Current Adventures Kayak School & Trips

Had a great beginning kayaking class yesterday with Dan and Kim. Best day out on the water! They are very thorough in their instruction, but find a way to make it fun! And they are very good at adapting their teaching to each individual, as we all learn in a slightly different way.
I cannot say enough good about this class. My husband and I are looking forward to taking the more advanced class next.
Colleen is most helpful and patient on the phone and her emails. Thanks to the three of you for a great day and a new hobby!

Second season with current adventures. I’ve read the reviews and thought about things and this is what I’ve come up with. If you want to try kayaking, this is a great place to start as I’m sure others are also. If you want to try kayaking and LEARN how to kayak, this is the only place to go in the area.
The few negative reviews are from sources that want a quick approach toward expected frustration.
I wanted to have fun and learn a lifelong skill. I just got finished with a river roll class with Dan at the end of my second season, and was exclaiming the whole way down «That’s just fun!!»
You will want the individualized attention that will come from this company (other companies, I’ve counted with a 2 to 12 or so ratio… on one river day, I helped with one of their capsized students and instructor while the other instructor came over, leaving the rest of the class to figure out what to do) .
You will want a company that will give you energy, excitement, skills, and the comradery to keep going for seasons to come.

Last year I was looking for school to teach me the fundamentals of whitewater kayaking. CA was recommended by a local kayak shop. I signed up for CAs RK1-​RK3 series. What an awesome experience! Kim who typically teaches the RK1 class for beginners was excellent. Funny, but direct leading you to develop confidence quickly. He is an excellent instructor. I completed RK2−3 with Jason, who is another excellent instructor. By completing the RK1−3 series I had the skills to make the C-​G run (Level II water) with confidence. CA will be the only school I will use for instruction based on my outstanding experience with them. Now to the zen master of the roll, Dan. Being an older and sumo size paddler, I really thought rolling may be beyond physics. Dan laughed and within 1^st lesson I was rolling with assistance, 2^nd lesson beginning to roll independently. I have a few other private lessons with Dan to hone my technique and confidence. At the end, of my first season, I completed my first Gorge run (level 3 water) and even rolled up by myself in Satan’s. I really cannot say enough about Dan and his staff. Fantastic personalized and friendly service. Thanks Dan, Jason, Kim, Denis, GiGi, Dillon and Misty for for your help, advice, instruction and service.

Dan is thee Master of teaching the eskimo roll! He really broke it down for me and has more of Zen approach to rolling than what I had learned from others.
He took the time to listen to my previous problems with my roll, which I felt stemmed from years of doing kick turns doing laps in a swimming pool. Amazing in his 20 years, he had not heard this until this last week from a former competitive swimmer. Wow, see I am not blaming something on nothing!
With a few exercises, and by the time I rolled, I nailed every one! Of course the first few times I had that «Oh crap» feeling when I was upside down. This disappeared after a few successful rolls!
All I can say is Dan is absolutely amazing!

I’d give them a 0 rating if I could. My husband and I rented kayaks from them for Eppies. They were extremely unhelpful when giving us the kayak before the race and didn’t have time to show us the details of our individual kayaks. The entire race I was unable to steer the kayak straight — my husband had the same problem. When we returned the kayaks, we informed the lady there (i believe her name was Colleen — who is one of the owners) of the problem, and she said it was our fault that we hadn’t come to a practice session the week before to go ove the kayak. Hmmm — well, we live in Los Angeles which is 6 hours away and for obvious reasons couldn’t come to a practice session! She didn’t seem to mind that we couldn’t attend a session when she took our money for the rental, knowing very well we were not coming to a practice session. When I said I was going to call the establishment, her response was, «Go for it — I’m the owner.». Wow, that is surely not a way to treat customers who just spent $ 300 to rent 2 kayaks for 1 hour. If you have ANY other option for kayak rentals, Especially for Eppies, do NOT give yourself the headache of going with Current Adventures. You will definitely regret it.

First rate operation with a friendly family feel. Dan is absolutely and without a doubt «the man». Excellent locally run business.

OMG! I LOVE THESE GUYS! They yell at you, tell you what to do, make you laugh… and if you listen and are lucky you might get through San Juan Rapids!
Ok, but in all seriousness… The lady I talked to on the phone was awesome and very informative, Dan was awesome and funny, Thanks Paul for holding our keys and wallets! AND the rest of the guys help you too (I just don’t remember their names but they were all so awesome)… literally they will stay with you and help you down the river, even let you follow them down their ‘line’. I felt safe. And I made it down the river!
This was the training for Eppies. I did 2 halfs and 2 full courses and I feel that it was the perfect amount of practice runs and now I am sooooo ready for Eppies. I will be doing the iron person and kicking butt now!
I totally recomend Current Adventures! Props to Dan, the lady on the phone, Paul, surfer kid, funny beard guy, hyper funny beard guy, quiet kid, and the 2 kick a$$ ladies that helped out on the last couple days.

It is nice to deal with a small business that cares about the product the put out. From phone service to the instructors and equiptment. Everything they did was first rate. I will be back.
