Let me preface by saying I generally do NOT go to this Kroger location, as I grew up and went to grade school in the area. I literally cannot go in here without seeing at least one person I know. So… yeah. However, while it’s not the best grocery store or location ever, it is large and offers many things I can’t find at the Kroger I frequent most(at Central Station). There is a much larger produce section, a salad bar, larger bakery and deli, and a larger selection of everything in general. They are actually renovating some as we speak(though I feel like that happens every couple years, or maybe not… again, I don’t go to this location too often anymore), so hopefully that will bring more improvements. The parking lot is a little tricky, but there is ample space. In recent years, a gas station has also been added. Again, it’s not the best grocery store, but comparatively, it’s a pretty good location. Happy shopping!

This is the Kroger I knew and loved until I finally spread my wings and flew out of the nest. So many nights as a teenager unable to do anything but wander around here for hours with my friends were spent here. I had some milestones here, too, including: — First underage drunken visit to a public establishment at an unreasonable hour. — First time successfully freaking out the cashier with my purchases(purely by accident. My purchase included cat litter, chicken breasts, condoms and lube, all intended for very separate uses). — First time being told off by the sweet looking old granny cashier for ‘partying too hard’ after I rolled in on a Sunday at 7am looking like death(it was sweet she was worried, but out of context. My ‘partying too hard’ consisted of a 3-day straight gaming marathon with my friends). — First time my grandmother had been hit on in public by a rather smartly dressed gentlemen(followed by myself and my best-friend’s unsuccessful attempt at getting his number for my grandma). — First time discovering Starbucks sucks. A lot. — First discovery I am the undead(every time I come here and use the heart-rate monitor/blood pressure machine it tells me I am dead. Every. damn. time.). — First time stealing a candy bar(sorry!) — First time experiencing an ‘organic, pretentious yuppie-fufu’ aisle and the realization I am a pretentious twat like the rest of those yuppies. Yes. This Kroger truly holds a special place in my heart. Even though Bardstown Rd Kroger has a better selection and is closer, I still feel a sense of ‘coming home’ every time I visit. Its like taking a trip to Grandma’s, except instead of free food you have to pay.

This is my hometown Kroger & I always buy groceries here. I am a coupon fanatic and they always put up with my ridiculousness at the register.(coupons double up to 50 cents!.) I also regularly receive the ‘Best Customer’ coupon mailer and they are tailored to what I buy. It’s nice to get some free butter every couple of months for consistently shopping here! They just expanded the store to carry kitchen gadgets and small appliances and have a pretty good ethnic food section. This is also a great store to get your organic foods at a discount. Let’s face it — it’s in the heart of the South end and most people don’t care if their food is loaded with unhealthy goodness. So, most of the organic perishables end up getting deeply discounted. I could always go to the mega-Kroger on Dixie, but I like that I’m so familiar with this Kroger. I can organize my coupons by aisle!

I drive by this Kroger twice a day, six days a week. It’s pretty much guaranteed I’ll stop to pick up some things — frequently. I usually have no trouble finding what I’m looking for, but I’ve found that the prices on some of my faves, old fashioned oats and ground turkey for instance, are a bit higher than Wal-Mart(which is about a mile away). I prefer Kroger because I can get in, get what I need, and get out. No thirty minute waits at the cashier line. I also like this Kroger because of the friendly employees. My boyfriend has lived in the neighborhood since he was an undergrad in college, and several of the people who work there know him by name. If they’re working, they’re always up for a conversation. Love the mom and pop feel, despite the fact that it’s a pretty big store.

It’s one of the larger Kroger stores in Louisville; and it’s one of the older Kroger stores in Louisville. I get groceries here more than anywhere else because… * I dislike Walmart. * This location is open 24 hours. * This location is in an area I pass through often. * The good size of the store makes for a bigger selection. I mentioned that this store is older. The interior is timeless, I suppose… basic décor that could pass for any given year, but I feel it really needs an update. The exterior definitely needs an update. It looks like a strip mall right out of 1978. Honestly, new colors and a few architectural details may be enough to make it look all new. The parking lot has a few sewer grates that seem extremely low compared to the rest of the parking lot and it can give your vehicle’s shocks a good test. Overall, I do like this store, but as is, if a Super Target, Trader Joe’s, or Whole Foods Market opened in my neighborhood, I may no longer be a regular.
