Shhhhhhh. Its one of Westchesters best kept secrets. Its a road that can get you from one end to another to avoid lots of traffic lights(and traffic) in the neighborhood. Its also a great stretch of road to get your jog or cycling in. As an added bonus. if you do decide to cycle on… t its a cool spot to stop and see airplanes land on the north end of LAX.

this is the only reason i kept going to my old gym in MDR after moving to El Segundo. quick and painless, smooth and simple. BAM! there goes the beach! BAM! there goes the airport! BAM! there goes lincoln! when the rush hour hits Culver Blvd and the kids get out of school on Manchester, Westchester Parkway is truly the saving grace. wide open spaces and people actually share this road. love it!

Uh… four stars because, as the description read, «Yay! I’m a fan.» Huh??? We’re gonna start reviewing streets??? Oh, well you know, that one stretch of Wilshire by La Brea really blows… and furthermore… the stretch of sidewalk by Beverly Center at…(list goes on and on and on and on and on…). Love the concrete, trees aren’t bad… traffic decent, stoplights decent… Yeah…next we’ll review mailboxes…

People who know me know that I’m a borderline claustrophobe and that I like my space when working out. Ordinarily the beach would be a great place to put my headphones on and run unobstructed without hoards of people. However, during peak times the beach tends too get a little bit too congested for my liking. I have found Westchester Parkway to be a very nice alternative for running or riding a bike. If you are running, you can go on the side walk on either side of the street with out having to deal with agitated bikers. If biking, there are designated bike lanes going both ways. There are very few stop lights that hinder your run, and it is a pretty good distance(I actually took my car down a certain portion of the street to measure out 5 miles round trip using my odometer). Although this is not the beach, the scenery is nice. You can see the airplanes taking off from LAX on one side and on the other side there are trees, apartments, and a golf course. Even with the planes taking off it is amazingly peaceful, and I don’t even notice the sound of the planes with my headphones on. There are parts of the Parkway where I have encountered a lot of leaves and berries on the ground, but that is a compromise that I’m willing to accept because all of the nice trees that they have lining the street. Overall, it is really a nice looking and well maintained street. Westchester Parkway is one of my favorite peaceful places to run. It is a great change-up from the beach when it gets too crowded. If you are looking for an open street to run, Westchester Parkway is a great choice.

I didn’t know you could write a review on a street?!? Anyway. when I used to live in Playa del Rey and would go running. I’d run this route too. The street is straight and flat… no cracks in the sidewalk. And y es, there are also bikers(there’s a bike path) and runners/walkers on this street. Also. the cool thing about this place is that it borders the airport. It’s a good place to run if you’re close. but not something you’d drive 30 minutes for. If I were to do any driving to run. I’d drive to the wood chip trail in Manhattan Beach. near the Fry’s Electronics.

*** There’s a runner/biker autobahn that stretches from … *** Dockweiler Beach to LAX and rarely do many use it, yay! ;) from the beach to Sepulveda is about 3mi, so 6mi round trip. Westchester Golf Course borders the north side of the Pkwy. LAX borders the south side. There’s grassy areas along both. I make this lil trek w/my dog whenever the beach is crowded. since it has been hot, hot, hot lately … we’ve trek’d it all wknd. There are sidewalks and bike paths on both sides of the Pkwy, but the speed limit here is 50mph, so be wary of bringing kids. *** If you like to run or bike unobstructed, you’ll like the Pkwy. ***
