favors volume over clarity. Got there early enough to catch the two openers, which the venue kept on schedule so that the headliner wasn’t going on super late. Had a decent selection of beers on tap at standard prices, paid $ 8 for an IPA but no minimum to charge your card, so that’s always nice. Overall: if a smaller act you recognize is playing here, it’s probably worth checking out how much tickets are.

Really fun spot! Definitely overcrowded but the funk music was worth being a little uncomfortable. Really cool LA scene and the vibe is awesome. Everyone just dances their asses off to some funky awesome old school music. I’ll definitely be back!

Los Angeles is known for many things. Its vibrant nightlife, its amazing restaurants and its quaint amount of music venues. The Echo, located right in the heart of gentrified Echo Park, is one of the small, intimate venues where one can go and enjoy a show. I loved the great experience and good time I had here and will definitely be looking out for great and upcoming shows here. Good luck with the parking situation. Hey, if you live, or have been familiarized with Echo Park, you’ll know what I am talking about! I first visited The Echo back in March to catch the A-WA show. A-WA are a sisterly trio who hail from Yemen. Their music consists of Yemenite folk pop/rock. They are amazing and I highly recommend seeing them. Anyways, the venue is small inside. They do have a fully stocked bar and a smoking patio. The night began with a performance by Joshua Silverstein, in which afterwards, he introduced A-WA to the crowd. Yes, it did get heated inside fairly quickly. I do believe their capacity is no more than 500. That’s still a lot! The sounds, the vibe, the ambience… all made for such a great experience. And yes, Im coming back!

Cash only at the door which was not posted. The guy selling the tickets was so rude, I held off buying tickets to support the venue, but next time will buy elsewhere than support the pay for the condescending jerks who work here. It’s a shame because it’s a nice venue.

A friend from work told me about this place because a tribute band for Felt was performing as he knew how much I loved their music. It’s a small venue, but kinda cozy. I became comfortable immediately, but once it gets packed its hard to move around. The sound system is great. I have came here twice and will be returning for upcoming future shows. Very chill and laid back. As being in the neighborhood that I grew up as a kid, I am happy to see that they have made the area come back to life. Come early if u wanna find decent parking as it gets packed pretty quick.

Someone stole my wallet, money, and credit cards from my purse when I was at The Echo. I called and emailed The Echo’s manager and lost and found department to try to get help and still have not received any responses from anyone. Not only that, but their phone number for their lost and found is ONLY a recording without the ability to actually speak to anybody. What kind of business does not allow any sort of communication with their customers? As a fellow business owner, I find that as cardinal sin #1. I used to actually like The Echo until this happened, and now this place deserves a HUGETHUMBSDOWN.

Good venue, the bearded bar tender will berate you if you order water. I had to order water for my friend from another bar tender a long with my drink.

The Echo is the first place I ever visited in Echo Park, when I came to see Rilo Kiley in college. I remember my mother, who lived in Los Feliz as a teenager, was very freaked out when I told her I’d be going to Echo Park at night. I understand that the neighborhood has gentrified greatly in the last ten years, but I can say with complete assurance that the Rilo Kiley concert was not dangerous. My second visit to The Echo was just last week, to see Built to Spill. I stopped following new music around the time of that Rilo Kiley concert, so I really don’t get out to concerts very often.(My last one before this was also a Built to Spill show, at the Troubador in 2013. What do you know? Built to Spill was my favorite contemporary band in college.) This is why my friends and I showed up at 8:45, fifteen minutes after doors opened. The venue was almost empty, with slow ambient music and dim lighting – it felt kind of like a high school dance, but for ghosts only. The opening acts went on at 9 and 10, and Built to Spill didn’t take the stage until 11.(To be fair, I would’ve known this if I’d checked The Echo’s Twitter.) Luckily, I enjoyed the space, and was able to get some decent beers to pass the time. I got a Golden Road Get Up Offa That Brown and some kind of Stone IPA, both $ 8 – not cheap, but full pours. There was some seating along the back of the venue. We could’ve taken it but decided to stand instead so we could claim good spots when the place started filling up. The show was sold out, and the venue was packed by about 10:30 or so. We weren’t industrious enough to claim front and center, but fortunately, The Echo is tiny, so there wasn’t really a bad spot in the house. Unfortunately, we got cut by the worst couple in the world. They started at our side, where the woman was dancing aggressively and jostling me like mad. Then they just hopped right in front of us and kept raging, claiming a huge chunk of the floor as their personal playground. The dude(who was at least fifty) had a fucking backpack that he kept ramming into my stomach. It was all pretty infuriating – like when you just know some asshole is trying to cut you off, and then they do, and you have to sit behind them in stop-and-go traffic for an hour. Even so, I had a great time at this concert. Built to Spill was wonderful, and it was a real treat to see them in such an intimate venue for $ 25 a ticket. I don’t know what other acts would draw me out for a concert on a Friday night, but I’m sure I’d love to see them at The Echo. Next time I’ll just make sure to check set times and bring mace to protect myself from concert assholes.

