El Grullense

It’s clean and they are quick on giving you your food. Which is great especially when your just making a quick stop for food while driving by town .
I had a steak quesadilla which looked super good, but a few bites into it and I was done. Meat was good toppings were all fresh. Very filling.
My husband had there birria. The meat he said tasted old as in it was not cooked from that day or previous day, but rather a few days old. Previous time it was good but to salty. And this time he had hoped b it would be great. He won’t be getting that anymore.

Pretty nice. Clean, funk smell but not scary. Jalisco pride is shown all around. I love that they’re open until 11:30 pm!

Always my go to place for authentic food. After work I go straight over and order anything Tripa. Extra crispy tripa tacos and a beer always hit the spot. The burritos and sopes are a good choice also. This is the best mexican place in town.

I’m a tough critic for Mexican (even though I’m white) but this place is legit. The chili verde burrito is rocking my world right now. Perfect place to stop for grub as I drive through. I also like the seating area off the side of the building. This definitely deserves 5 stars. Not ashamed to say i devoured it :)

I travel through Los Banos frequently and am in need of a decent quick food place that serves food of consistent quality. Consistency is important to me. I can take medium to good quality as long as it is consistent. I do not want to go into a place and wonder what I will be getting this visit… good? bad? or nasty? And as a bonus I prefer a place that is not controlled by a corporate master.
The first few times I went in I thought I had found a gem. Great, I’ll be back. The next few times, with my recommendation on the line, and family in tow the food was mediocre at best, and the staff was between indifferent and surly.
The last time I was in (and I mean «last time») I ordered six tacos to go for three people, I told the counter girl two tacos per plate because they were for 3 separate people in the car. She seemed to understand. My number was 36 but was not served until after 42. I doubt the fact that my obvious heritage is not related to Mexico and those served be prior to we most likely do have Mexican heritage in their upbringing played any part in being passed over by the cook. The food came mixed on two plates and the tacos were missing several ingredients.
To the owners, message received, my money is not green enough for your establishment. You get two stars because the my first few visits, the food was good. I should be one star, but I’m feeling generous.

I had chile verde tacos, rice & beans & Jamaica. Everything was fresh and tasty. Highly recommended!

There food is great on a good day somtimes the tortillas are cold and hard on tacos. salsa is always on point and customer service is just like ther food they have ther days. My girlfriend got a carnitas burrito and twice ther was big chunks of uncut meat.

Foods was awful, tortillas were covered in mold, I will never eat there again. Place needs a visit from the health inspector.

No good Ceviche was terrible dry no spices just shrimp cilantro and a dry hard shell corn tortilla where not coming here no more im glad Los banos has a few Mexican restaurants o and it was expensive for so little food Ceviche and herchates two tacos like 24 dollars I think over 20 don’t remember exactly.

Got the carne asada super burrito with avocado instead of sour crème because of my lactose. Halfway through, after giving up on finding any avocado in the burrito, I crunch down hard on a rock the size of a pinto bean. Brought it back and was given the same burrito except without avocado. Needless to say I will not be going back and will be telling everyone I know not to touch this place.

I’ve only had their sopes and others I’ve been here with have had different meals, but mainly their burritos. The chicken is always full of flavor and extremely tender. Even reheated the next day, it’s still tender and good.
The only complaint I have is the paper plates. They always have foil wrapped song my plate of sopas and it still leaks out. They should use flat styrofoam for to go orders. Definitely recommend to try this place

Coming from Napa I was extremely skeptical about trying to find food for our wedding in Los Banos. This was the first place we tried. It was excellent. We tried 5 different meats, tacos and burritos. I’m a big, big fan. We got our food to go, but the restaurant was very clean.

This is another fav place besides El Rodeo. Their food is yummy! They give you a lot of food as well. Lots of food choices. Can’t go wrong going here. I think they stay open late too.

Well i gotta say that the last time i was here with my girl was months ago and for the last time too, and for good reason.
First the customer service was not the usual (friendly). The food we ordered which was 2 carne asada burritos supreme (they call THAT supreme) lol well they had no flavor whatsoever, not even the lil bit of salsa could add flavor to it nor the salt that we had to put in em, i just think or actually can say that that’s what happened is that the meat wasn’t marinated like they always do and it was also like everyone there had waken up on the wrong side of the bed hahahaha not funny! I was telling my girl that this place was one of the best asada burritos in town and what happened?! I was made look like a freakin fool, like WTF are you serious! These burritos were the worst ever and my girl is right, it was like eating a fart sandwich with a side of shit on it, well maybe the fart/​shit sandwich would’ve been better, it would’ve had some flavor on it.
Well not again will i go to any of these «el grullense» places again.
If you’re looking for some real «ASADA BURRITO SUPREME» head on over to «CUTIJA» you will not regret it, its on the corner of pacheco and center, its a tiny place with only outside seating, and the grilled jalapeños or serranos are the shiznit but you will have to order them just like that «grilled» or «asados».

