I had the guys at Hound Dog press create my letterpress business cards. I knew about them because they had printed my sister’s wedding invitations a couple years back. I had been kind of obsessing over these cards for a long time and had a good idea of what i wanted. If you want a business card that makes a strong statement and gets you noticed, letterpress is most definitely the way to go. There’s really no match for the look and feel of these cards, I love them. Also, this print shop is just rad. Between the antique printing presses and some of their amazing work displayed throughout, their space has such a creativity-inspiring aesthetic. These guys are super talented artists, and it’s clear they’re passionate about and take pride in their work.

As print designer, I’ve worked with many printers. I chose Hound Dog for my wedding invitations and they did a beautiful job. The color and the quality was perfect, and they even ordered specialty paper for me. The turn around time was excellent as well. All around it was a wonderful experience.

You get what you pay for. In this case, excellent service, knowledgeable staff, friendly personalities, a little bit of history, and a really unique one-of-a-kind product. These guys carve their own molds! They custom make invitations! I saw one of the posters they did for Louisville Brewfest last year — I think it was five runs through the press(which means 5 different colors). Johannes Gutenberg just did a little jig in his grave over this one. Every single thing they produce is beautiful. They can do it all too — wedding invites, birthday cards, posters, birth announcements, etc… Check out some of their beautiful work here: One of two owners, Nick, is the nicest guy too. He spent a good 15 minutes giving the history and the background of where Hound Dog Press started and what type of services they offer. If you find yourself this far down Market, walk in, take a look around — he doesn’t mind! Schedule a classroom visit if you’re a teacher(they do tours!) The one thing I forgot to ask — where did the name Hound Dog Press come from! If anyone finds out, let me know! Best part of this company is that most of their advertising is done by word of mouth, so spread the word!