Went here on a Monday night for the Adult Books residency. FREE show with 3 other bands(Drinking Flowers was pretty dope). The beer selection is mediocre and expensive. 19 oz Dales Pale Ale can is kind of where it’s at. It’s a pretty intimate venue which is my favorite way to experience a show. There’s a Queen night coming in April and I truly appreciate that is going to be an event in my future life. All in all, bare bones good stuff.

I went last night to see Froth, and got there early so I checked out the other bands. For the most part, solid music, thumping bass, would’ve liked more volume on the singers, but overall great sound. It is a small venue and even though it was pretty packed, the outer perimeter of the club was lined with benches, so throughout the night I grabbed a seat here and there to rest my feet. Six to eight dollars for beer, you can order from the bar for pizza next door, but I ate before coming in. Cool, relaxed, and overall friendly venue to catch local talent. My kind of place, and I will return.

This review is super duper late. I came to see Bilal perform here on 06/24/2015. The venue is very intimate just like I like it but I didn’t appreciate the long line just to get the people who drove by attention. Granted artist did open up for him but it wasn’t that packed to where you couldn’t let people in. I arrived there at 9pm I didn’t get in till 11pm. Nonetheless I had a great time. It was a Red Bull event and the ticket was less than $ 10 so I can’t really complain.

The acoustics in this venue are top notch. The sound that comes off the stage when a band plays live is unreal! I saw Seahaven play here several weeks ago and it was very dope :) Drinks are affordable and the venue is conveniently located off Sunset Blvd(lots of other bars to walk around to)

It’s a pretty cozy venue. Came here last night to see my fav duo, Aquilo! Great lighting and sound, though not too many places to sit if you don’t mind standing. Pretty decent selection of beer that’s a bit pricy, so remember to pregame before you get here! The parking situation is not too bad– dollar lots behind the venue and free street parking around the park! The area is not the best place to get crunked during the weekend(go to west Hollywood for that), but there are a good amount of bars around!

I came here to see Oh Wonder on 10÷6÷2015 for under $ 20. Pretty nice small venue, but my favorite is still the Troubadour. However, it is way better than the Observatory in Santa Ana. Both the opener, XYLO, and Oh Wonder rocked. Sound and lighting was pretty good for the most part. However, I thought at times the microphones could have been louder for XYLO since I could barely hear her at times even though I was at the front. Set times are posted on the door and since the show was sold out the line to get in went around the block to get in. There are some couches to sit and you can stand pretty much anywhere and get a nice view of the stage unless you’re a hobbit. The restrooms aren’t that big so I would go before I come if you want to avoid waiting in line. They had the merch booth set up to the right of the stage by the restrooms. We found parking on the street so yay for free parking. The area is a little sketchy, but if you’re with friends you should be ok. Lots of food and bars in the area to eat and drink at before or after the show. If an artist you are a fan of is performing here then definitely buy a ticket because this is a nice venue for lots of new talent.

Industrial sized fans, moderately priced alcohol and Funky Sole on Saturdays… Thank you! Funky Sole Saturday’s: A place/event where you can really let loose with reckless abandon. Dance as crazy as your little kitty-kat pitty-paw meow meow heart desires; this is a creative fortress of solitude. No club rats here! Beware of B-boys, though. They tend to turn every dance circle into a competition. So if you want more wholesome fun, head to the smoking patio. Sure, there is cigarette smoke all around you. A little weed here n there. But trust me on this one; this is where the fun people are. The vibe is an old blues bar boogie shack on a decline dancefloor with a few fresh air breezes. Kristofer’s sip of the evening: Free water tower at the end of the bar near the men’s room. Seats lining the walls and industrial fans, galore! Boogie on, friends. Boogie on.

Went there for Echo Park rising 2015. Not a bad place. big, and open inside, and has 2 bars for ease. I would say this is a concert house above all.

Very chill and intimate music venue(it’s the smaller, sister venue of the The Echoplex). View of the stage feels slightly constricted by the layout, but any spot is close enough because it’s so small. Sound is good, and bar service is quick and friendly. Tickets are inexpensive and hip hop shows never get rowdy. There’s plenty of street parking along Sunset Blvd. Plus, metered lots south of Sunset. Tons of restaurants and bars along the block(Masa, Señor Fish, El Prado, Xoia, etc). Cool for before/after the show. Also, The Echo is part of Jukely. Look into a Jukely membership(free admission to tons of shows for a nominal monthly fee) if you love live music.

