Update: the watch battery(that he charged $ 5 more than he said it would cost) died after 2 months. This guy is dishonest and a total scam. I’ve had better service at the Sears watch repair.

Turns out the stem might have been his fault after all. Because he left out a retaining screw the movement was free to rotate in the case. All that held it in place was the stem, but the stem is not designed to do this so it was probably laterally stressed until it broke. For $ 800 Moon did NOT polish the case, replace any gaskets or the case tube or pressure test the watch. For $ 495ABC Watchwerks(downtown) does all the above and they don’t leave out important parts(and then lie about it!). My bad for going to him; don’t make the same mistake…

$ 40 to replace two Fossil watch batteries and remove 3 links(1 from one watch, 2 from the other) — seems like a joke to me. Worse was first being quoted $ 20 and then the price somehow doubled, the result of a «misunderstanding,» with no prices posted anywhere. Save your time and money. Go to ($ 5 battery replacement) or .

Quality, precision and efficiency for a VERY reasonable price. Twice now I’ve gone in and been helped without feeling like I was being judged or pushed to purchase anything more then I wanted. Helping this man stay in business is an honor.

The previous reviewers have it right. The shop owner is totally old-school and does great work for very little money. If you have jewelry and watches that need to be repaired you need to come and get this guy to fix them so that he stays in business!

i’m a fan of this dude! i like his style and his gruffness. he reminds of the soup guy on «Seinfeld.» he is very competent and knows what he’s talking about. his shop is very unassuming he does everything in-house. he’s nice, but can get a little impatient if you ask too many questions. i think it’s because he might feel insulted, as if the customer is questioning his ability. i walked in with my old man’s old Omega — the watch wasn’t working, had a lot of discoloration, and had been exposed to water. within seconds of looking at the watch he told me matter-of-factly that it was 1960 model, 14K gold and it’s approximate value on the antique watch market. i was so happy that he salvaged all the parts and didn’t need to spend any $ on ordering new replacement parts. his main goal was to save me $ and didn’t upsale me on any BS. he took time to draw a painstaking diagram of the watch’s wheel and showed me how over time the notches that connect between 2 wheels become worn down and skip occasionally as the watch gets older. and for that matter, he said, i should go easy on the daily winding(i had been trying to wind it WAY too much). he did everything in-house by himself and had a pretty long list of return clientele with really expensive Rolies sitting around that come back to him for annual cleanings. i asked why he had so many rolex’s being an authorized seiko dealer and he told me they were return clients(due to his rock-bottom prices methinks). i went to a jewler’s in marina del rey(next to The Counter) for my last rolex repair and they kind of botched it for $ 275. i should’ve come here instead. he gave me an estimate of what an Omega certified repair would cost(he was right in the ball park) and then beat their price by half and had the watch working by the next day. oh and all the discoloration from storage and dampness? gone. polished away. i will come again! to the negative reviewers: yeah maybe he doesn’t speak perfect english, and when someone says to you brokenly«hey you pay cash! half now! i fix! you pay other half when pick up! understanduh?!» it can be a little jolting… but keep in mind when i spoke to him in Korean he sounded more like«oh hey there, i’ll tell you what, why don’t you pay for half the repair now and when you come back tomorrow i’ll have her all ready for you so you can inspect my work and then pay the remaining balance, sound good?» see the difference??? it happens everywhere in korea town just about everyday. an american comes in and gets all utterly offended because of a «perceived» attitude or whatever. relax… the guys in his late 60’s, came from a land with different customs and expressions, BUT. if you can see past that you’ll recognize he does good, quality reliable work.

I stopped by here to pick up a pregnant friend’s watch. She enlisted me since I collect and own watches, from Cartier, to Accutron, to Casio. I’ve dealt with a few repairs to my timepieces, and I had an Ecodrive that needed a new rechargeable battery. The old Asian watchmaker here(owner?) seemed like a normal old-school shop owner — I like the genuineness of the gruff immigrant owners — they’re the basis of many a Scorsese film, no? Not to say this Asian grandpa is an Irish gangster, but he seems like a tough guy. Anyway, I get tired of all the fake-smiling commission sharks at the mall and chain stores — please don’t act like you’re doing me a favor by selling me something. Most importantly, just do a good job. Watchmakers should be Swiss or Japanese, that just adds to the romance of getting your watch fixed by someone that has some lineage in the trade. He charged me $ 8 bucks for her watch and told me it had been two years since the last change. He also quoted me $ 50 for the Ecodrive — $ 15 – 20 less than the competition I found on Unilocal!Left it there and picked it up three days later. Anyways, I use Unilocal a lot, but the other reviewers of this shop are possibly racially biased(talking to you Mr. Arkansas — welcome to the socal melting pot!), or just suspect. I never trust reviewers with no friends or other reviews. I’d recommend this place if you can deal with an old-school shop owner for a good deal. Or you can go to the mall and pay $ 20 for a battery change. I like a value, so I’ll be coming back to Toyo.