I’ve stopped here a couple of times whilst driving through the sleepily village of Los Banos… solid taqueria style burritos and tacos. I like their horchata too!

Favorite place in town!

Before I let loose on this crap fest I shall refer U to the «real deal» as far as authentic grubbin Mexican food goes here in the toilet bowl of the USA which is Cutija a lil hole in the wall but well worth your time.
SOooooo I moved here less than 2 months ago and immediately found finding delicious food that is readily available to be quite the «Raiders of the Lost Arc» journey from hell.
The man swore this place was the shit so in we went. First of all I’m a wheta and he Mexican so I figured he must know what he’s talking about but ummmmmmm… NO NO NO! The nighmare began at the counter where we were ‘greeted’ if you can call it that by a rude woman who lavished him with decent customer service while givin me the ‘stink eye’ the entire time ignoring my food requests and solely communicating with him… But whatever as long as the foods good I can swallow the shit sandwhich at the counter.
We ordered the customary «Super Burrito’s x2 Carne Asada» style. Had to BEG for jalapenos and salsa to accompany them and so continues the worst burrito to date I’ve ever choked down…
The burrito was anything but «super» in size and contained ZERO seasoned nor flavored hunks of meat that I still cannot identify as far as its origin. Meat actually is an understatement: Grissle from the bowels of HELL is more like it. By the time we were done the plate was ¹⁄₃ full of spit out grissle. There isn’t enough salsa, salt and condiments available in the free world to smother this piece of turd in order to mask the aSS flavored food… just sayin… NO flavor whatsover. No Joke, like eating a fart sandwich only worse. The man aka: my man, even said it was horrible and that it wasn’t like this before OR his taste buds had changed… Likely story lol ;)
Now lets talk pricing. We paid nearly $ 20 for two of the worst burritos and ONE soda so needles to say one can’t help but feel ‘hosed’ after a dining experience like this.
And lastly, I’m a white girl, well Portuguese to be more accurate but can cook like a real pro, and even I could have made more authentic freshly prepared Mexican food than the peeps who served up this crap.
Save your money and hit up Cutija; you won’t be sorry ;)

Oh my holy Jesus and Mary. This is the best damn Mexican food ever. Simple, good, authentic. Not for people who like Americanized Mexican food covered in yellow cheese. 5 stars all around. Cheap, full of flavor, and they also have beer. Win!

You dont come to Los Banos and expect to find great service and delicious authentic Mexican food, but this place had both! Giving it a 4.5 star for being an super friendly awesome Mexican joint with super yummy tacos and etc!
We had:
Carne Asada quesadilla: crispy outside with tender Asada meat and cheese on the inside. Sprinkled with a generous portion of of lettuce, salsa, and sour cream on top.
Asada tacos: perfectly tender meat with two types of salsas and cilantro/​onion mix
Tongue tacos: super soft and moist (a new way to describe tongue, I guess) pieces of tongue just melt in your mouth! For $ 1.30 each, you cannot go wrong!
Manudo: despite readying the not so great reviews on Unilocal I still decided to give it a try. The soup was on the thick side and the pieces were chopped small, a little overbooked in my opinion. The broth wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t Omg either. Thought I was missing something but I couldn’t figure out what… (wasn’t worth my $ 7)
Overall a great tacos with very well seasoned and cooked meat at an affordable price.
Next time I’m in town, I’ll try a tongue borrito!
You should definitely come here if Ur on the 5 by 152 or 33 and just want to take a quick break and have have some real good authentic Mexican fare :)

Los Banos is not usually a name that would bring visions of good food. I’ve driven by this city many time over the decades, this time I just happened to be hungry and on Unilocal at the same time as we were approaching the city limits off Hwy 5 and bam a number of restaurant popped up on Unilocal.Los Banos is not far off the freeway and looked like it had a number of real restaurants — not just truck stops. So we thought why not?
We placed an order for a whole lotta food, from tacos to sopes to menudo to horchata; the price was cheap and we were hungry. The food came in no time. The problem was they gave it to the wrong folks. I was able to intercept my bowl of menudo because the mom at the other table had this «WTH, I didn’t order this» look on her face. However my tacos were not so lucky. They had started chomping down on my lengua tacos — «yes, lady those are my lengua taco! Hey, you guys don’t look so good. Never had tongue before?» Haha Haha! It was all I could do from busting a gut all the way back to my table. I looked over to one of the workers and I swear she mouthed the work «gringo»! Ok maybe not.
That was the highlight of that road trip. It certainly wasn’t the food. Everything was just ok. My menudo had plenty of «stuff» but it lack any real flavor and the soup was just too thick.
Next time? I am going to try different place in the fair town of Los Banos