I never thought I could see great, small label artists for under twenty bucks. At the Echo, not to be confused with The Echoplex(same owner) down the road. Tl;dr: –There are no ins and outs, so go in a bit later than when the doors open. –Set times are on Twitter or near the entrance(ask bouncer) –Great place to see artists before they become popular –Great place for audiophiles who don’t mind a dive –Small enough for you to guarantee you’ll have a great time with the artist –Eat before you come in –Come in later than what it says on your ticket –Many shows are 18 and over, but alcohol is served to those with a wristband –Parking is a block behind the venue — come after 8 and it’s free –Kick a hipster here and become my hero The venue: Divey and legendary as ever, you’ll find Two Boots Pizza at the bar. Drinks are cheap, soda is $ 3, and water is on the house. The smoking patio is in the back, where carcinogenic air seems to go into the asbestos walls. It’s perfect for what you pay for, and that’s because you’re here for one thing only: the music. The best spot is right in the middle of that dance floor, unless you’re old. Then scoot to the back booths. The shows and artists: As of late you can see artists like Melodies Echo Chamber, TV on the Radio, Com Truise, Tycho, The Orwells, Beacon, Lord Raja, Jessica Lea Mayfield, Glitch Mob, Lido, and the list goes on. Legends like Beck, Airborne Toxic Event, Rancid, The Pixies, and The Decemberists have all been here. You can see artists here before they become legends. The deal is that you come here for the music, and only the music. If there’s a day where you don’t enjoy the music, you may not belong here. It won’t be at a huge loss to your wallet or the place. If you love experimental and fresh beats, you should get your ass down here. It’s one of the few places in LA where you can experience great musicians who are on great independent labels like Ghostly, Fat Possum, Sub Pop, Matador, Carpark and the list goes on. Most people also enjoy Funky Sole nights at the Echoplex, and it’s damn fun with the right people. The music at The Echo is all about satisfying that audio sensory urge you will never forget. Also, screw Coachella. I went there before it turned to *expletive.*

I have seen some great shows at the Echo, this is the smaller location that is upstairs. Its the little brother of the Echoplex. I actually prefer this little intimate spot over the bigger area downstairs. Pretty easy to navigate to grab a drink and always easy to find a spot. Multiple acts come through here and they get some great people coming through. I have seen Jedi Mind Tricks, Blockhead and Ceschi and Sole to name a few. I love how you can also hang on the side of the stage with a view of the artist. At the Bliockhead show I was sitting on the side of the stage. How cool is that? Not many places are gonna let you do that. If you have an artist that is coming here and you have never been I recommend checking this venue out. Tickets are usually reasonably priced and the drinks are not to bad on price. Oh and if you are hungry before the show fill up at Masa which is close by. Great place to grab some grub before the show. CHEERS!

The Echo. Not to be confused with The Exhoplex(which is downstairs). Actually, I’ve been told that The Exhoplex is a completely separate venue entirely. Even though… 1. they share the same name 2. when you go to there is news and updates for both venues. 3. plus! like I said you can enter either one by going up or down a flight of stairs. But anyway… Getting back to The Echo… It’s the more intimate venue of the two. The interior although rather small is efficiently and very strategically set up. Ok, walk with me… Lining the perimeter walls in the space is dope, very comfortable black leather couch. No bull, it literally lines 75% of the spot — the other 25% occupied by your friendly bartender. What else… oh yeah! There’s a Dancefloor to the right of the stage(from the audience perspective) about 9×12 ft Dancefloor space and when your boi is in the building best believe it gets mad usage!!! And like I said to the left of the stage(from audience perspective) is the bar, WITHCOMPLIMENTARY pour-it-yourself-water. Seriously, don’t ask the bartenders for water here, they’ll look at you like you have mushrooms creeping out of your ears. I love live music. I live LIVE music. You feel me? So when the show starts… I’m not A. standing up against a wall. B. hugging a drink at the bar. C. on my cell phone checking social media. I’m D. in the middle of the liveness gettin’ unbelievably crunk and drowning out in the live music ambiance. Sh-wiiiiiiiiing! If you’re feeling a bit claustrophobic and in need of some air… You’re in luck! There is an outside patio area for smokers(cigarettes, I get lit on another kind of smoke and they allow that inside ^_^). At times, you might also find a working bartender outside to wet your whistle if need be. Like I said I love live music. But intimate sets(for me) grasp me a little closer, allow me in a lil deeper with the artist and here at The Echo the venue enhances that experience I yearn for so much so… Party on Garth! Party on Wayne!
