I like what they have done to this space. I stopped by yesterday for an art show that I found on Flavorpill. They had several shipping containers that were converted into art spaces; DJ room, and chilling room. They had three artist paint murals on the back side of an old gas station. Add some neon signs. There were kids playing with bean bags and adults assisting in yarn bombing. In the park next to the filling station there’s a large decaying«Californian» sign that’s so pretty to look at. Other things available: pop-up shops, pizza truck, beer garden, projector playing a basketball game, and outdoor sitting areas. One of the guys working there handed my boyfriend and I a flyer for an outdoor movie series they are going to do during the summer. The first movie will be PeeWee’s Big Adventure.

I’m so excited I came across this place! They were having a beergarden this past Saturday while selling xmas trees. They were also showing christmas movies, had a holiday photobooth, and small shops selling goodies. Oh, and how could I forget: SNOW! They made a little patch of real snow for us to hang out on. I brought my dog, and there were others with their dogs, too. Fun day!

Wow! Stopped off on Saturday, Dec 1st, when I saw Xmas trees being sold. It was a Delancy’s tree farm and I’ve bought from them before. The selection was pretty good. But the real surprise was a beer garden that was part of the Service Station. It was low key but totally chill. Local beers and wine, hot apple cidar and little snacks. Great picnic tables and benches and they even played some Xmas background music. It’s called BeerGardenLA, and you just can’t beat the drink prices too! Check it out. They will be back at the Service Station the weekend of Dec 14 – 16.

SO… we’ve been at our place in Los Feliz for almost 2 years now. When we moved in, we had this fantastic view of Griffith Park. The trick was to make sure you were looking OUT and UP… and never DOWN. If you looked DOWN you saw this gross, dirty mechanics garage slash junkyard. Aside from being an eye-sore, this place was open 24 hours… not really open to the PUBLIC more like open to a select core of skuzzy and shady people coming and going all the time. They always had some sort of welding or drilling going on. Most often at like… 4AM. They also had 2 big black German Shepherds that were supposed to be guard dogs I thought that they seemed really friendly. Especially since we used to sit out on our patio and throw dinner scraps down to them. They loved us(They loved chicken sausage and turkey burger too) ANYWAY… all that has since become a memory. Out with the old, in with the new: I now call all that«The MESS that WAS3160 Riverside Drive. Someone recently bought the place, cleaned it up and they’re turning it into some sort of concept/creative/event space. Right now the property is serving as a platform to showcase a new line of «hipster» camper/trailer thing-a-ma-jings… «Hitch Your Dreams to a Happier Camper Trailer» AND… apparently that’s not it. While I was out on a walk with Whitney & Mitchell(my pups), I ended up chatting with a girl who was on the property. She seemed like she may be one of the founders/owners/creators. She told me that they’re throwing a party on September 9th with Food trucks, a beer garden and a screening of THEGOONIES. I think I’m starting to like our new neighbors. SO much better than a grungy olé garage gang. Wait, did she say BEERGARDEN? Really? I think I may actually go downstairs and participate. I’ll post some pics of the new look on the 9th. But for now, check out The NEW Riverside Service Station:
